RE: April
As you know, yesterday my wife entered the hospital. Not exactly a fun or funny April Fool's Day. Her morning sickness has been pretty bad recently — with her unable to get out of bed or feed herself. So, we decided to get her in before things got, that's right, worse. Today, she seemed better, but had a really rough morning. She's on an IV all the time, as she's dehydrated still. I talked with her doctor, this afternoon. He doesn't wear socks and smells kinda funny, but he delivered Mini Bash, he's a sharp guy, and so it was somewhat comforting to see him again.
Earlier in the week, a friend of ours came over. She brought a Japanese amulet that she got at a shrine. It's supposed to protect the baby and ensure a healthy birth. Our friend as well is pregnant. Was, rather. She and her husband had been trying, literally, for years to have another kid. They finally conceived, but the fetus didn't make it unfortunately. She seemed in good spirits while she told us this, giving my wife the amulet. "For a healthy baby," she said. And left.
Oh! I also ate day old fish today. Didn't get sick. :/

Hope everything'll be all right. When is the baby due?
I hope the Mrs gets well soon! Also day old fish is alright...
I hope everything goes well, Bash.
All this talk about troubled pregnancy has me worried. I'd die out of stress if something like this happens with me.
With all the willpower of the Kotaku following, there is no doubt she's going to be fine! You're being proactive about everything and your doctor is familiar with her, so I believe it'll all turn out well! :) When things get stressful, remember that people care. It's a very small thing, but it can make a big difference!
Oh, and fish can usually last a day without killing you :)
Best of luck to the lot of you. In pregnancy, you learn the unexpected is normal. My wife had a few rough spots and it seems the 'hook-up to IV" is the first step in every case, so don't be worried about that.
Oh and the amulet, crush it for it is clearly a nix.
I shall be praying for Mrs. Ashcraft.
Hope everyone is okay. Ask for whatever the Japanese version of Diclectin (doxylamine succinate/pyridoxine hydrochloride) is. Great stuff as I have said before. I'm sure there is some Japanese powder medicine form.
<-going to keep your family in my prayers.
Best wishes on her quick recovery. I remember you writing about her having extreme morning sickness during her first pregnancy. Is there a medical reason why she is getting so sick? I wonder if a specialist would be able to help.
I'm sure everything will be fine.
But what are you gonna call the new addition?
Micro Bash? Mini Bash Lite? What??
Im quite sure all the Kotakuites will be praying for a great result dude. That means your gona have the powers of all gods there, kool isnt it. :)
Hope Mrs Bash picks up and everything goes a-ok.
Sorry to hear about your wife. Hopefully this amulet you were given will do the trick and isn't a clever ploy to steal your family's souls and bind them to slavery in the netherworld. It happened to my neighbor's friend and wasn't a good scene.
rough stuff Ashcraft, I'm sure everyhing is gong to be fine. How's Mini-Bash handeling all of this? Best of luck to you and the family!
God bless your family.
I'll be praying for all of you as well.
Mrs. Bash, Mini Bash and soon-to-be Kidcraft. What a crew in tow.
Hang in there, Bash. Hope your wife feels better soon.
I hope that everything is fine with you, your wife and your unborn child (thought id call it unborn child instead of fetus, cause it mightve been a bit weeeird seeing as i dont know you)
Doesn't wear socks and smells kind of funny...? really now. Interesting...
Well wishes to your wife and family. She has a lot of people around the world pulling for her.
^_^
@kazooie: HEHE iBash Nano
that smell is the scent of feet Mr. Bash.
the scent of a true "doctor".
Things aside. I hope your wife feels better soon.
Good vibes, Bashcraft family.

Forgot the major fish markets closing every other Wednesday, huh?
@Zenax: Theres a history teacher at my high school who doesn't wear socks. Just sandals. And this is during winter too.
Maybe it's not so uncommon for sensei's in Japan to do this.
Or maybe they're just weird.
Sorry to hear that.
I might have missed a comment in an earlier thread, but are you still thinking of sending MiniBash to your parents for a month? I mean you could likely use the break but the logistics probably got a lot more difficult and Minibash is likely still a little young to fly so far by himself I'd guess.
@jayntampa: i concur you've got the Kotaku-ites prayers behind you, Bash. Everything will work out.
Hope your wife get better soon!
Oh man, I do hope everything turns out ok my friend! You have my best wishes!
I wish your wife and baby good health too.
Hmm...I'm always told that the 2nd pregnancy should be easier since the woman's body has already made the major changes the first time around.
So hopefully, this latest incident will be the last problem, and that the rest of the pregnancy will indeed go well. =)
Well wishes from me to your family, Bashcraft.
Best wishes to Mrs. Bash! And take care of yourself, too - single parenthood is hard, even if it's temporary.
I imagine if its a girl she will be the Bashette.
Doesn't wear socks? What he wears those plastic slippers, like on the beach, all the time?
Hope the Missus gets well soon.
@DugDawg: IANAD (I Am Not A Doctor), but it sounds like that may be the case. This has me worried now.
I hope she gets well soon, Bash.
Today only sucks so tomorrow can be better. :\ Hope everything turns out well for you!
I hope Mrs. Bash gets well soon. Hang in there bud.
If Brian #1 can eat poison, I'm sure you'll be fine with day old fish ;D
On topic, hope Mrs. Bash makes it out of the hospital soon.
Oh dear, please tell Mrs. Bash that we are thinking of her and that the Kotakuka(is that right? should it be Kotakuites?) hope she is feeling much better soon.
Nausea and vomiting is a horrible thing to suffer from. I get it all the time and find that one of the best things is ginger tea, or if Mrs. Bash has a sweet tooth ginger-nut biscuits.
Glad she's getting some help. Hope she gets well soon :D
"Oh! I also ate day old fish today. Didn't get sick. :/"
Also, for lunch today, I ate... POISON!
Sorry to hear it's so difficult. I really hope everything works out, and as someone earlier said, with the combined goodwill of Kotaku behind you, not only will it be okay but the baby will probably be some sort of superchild.
I'll keep your family in my thoughts. We are expecting (Sep 5th) and my wife has been sick on and off but not to the point of needing an IV. She sleeps so much now though. She is always exausted (although she is an accountant and tax season/long hours help none).
The sickness part of my wife being pregnant sometimes leaves me feeling like I should do more to help her when she is sick but I don't know what to do. I drove back to our home a few morning ago because I forgot my belt and my wife is standing outside of her vehicle dry-heaving over and over. Something about the smell of her car really does her wrong. (It smells new to me so I have no clue) I wanted to help but there was nothing I could do so I was in and out all while she was standing there outside the car getting sick. I asked if she needed anything but she said she was good and I didn't want to be late to work. Some people say it goes away and some people never get sick. So strange how it works.
My best wishes. In a perfect world we'd all band together and inundate you guys with gift baskets and the like, but unfortunately you decided to appeal to the wrong demographic for that (most of us just moved out of our parents basement and are trying to make ends meet). The love is still most definitely there, though.
i hate to say it, but if you're the superstitious sort, that amulet could be seen as bad luck. :/ i'd think twice about taking it on..
best wishes, bash & family.
My heart goes out to you. I really hope everything is okay.
Is Mrs. Bashcraft a japanese? How well are you taking your mother-in-law's advices?
Good luck. I wish your family the best.
Best wishes Mr. Ashcraft.
@Weirdwolf: I second the ginger remedy, and send my best wishes.
Also, might I suggest...Tang? It was good enough for astronauts, you know.
Best wishes to you and your fam, B.
Pregnancy is not always easy. Hope everything goes smooth.
Adding my best wishes to your Karma pool as well.
Yeah preganancy... My wife and I just went through that. Always rewarding at the end, but everything leading up to birth... Yeah could probably do without.
Best of luck!
Hope everything goes all right, I'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers.
