Sony weren't messing around when they let us know in advance that GT5 Prologue was going to sell. Even taking into account the fact the game's online launch was hit with a delay, it still debuted atop the charts, the first PS3 title to do so for a long time. Sorry the rest can't be as exciting, however, as it's business as usual, with the standard Bran Training, Mario & Sonic, Wii Play, etc taking up their regular positions.
1) Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
2) Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (360)
3) Mario & Sonic at the Olympics (Wii)
4) Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PS3)
5) Pro Evo 2008 (Wii)
6) Brain Training
7) Wii Play
8) Carnival: Fun Games (Wii)
9) Mario & Sonic at the Olympics (DS)
10) Sega Superstars Tennis (Wii)

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue! Selling like the proverbial Wii's/hotcakes!
Carnival: Fun Games? I think I just threw up in ma mouth a little.
damn...Mario and Sonic Olympics still there!
Is it just me or is the list filled with bad games? (Not GT5 ofc)
Vegas 2 is okay but your right. The rest of the list is populated with idol purchases :(
@Bearskopff: & GT
Im curious about that sega superstars tennis. Still wondering if I should get it or not. D:
Anyone had a go at Pro Evo? Is it any good?
@enspik: Bad games? Pro Evo Wii is supposed to be very good and Sega Superstars Tennis is supposed to be fun
@Witzbold:
Its a good game, but its not Virtua Tennis.
And that right there, is its downfall. I cant even play Mario Tennis anymore, and I used to love that shit. :(
I dont like doing a game comparison, but I cant play the simple 'fun' tennis anymore. Its a lot like Mario Tennis, just with some minigames that are hit/miss. Smashing zombies with tennis balls is pretty fun.
But sigh... Virtua Tennis 2 on the Dreamcast, shes ruined all future tennis games for me.
GT5P is doing well and it's really no surprise even with the delay.
@Witzbold:
I've got the demo,but haven't played it yet.But,I'm hearing it's very so so.
@enspik: That is seemingly always the case with the British Sales Charts.
Evo just completely missed the mark this year. It somehow took a step backwards in both single player and especially multiplayer.
Sega Super Tennis was surprisingly fun. My nephew was wailing away and I joined for a couple of games; definitely matches the N64 Mario tennis if your into that sort of thing.
Yeah they're wrong about sega superstar tennis, its pretty horrible. Rented it while over in the states, weird disconnect between player and movement - feels floaty and the effects are confusing/make it hard to see the ball at times. The special moves are ridiculously over powered and annoying. Mario tennis is a far better non serious tennis game, i'd advise every to just pick up the gamecube version of that instead.
@Captain Impulse:
I think its actually how bad games get sales. Its a large conspiracy.
All the game companies constantly point and laugh at Europe, and never release anything on time with the rest of the world. By starving them, you make them pick up any old piece of crap to play, just cause they're starving.
At least, thats my theory.
Hmm ok thanks to all who replied!
I guess Ill have to save my $$$ for now. D:
Too bad since it looked pretty decent with the video that was up on Kotaku a while back. I suppose it will be worth picking up when the price drops then.
I have to get me some of that Bran Training.
@Arnold Rimmer's Garden Strimmer: Yeah, I've been a bit irregular lately. You?
I'm in the UK and the charts always look like this.
Even though i hate using the term, the vast majority of games sales in the UK are more for the "casual" *shudder* market. When class games like Ico, Rez and Shadow of the collossus are released they usually don't make the top ten, but titles such as on the list above always make it in there.
I'm not surprised at all that GTP is at the top of the list. For starved PS3 owners it's a little light shining out. I'm not going to pay for a demo though, which is basically all it is. I'll wait for the full game
@peAr_nectAr: Same, more liquidy than usual too...
considering how much they are spamming UK TV with the GT5 add I'd hope it was selling that well at launch..
Shame it's still GT no Ai or deformation. Still is pretty.
@Arnold Rimmer's Garden Strimmer: I was thinking the same thing. My cereal has really been acting up lately.
@Komrade_Kayce: That sounds like a pretty solid theory. I myself have purchased a game I regret during a drought of quality releases...although I will abstain from naming games due to the lingering humiliation.
Yup, sad to see that it's the kiddies chart holding up in the UK again. And on a side note, nice to see my GF's office in the lower right corner of the pic :). I only live five minutes away from there.
@Captain Impulse: Go on! I'll tell you mine, if you tell me yours.
i'm curious to see the numbers it moved not just the place it came in
@Arnold Rimmer's Garden Strimmer:
I'm with you. It cures what ails you!
@furiku: So do I...As in...Just across the dual carridgeway... :|
I was a bit cautious about getting GTP... I'm so glad I did, I'm playing it non-stop.
First GT game in forever that I have a hope of getting 100% in :)
@Arnold Rimmer's Garden Strimmer: Shame the bridge is out at the mo huh? Back on topic though, I don't think we will see a drop in Wii play anytime soon, I know I just got it because it was a quick and easy way to get a remote and a few party games.
@Astrofox: yah, me too. was afraid it wasn't worth the asking price. but now its taking away some of my COD4 time. im actually surprised that GT5P multiplayer is taking loads of my gaming time. So c'mon, euro gamers; more racers more fun.
Yay for the wii version of Pro Evo 2008 at number 5!
GT5 Prologue is disappointing to me.
@furiku: There have been several games I'm ashamed to have purchased at one point or another, but I think Night Trap takes the cake.
@Captain Impulse: Was Night Trap the one on the Mega CD that was, as I remember, pretty much an interactive video of some guys breaking into a house you were in?
There must be 100 bad games for every 1 good wii games. I sort of like supertar tennis...but the damn ball is almost the same color as the court which I have a hard time seeing the ball. Too cartoony for my liking...I'm going to have to pass...but I do want a good tennis game. I'll pass virtua tennis also.
Good for Pro Evo. I heard it's the best version I should rent it my son is looking for a soccer game to play. I'm shocked that there's 4 third party Wii software games in the top ten.
I really hope Prologue will be in every demo kiosk in stores. I want to see how it drives in person.
@Dannon: You nailed it, although I think you meant "Sega CD", unless it was called Mega CD somewhere else and I'm just unaware.
Urgh ,the Wii shovelware is ruining gaming!Good luck theres still some good games as Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Big wave to the BBC and the Armadillo. I see that this is an old picture though, since the Squinty Bridge (sorry, the "Clyde Arc") is in one piece.
Sega Superstars Tennis was kind of disappointing on the Wii. The motion controls were pretty unresponsive at times, and there was no online play, (but I can forgive the online play).
@Captain Impulse: It was called that in Europe to fit in with the Mega Drive name the Genesis was given.
@cowboyman: I would be on there too but for some reason the update still won't download, it keeps getting about 1/3rd of the way and then crapping out with an error message... Sigh.... I want me some online racing dammit!
Hah! It's only an april's fool, because NOTHING IS BETTER THAN MARIO & SONIC!!!! *runs out and buys another ten copies*
I wish I could write this off as April Fool's but I've seen British sales charts before now. And we had our yearly share of sensible already :(
@excel_excel: Ok, that's two not so bad games. What about the rest?
April fools! .. Sigh..
@phicaluk: Squinty Bridge will do just fine
@nottsville: "I'm not surprised at all that GTP is at the top of the list. For starved PS3 owners it's a little light shining out. I'm not going to pay for a demo though, which is basically all it is. I'll wait for the full game"
I wouldn't call PS3 owners "starved". There's plenty of games out there to buy. I guess it's all about personal preference. To you there's nothing out there but for me it seems like I just don't have enough money to buy all the games that I want. I don't even want to think about all the games that are coming out within the next few months. Maybe I should become a man whore for the summer.
@enspik: Where are all these bad games? There's only one definitely bad game on the list (Carnival Games) - or two, is Brain Training the shitty ripoff one? - and one which definitely shouldn't count as a game at all because it's basically a controller (Wii Play). The Sega tennis game I also hear is maybe a bit poor, but that's it.
Perhaps you're confusing 'casual games' or 'old games' with 'bad games'. This is actually a really great chart by UK standards, since within the top 5 it includes Pro Evo Wii [the best-reviewed game, at 86%], R6 Vegas 2 [83%/81%], and GT5 Prologue [82%]. Four of the top 5 slots are games scoring above 80% on metacritic! That's impressive. And the other game in the top 5 is a not-great-but-not-awful 67% too.
"Even taking into account the fact the game's online launch was hit with a delay, it still debuted atop the charts,"
Um, the charts only track retail sales so the online glitches preventing digital sales (and the steeper online price) would actually HELP retail sales.
looks like a 40$ demo can sell really well! let's see if America is as stupid too?
Nice to see the picture was taken before the bridge got snapped by the recent storms ;)
So what are the actual numbers? The 'always reliable' VGChartz has the game selling 374,607 at retail for the general Others category, which includes all of Europe.
Those VGChartz numbers could still be adjusted soon (wouldn't be the first time), but is that really a high number for the UK? If so, why exactly are people going gaga over sales in Europe???
You know Nintendo has reached the non-gaming market when the ridiculous Carnival Games has been on the charts for so long!
@Captain Impulse: The new pokemon game on the Wii. Hey I thought it looked good ok!
