Moneybags who didn't flinch about shelling out US $15 for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles can buy all the downloadable content for a mere $13. Still, not that pricey, considering how all the DLC for THE iDOLM@STER on Xbox 360 is easily over a few hundred bucks. According to Wired's Chris Kohler, here's a list of all the FF CC DLC:
* Three Races Pack (800 points): All three new races in one slightly discounted set.
* Lilty House, Selkie House, Yuke House (300 points each): Houses that produce new adventurers of the other three races in the Crystal Chronicles world.
* King's Change of Clothes (100 points): Crazy eyepatch pirate outfit for the King.
* Chime's Dress-Up (100 points): A new outfit for your assistant Chime.
* Sacred Shrine (200 points): A shrine that lets warriors temporarily buff themselves up.
* Gorgeous House (100 points): A big house that many different people can live in.
The game's DLC interface seems painless enough. The pricing, though, very painful.
Oh God, I Bought [Game|Life]

At least some of it is easy to live without... Not the races, though.
Mmm...seems a little overpriced. The game and the DLC.
But still, I might buy it when it's available here in the states ;D Loved FFCC on the cube Dx
Man wow... that's like wow. I expected them to be in the game. Why do that when you can milk then out of people. Give me money for this race that should be in the game. Great i think i will buy 4!
That's exactly why I didn't buy Lumines Live right when it came out. Maybe everyone will object to this sales strategy and the prices will eventually be cut?
Please, everyone. Object.
I remember the thread where the DLC was first announced... It was all like: "It's going to have a monthly fee and the game is completely bare without any DLC, cuz they have it all planned out from the start (it's hidden even though they tell you about it!) and it's gonna be like 10000 points!!1 Curse you greedy Nintendo!!"
Seems kind of funny now :D
@eastx: i doubt it will happen. People will support and then hate on us saying what is wrong with the price. :/
You have to buy buffs! Yay!
Heh, what a joke. No DLC unless it's free.
Uh...someone make sure EA doesn't see this. I hear Sims 3 is coming.
@[KU]Shindokie: Check My Message for 5 Of on GTP: You're right. Final Fantasy has enough fans that this will sell regardless... Damn it.
I wonder how many Wii points the cross dressing costume will cost?
Kohler needs to quit with the sensationalist OMG DLC $$$$$! and actually talk about the game so that this can be put in perspective. Do the extra races make a big difference, is the game crappy without them, does the gorgeous house make your city fabulous? This doesn't mean shit till that stuff is out in the open.
From a business point of view, charging for dlc is a very good strategy. If these things don't have an impact on the 'main' game, you can just ignore these.
As long as companies don't start charging for features that are vital for gameplay, this model is fine by me.
I also don't believe in the random shouting of 'It should be included in the game at the start'. Yes, in the past we didn't have dlc. Yes, times change. Yes, you'll have to adapt.
As long as you are given a choice, I don't think we can complain too much.
you know if the 3 races weren't part of the DLC then it would be fine. but the fact that it is puts a really sour taste in my mouth.
it would be one thing if later on down the line some new playable races were added to expand the replayability of the game. even if you had to pay for them, that's fine. however its very obvious this is simply a way to gouge the consumer.
is there some kind of limit to how much nintendo is allowing a company to charge for a wiiware game that would cause square to feel the need to do this? or is this simply a case of asshattery?
@marlblank: 'From a business point of view, charging for dlc is a very good strategy.'
We, as gamers, do not give a flying fuck.
@ErskinPig:
Maybe that's why many developers shun gaming industry. You do your work and just one thing happens.
People complain. Where are developers going to get a steady stream of income from? Selling a one - time package or charge for various simple additions (over time, that is).
Too bad gamers can't be more understanding. I'm not saying that you should take everything from companies, just that you can't complain as long as you have a valid choice.
@marlblank: soo many gaming developers shun the gaming industry. ??? you love parting with money so much buy my 3 races. JERK
Bashcroft, my brain had an aneurysm reading that title.
Chonricls? What's a "Kon Rickle"?
That's one major typo.
Chonricls? For shame.
any idea how much space the game takes up on the wii?
@mode7even: Makes me wonder if the content is actually on the disk and instead of "downloading" it, you're just "unlocking" it (ala Professor Layton and the Curious Village).
@Crazy_Buffet_Happens:
Not every developer is a game developer. I'd love to make some games, but that will stay in my own time. I don't see it as a reliable source of income.
Thank you for misreading my comment and insulting me. Fine day to you too, sir.
The worst part in all of this, is that I will be stupid enough to buy all that crap...
Just imagine if they had a final fantasy (offline) game on the 360. They'd make a killing with "Big Sword of Doom - 800MSP" and "Healing Song of Health - 800MSP"
Since EA's not a huge player in the Japanese market, someone has to step up and gouge when they know they can.
@Captain Impulse: From TFA, the new races are probably unlocks (one block each, or two for all three combined), while the new outfits look like new content (at three blocks each).
Though with the mention of a game update, I wonder if the races actually were present beforehand, or if they were patched in along with the store (which is marginally more acceptable to me).
Looks like the new races do come with a new dungeon and a new house, so it's a little more content than it might first appear. Still, I hope those prices fall a bit for the US.
Wow, Square-Enix can honestly go suck it.
This taste is the taste of xbox live.
Square forget about DLC and work on the darn Wii FF CC. I haven't heard anything for AGES on the darn game.
Please, please, please let it have great multiplayer like the gamecube one and not be some generic FF spin off (which by the trailer it already seems to be heading in that direction).
Fuck off DLC just fuck off.
@Erwos: Master System games are more expensive here than they are in Japan, so... I just don't see that happening.
Coming Soon: Extra lifes for DLC.
Just another example that leads me to believe that all the heartless :D higher-ups at Square would be more than willing to give up their own mothers to make some quick cash.
They're probably having sex with their money right now.
@Dr.Chocobo: Surprise! You're hearing about the FF:CC for Wii *right now!* This is downloadable content for a downloadable game.
@brieeyeball: I think he meant the "proper" game, like the one on the gamecube and the DS, in witch we actually battled stuff.
@Dr.Chocobo: Sadly, I'm not even sure about the multiplayer bits, as I recall someone in an interview claiming it to be a "more single player adventure" No Idea what they ment by that. Maybe it's like on the ds, in that you don't see the story unraveling in multiplayer. I'd be ok with that (although on the DS I've finished the multiplayer part earlier than the single, and it got majorly spoiled =P)
Also, Selkies FTW.
