The Official Playstation blog just announced that the the DUALSHOCK 3 rumble controllers have started shipping to stores and should be on sale by next week, a week earlier than the original street date.
The DS3 includes pressure sensors that rumble with each action and the SIXAXIS motion controls. The asking price if a whopping $55. The post included a "complete" list of titles that will support the DS3 at launch, a list that is much shorter than the one released at TGS, though that list included titles that still haven't hit stores and this one doesn't. All new releases that support rumble will now have a DS3 compatible icon on them, according to the blog. Playstation is also a page on the official Playstation website dedicated to games with force feedback support.
Hit the jump for the list of available games that support the new controller, titles with asterisks will require a patch to use rumble. For those title the patch will automagically download to your console when you start it up.

Last generation tech finally hits the PS3!!!!
I've only got 3 controllers currently so I'll be picking up at least 1 of these
Thank jebus, I gotta trade in my old sixaxis ones now.
Umm, and how badly does this kill the battery?
I'm getting one. My grandmother still gives me birthday money, so it will be my third controller, but the one I'll always use.
Please, please, PLEASE tell me these ones don't conk out as often as their non-rumbling brethern. I'll buy two right out of the gate. Witz, didn't you mention something about that?
Hmm looks like im Going to have another go at DMC4.
Will there be a patch for PS2 games later on as well it seems to be missing from the list.
Also why is CoD4 missing from this list if any game needs rumble its that one.
Ebuyer were selling Jap imports in white and black for £35 sterling ages ago.
Arriving in SCEE-land October 2010
@darknessgp:
It's the exact same in terms of battery. Also, the reason Sony didn't release rumble packs in the beginning is because for the first Playstation they hired a third-party to create them and they've been holding onto the patent ever since then. They finally gave in and paid the $150 million to implement them.
better late than never.
@darknessgp: it doesn't seem too bad, although i wondered that myself and have been in the habit of charging my control when playing guitar hero/watching a film.
to europeans, i reccomend ebay if you don't mind waiting a week or so, my housemate and myself got one each for £25.
no CoD4?? Brutal...
I dont know why people complain about the battery life. I charge my 360 controllers once a mont at most.
@Modus_Operandi: Ah,you bet me to it... its such an easy joke, really... It's criminal not to do it. And Sony deserves it.
@GUNDAM-RX-78-2: @Hyperlite: Is it possible that the game was already designed with rumble ready to go as they knew at that point that the DualShock would officially be returning?
Only one of my games is on that list. RPG's fo' eva' (they aren't on the list).
i ono about you guys but all the titles i have that support rumble, have for months now. i bought one on launch day and have been using it since
its awesome btw and def worth it
@Hyperlite: YEah. Would be sweet to have it rumble when the airstrike hits ya! Or "Grenada!"
@GUNDAM-RX-78-2: i seem to remember PS2 games worked from the word go, like if you had a 3rd party control or dualshock>USB adapter. i'm currently playing dragon quest 8 and that works.
I have one of those. Imported it from Japan for £45 w/ shipping. I was pleasantly surprised that Ubisoft shows some PS3 love and included support in new titles like Vegas2.
Yay, Sony overcomes technical boundaries to deliver a revolutionary experience!
OK, I know that was dangerously close to trolling, bt really, this should have been available from the get-go.
@SigmundTheSeaMonster: i just noticed your pic and thought it was old greg until i checked your profile.
what you doing in mah waters?
I thought consumers did not want rumble.
Yikes, at least these controllers come with a rechargeable battery. The cost of a PS3 controller Vs. 360 isn't as quiiite as one-sided now.
I'm almost considering trading in my 4 Sixaxis controllers...
HMV Japan export to the UK for about £35 inc P&P and normally take about a week.
CEX will give you £22 trade in for an old sixaxis at the moment. Not a bad little deal.
$55? Jeez.
Again, I just don't give a shit about rumble.
It's about time. The only thing is, I've gotten used to ps3 without rumble. They should have taken care of this at launch, but they let their pride get in the way. I've spent enough on the ps3, I'm not shelling out for a rumble feature. I'll buy a used one in a few months.
I don't see why people care about their controller rumbling. It was a neat novelty back in the N64 days, but honestly I don't even notice it anymore and when I do I wish I didn't.
I have one but it has a gimped sixaxis, so Ill probaby trade in one of my three remaining sixaxis controllers for some cash, then pick up a ds3 when MGS4 hits stores June 12th
Finally, I need to get one soon. I been holding out on getting a PS3 controller till these came out.
I wonder if Ninja Gaiden Sigma will get some love with the rumble in the near future. Other then that, if PS2 games work out the box then that means God of War II and Final Fantasy XII is going to get some love on my PS3.
@DranzerKire:
What have you been playing with then? lol
$55 roughly equals £25. Now if you consider our normal SIXAXIS costs £35, $55 doesn't seem so bad.
I've had my DS3 for a couple of weeks now, it's pretty awesome. Definitely changes the gaming experience. Warhawk & DMC4 is definitely cool. Think Jet Boosts in the warhawks, with rumble, or instant revving with rumble. Very worth it!
@Hauler: I don't necessarily notice it as I'm playing, but I definitely notice when it's not happening, so it really bugs me to not have rumble. Also, I prefer having a Jump Pack in my Dreamcast controllers, as the controller feels too light without one.
Anyway, I really hope that the price of controllers going up with each new generation isn't gonna be some sort of trend. Let's see...
PlayStation 3: $54.99 (if you want rumble)
Wii: $39.99 + $19.99
Xbox 360: $49.99 (if you want wireless)
You should never have to decide between buying a new controller and buying a new game. Honestly, the price of a controller should never be anywhere close to the price of a game, unless the controller really justifies the price (and none of the ones mentioned justify the respective price).
Dropping rumble was the only thing I liked about the PS3. I wish I could get Xbox controllers without it, it annoys the piss out of me. Like when I put the controller down on the table for a cutscene and then fucking rumble kicks in and the noise from the vibration drowns out the audio from the game. Or, when the game doesn't send a kill signal before loading a level or whatever and the damn thing won't stop and I have to pop out the battery.
I really don't see the appeal. Wow my controller shakes~
PS3 fans seem more excited about getting new controllers than actual games...
Can't wait to trade in all four of my Sixaxis controllers at Gamestop to get enough store credit to buy one DualShock 3 controller. Rad...
No CoD4? PS3 owners get the map pack late AND no rumble? WTF Mate?
@KirbyMorph: Maybe because the topic of this thread is the controllers and not the games?
@wallapuctus: You can turn it off in the options somewhere of the 360 system as far as I can remember.
@KirbyMorph: trolls seem more interested in bashing other consoles than actually playing games.
PSOne emulation works, but no mention of PS2?
What gives? I'm hoping it still works.
And like everyone I gotta wonder how much this will kill the battery. Maybe I should grab another non-rumble one while they exist.
@Candlejack: if you turn it off, what's the point of even wasting money for rumble?
Haha...u suckas...I've been rumbling for a while now. I manage to pick one up while I was in the Philippines. Works great with warhawk...Not so impress with motorstorm.
I remember when I first experienced the rumble controller while playing FFVII on PS1. It was amazing! Now, I'm used to my Wii controller pointing at the screen, sensing my movements, vibrating, AND adding fabulous sound effects from time to time. I haven't decided whether I'm spending the money for a rumble PS3 controller yet.
There seem to be no difference in battery life. Maybe because my ds3 is newer than 6axis. When you boost in a warhawk it rumbles...very realistic.
I'll wait till Logitech updates their cordless precision with rumble. Best controller I've had for the ps2.
I already got two white ones imported from Japan and they are best current gen controllers to have.
BTW: Does me wanting rumble make me a last-gen-retrogamer?
Why would you trade in all your sixaxis controllers for DS3? Seems like a waste of money. Just trade in 1, and make your friends use the old sixaxis controllers. (I imported a DS3 and bought 2 sixaxis for $20 each, I have no plans on replacing them unless they break)
