Gee, uh, nuetral or undecided? I don't know...from where I'm sitting, I didn't think the game went down too well. Didn't really get anyone excited, didn't sell too many copies. Maybe, Nintendo, you'd be better off leaving the beating of this dead horse and just shift the dev team onto something like Wii Clean.

Why do I feel a sequel would add things that DLC could probably accomplish (new chracters, new maps, same visuals, etc..). Anyway, this is a bit of a silly survey question
Would not purchase it if the "sequal" had an identical online component to Brawl.
@LittleBigPlaneteer: Agreed.
Wow...seriously?
I'd buy it only if it had Banjo or Chrono in it.
I've already played 3 iterations of the same game, why play more. Lets hope Smash doesn't become the next Dynasty Warriors.
I don't know, I think it's a legitimate question. I know that they went into this Smash Bros. incarnation as if it were going to be "the last one," and packing in everything from every possible franchise they could possibly think of. So it's reasonable (to a certain degree) to ask if people think, more or less, if it can be improved on. After all, this isn't a linear plot driven game - people buy it for "upgrades" as opposed to a continuation of the same.
i think they should pull off a Soul Caliber 4 and add characters that could never be...
Megaman.
Vader.
Kratos.
Bomberman.
the Nesquick and Twix Rabbits.
ect.
Another Mario game... are you serious? HELL YEAH I'D BUY IT, IT'S MARIO!!
I would definately buy it if it had Megaman, better online, and MORE MUSIC.
And maybe playable Shigeru Miyamoto.
It seems like they would be smart to wait 4 or 5 years and just make the next version for the Super Wii.
What the heck? Fast selling Nintendo game in North America much?
Why would you need 2, 3, 5, and 6? Wait... Why are 1 and 4 there too?
@TheCleaningGuy: Uh, Reggie could totally kick his ass.
(and take his name)
Can we get a Melee sequel instead?
@TheCleaningGuy: Agreed. Why did they cut The Ballad of The Windfish? Why?
[youtube.com]
Bitter much?
@Spartan1308:
Which is another way of saying Gamecube V1.000000002
Oh, and I thought Brawl was terrible. TERRIBLE. No, I do not have it in mind to buy a sequel supposing it would be just a rehash of the same broken boring game mechanics.
I'm really sorry, but I simply don't get why everyone likes Smash Bros. I mean, it's good, but why aren't other fighting games as popular? Perhaps that's the question.
Wait.... Smash did poorly and/or sucked? When did I wake up in crazy land? Did I miss something?
I used to root for Nintendo night and day, but they are seriously getting annoying.
@Erwin: I don't know, maybe they had to make room for two f***ing versions of each Warioware song with vocals.
Anyway, Ballad of the Windfish was actually the first song that I got emotionally attatched to.
Not the first videogame song, but the first song. (I was about 8 at the time)
Ahh, memories.
@Clstirens: *face palm. I think I missed the sarcasm there....
@Clstirens: You missed the sarcasm.
Unless your post was sarcasm, in which case well played.
@Scipher: I guess because it has Nintendo characters in it. And IMO, Nintendo have the biggest fanbase in the whole world! I mean, who doesn't like Mario, DK, and Link?!
So I'm guessing its more on the fanbase rather than the actual gameplay of Brawl. Just my opinion though. I'm also one of those people who doesn't appreciate Brawl's gameplay THAT much.
@Scipher: It's more popular than other fighting games because more people like it and it appeals to a broader audience. Also, anyone who's an adult now grew up playing all these Nintendo games and we all nerdgasm at the thought of pitting all these characters against each other.
And no, that will never, ever get old.
@Dunny0: Do I wish I had the devilish cunning of a young bond to pull THAT off...
The biggest draw for Brawl is the chracters. People love the huge amount of popular characters in the game. Even if Gameplay isn't mindblowing, the authentic characterizations will get people of all ages to play it.
Take away all the famous chacracters, and put a bunch of lesser known characters in it, and it won't sell. Just look at "Sega Tennis" vs "Mario Tennis"
@The-Blur: i've played 11 versions of the same final fantasy, i better not buy any more.
Assuming a reasonable price, how likely are you to purchase a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy?
Assuming a reasonable price, how likely are you to purchase a sequel to Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess?
Assuming a reasonable price, how likely are you to purchase a sequel to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption?
I could go on...
@TheCleaningGuy: jesus man, 258 songs not enough for you?
yeah me neither. MORE FUCKING MUSIC!
@Scipher: 1. Recognizable fighters, Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, etc 2. Simplfied control scheme. Only two buttons to attack. 3. Marketing/Hype. All gaming sites covered it.
Compare this to a game like Virtua Fighter and Guilty Gear. Who outside of the hardcore VF fans who will recognize fighters such as Akira, Shun Di, Brad Burns? Fighting games are too complicated for the casual fan to pick up and play these days. Try learning all of GGXX's game mechanic's as opposed to Smash Bros. Shorthop Laser vs. Impossible Dust and Jump Install? Lastly, Fighters don't get as much coverage as say GTA and Halo.
I personally believe SFIV will be the next fighter to perform well. Bringing back the original 8 World Warriors satisfies criteria #1. Removing gimmicks such as CCs, VCs, RCs, Parrying and replacing it with easy to perform Saving Attacks satisfies criteria #2. And you better believe Ono is hyping IV up with all the interviews he's giving plus the amount of press sites such as Kotaku give it.
Hope that answers your question.
This survey is flawed; I see no "Fuck Yeah!" option.
Cause I totally would. Get started on it Nintendo. Chop chop.
I figure if they start now, they can have it ready by 2010, maybe 2011. And trust me, I can wait, Brawl's still got plenty of kick in it.
@shikaningen: That's not where I was going. I really do hope that the next Nintendo console takes a leap forward in power instead of a small step like they did this gen. It should be fairly cheap by then to at least give us a decent amount of onboard storage and HD graphics. I don't think calling the Wii an updated GC is anymore fair than calling the 360 and updated Xbox or the PS3 and updated PS2. Each of the console makers changed various aspects. They're all just updates on the previous gen systems so I don't think the Wii specifically should be attacked for what they chose to change. Wii Sports is a lot of fun. Super Mario Galaxy is great along w/Trauma Center. They have other options to explore that would really utilize the Wii in different ways that would not have been possible w/GC. I'd love to see a Kirby Canvas Curse sequel on the Wii for instance. I just think a game like SSB is something that only really needs to be updated once per generation if done right. Madden should probably be like that too w/changes to teams and stadiums handled through a yearly DLC update.
@TheCleaningGuy:
Blasphemy! If you ever talk smack about Ashley ever again!!!!!!!!!11one! (playing, =3)
I agree with JohnnytheFuture about the online, though. Playing with people on line isn't very fun.
Not buying a sequel. SSE was fun as far as the overall idea and the cutscenes...the gameplay and the HORRIBLE maze killed it though. I enjoy the Smash series more as a museum and less as a fighter.
Also, it's about time Nintendo started adding some voice work to their game.
Also, it's about time Nintendo got some new characters/IPs.
ALSO, WHERE IS MY NEW PIKMIN GAME?!
@Anemone: hit the nail on the head. brawl is good and all but melee is miles better. just take melee, throw in new characters, rebalance. this gives the super ultimate best game ever due to balance that melee didn't have.
Woudl I purchase a sequal? no, I wont even purchase brawl since I hated melee so much. Maybe if they added real online, upped the appearance, and added some more interesting characters Id think about it.(I think the star wars characters would of been a better fit for ssb type gameplay than they are for soul caliber) Maybe add some complexity to the gameplay.(which ofcourse would likely ruin it for the 8billion other people in the world who really enjoy the game)
That's the same standard survey Nintendo emails out to people who register any of their games at nintendo.com. It's full of questions liks "Do you like this game?" and "Would you buy a sequel?"
From what I can see, it doesn't do anything. I got one after registering EBA, and sadly, my one "Definitly purchase a sequel" didn't make up for the thousands of people who didn't buy it, either because they are afraid of Avril Lavigne or because they think pirating DS games makes them cool.
@Klaymen:
Serious? Lots of people hate the maze but that was the only part of SSE that I thought was really fun. It was kinda like castlevania, I felt. Except less whipping and more swording. Then again, the newer castlevanias have a lot less whipping.
Whatever happened to the belmonts anyway?
I know! They can put bad ass characters like Solid Snake for the sequa...wait
They need to add new mechanics to the game. As it stands, Brawl is actually worst than melee in terms of gameplay. Its slower and the only new mechanic, Final Smash, can't be used in 1v1s or team battles because for most characters its 1hit KO.
If I had played Subspace on my own, I doubt I would have enjoyed it.
Now playing with my girlfriend (who loved it by the way, but not the rest of the game), contained jollity
As for a sequel, I've yet to be disapointed by the first three, so of I would buy another one.
Aye I would like better online, even if it's just the function to change game styles in random.
Oh and Bonk, so I can have a 16-bit war with him, Sonic, and Mario.
@TheCleaningGuy: Same here. So sad, so pretty...
@Channing: I hated it until I realized there were save rooms. Then it was quite fun, if long.
Yea, sure Nintendo, I'll "Definitely purchase a sequel" to Smash Bros. Brawl if you fix Nintendo Wifi!
Who am I kidding? I'll probably buy it anyway.
@Channing:
Yes I'm serious. It wouldn't have been so bad if the maze didn't consist of all the levels YOU JUST GOT DONE PLAYING. lol.
Also, the fact that Nintendo refuses to let you transfer your save data for Brawl was a headache and a half. I spent a long chunk of time going through SSE on co-op, only to realize Nintendo forced me to go through it again solo. GRRRR...
@Spartan1308: of course, the problem i have is that melee and brawl were both released relatively earlky in the console's lifetimes, so the missed out on a bunch of stuff that the could have put in if it were released later, heck even brawl does this, if you notice there's not a whit of Mario galaxy content in it. if the are going to be once per generation, i'd like to see them more towards the middle of a consoles lifetime, once all of the major franchises have an update. or DLC. I would pay ridicoulous amounts of cash moneys to play as tails, knuckles, shadow, louie, paula, james mccloud (human or fox version), any freaking advance wars representative, heck even a battalion wars representative, birdo, sothe, Goku, Vegeta, Chiaotzu, a chao, my mii (penisfaceman), leon kennedy, a mario/luigi with his galaxy flight suit, a goron or a zora (perhaps a mask changing MM link), balloon fight man, any star wars character (yes any) and so on...
all this because the fighting system in brawl is an excellent way to equalize the massive power of some characters and express their uniqueness without unbalancing them. knuckles could have glide, tails could have pits flying ability, all of these things are already worked into the game.
Give the sequel a few years, in my opinion. They've essentially tapped the good ole Nintendo character well dry, and even grabbed a couple really notable faces from outside their own stable. Sure, there are a few really obscure characters out there and a lot of third party characters to draw on, but most people are only interested in the truly iconic characters (Link, Mario, Samus, etc).
If Nintendo decides to start building new character driven franchises we can talk about a sequel. However, I highly doubt they will, because Nintendo only wants to have one franchise in each genre. With platformer, adventure, shooter, racer, etc already covered, I can't think of any major genre that Nintendo can branch into.
Also, isn't this just one of the boilerplate questions that you get from Nintendo when you register software?
@Erwin:
Yeah, I had to keep regen'ing my Marth because I was no good with anyone else.
After a few years, I'll LOVE to play a new Brawl game. Maybe the sequels have it's fair share of similarities, but I get a wave of enthusiasm I rarely experience in other games unlocking characters, levels, etc. with such fun characters
Plus they did a good job at mixing things up with Brawl to make it unique. I'm confident they'll do the same in the next version as well.
Online functions, however....well, that may be still up in the air.
