It's funny how much I have written about Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Wii fighter has stolen a few hours of my life, but you might be shocked to learn how little I've played of the final retail copy. Pre-release? Hours! The full-fledged game? Embarrassingly little. It's just that the Wii is quite frequently powered down or *gasp* not hooked up at all. In my defense, I have eight consoles fighting for receiver hook ups.
Perhaps I should squeeze some Brawl time in this weekend, get some of those unlockable stages I hear the kids are into. This week at the Smash Bros. Dojo, Sakurai and crew talk about a few more precious hidden characters, plus talk about post-completion goodies. It's all in the Dump!
Monday: Beat the Subspace Emissary campaign yet? If not you won't be playing in the Boss Battles stadium.
Tuesday: The second pink puffball you'll play in Brawl is the unlockable Jigglypuff. Such a pretty voice.
Wednesday: Unlockable stage Hanenbow is from the Nintendo DS non-game Electroplankton. It's weird.
Thursday: Character Roll Call is less of an attendance survey and more of a point and shoot mini-game. Maybe you'll find Sheik's Special Moves a bit more rewarding.
Friday: Another hidden character, this time it's Toon Link who doesn't quite look... right without being properly cel-shaded.

8 consoles??? Pray tell which ones...
Don't worry you've played more than my 0 hours.
Toon Link is my character of choice. Mmm... Wind Waker.
@Spoony Bard: I'll second that!
Eight consoles? Wow, I'm curious to know which ones you have(*hint*).
I am intrigued. What 8 consoles and what is "dealing with"? Generally, I refer to what I do with my 4 consoles (3 current gen and PS2) and 1 handheld (DS; waiting for Kratos PSP) as "playing".
is that with or without handhelds? i have a good few... ps1/2/3/p xbox, gcn, wii, dc, ds... i even found my megadrive the other day.
mind you i haven't got enough cash to buy any new games... :(
so this weekend i'm playing red alert2 and maybe super stardust hd
PS2, PS3, PSP, XBox, X360, Wii, DS lite, GBA
That's my guess at what the 8 could be, if they are required to all be different from the others in some way.
"The second pink puffball you'll play in Brawl is the unlockable Jigglypuff. Such a pretty voice."
Jigglypuff got herself a purty mouth, too.
Yeah, Dojo Dump isn't as important as knowing which 8 consoles you have fighting for time.
Well, the fact that they have developed the ability to fight is the most important question, but taking the figure of speech out, which consoles are in your gaming area?
8 Consoles?
All 4 PS3 and 360 SKUs?
If it were Fahey, I'd make some joke about how five of those eight consoles are probably just dead 360s that he's too lazy to ship back to Microsoft.
Seriously, I looked at that thumbnailed picture and I was like "Did someone photoshop the emperor into a Smash Bros. picture?"
@PatMan33:
thirded!
im guessing 360,ps3,wii,dc,ps2,n64,snes,colecovision.
I have a buddy who still has a working 3DO, Jaguar, SNES, Genesis w/ Sega CD and 32X. His original Game Boy finally shit the bed though.
However, since the N64 and PS1 all he has bought is a PS2, PS3 and 2 PSPs.
I thought it odd since the Dreamcast was/is a great system. I recently sold mine and the games for $200. I just didn't have any time for it any more.
Damn. 8? I only had a few, now on 3.
Total (Not all at once)
Gamecube (Phantasy Star...), PS2 (SOCOM), PS3, 360, Wii, Dreamcast (Oh, How I miss you)
Damn, I read wrong. I thought he meant hooked up to Network.
GC (Dusty Paperweight), PS2 (Closet), PS1(Closet), PS3(gone), Xbox1(Door Stopper), Xbox360(Gone), Wii, Dreamcast (Cousin borrowed it then leant it to his ex, which she never returned), SNES (Closet), Genesis with Sega CD.
So only the Wii now =/ the DS and PSP don't count, I just watch tv while playing... chyeah.
1. Wii
2. Dreamcast
3. PlayStation 2 (US)
4. PlayStation 2 (Japan)
5. Xbox 360
6. Xbox 360 (debug)
7. PlayStation 3
8. PlayStation 3 (debug)
:\
MIKE! You need a console switch buddy!
Granted its missing HDMI, But I'm guessing most of those 8 consoles are 'pre-HDMI' anyway ;-)
@Michael McWhertor: Darnit, I would have guessed there would have been a couple pre-dreamcast consoles in the list. There's always HDMI splitters.
@Michael McWhertor: buy a smaller non-HD TV for the PS2s, dreamcast, and Wii?
@Michael McWhertor: That's 5 consoles, not eight!
I have 5 games consoles.
1. PS3
2. PS3
3. PS3
4. PS3
5. PS3
I also can't afford to eat. I'm going to die soon.
@Michael McWhertor: Thanks to this post, I think I may have to hook up the ol' Dreamcast again.
Pfft, oh McWhertor...
Duplicates don't count. They're like twins, you only care about the pretty one.
You should try what I do.
I have 2 switchboxes daisy-chained together. The component, optical, etc, runs out of the back of one, right into the input on the one above it. There is surprisingly little to no signal loss.
I have hooked up:
NES
Wii
Genesis/Sega CD
Saturn
Turbo Grafix 16
Neo Geo
Dreamcast
N64/SNES (the plug is interchangable)
Xbox
Xbox 360
PS2
PC (for TV-Out on MAME)
I unhooked the Gamecube and the PS1 because they were redundant.
Here's an older pic, it's a little messy:

I know this is slightly off-topic, but I couldn't help myself:
+ Watch video
@Michael McWhertor:
damn you and your debug consoles.i want one =(
since more ppl are saying what they have hooked up let me join in.
ps2,360,xbox,n64,dreamcast. im in the process of rebuying my old consoles(nes`s and such)so my list will grow.
pro tip:dont steal kids it only hurts those who lose consoles ;_;
My game consoles:
360 (RROD'D! waiting for repair), PS3, DS, PC, wii, PS2, and GC. My time is evenly split between PS3, PC, and DS. Wii only gets turned on to play GC games or when i have company. The Wii games are highly highly highly over rated.
@Billkwando: That is what I do too.
I have a bunch of AV switches daisy chained, and it does provide exactly what I need with no degeneration loss.
Anyways, I love how the dojo dump went from about smash bros to what systems you have connected to your TV.
Ill play along too.
Currently connected to my tv is a: 360, PS3, Wii, NES, SNES, 64, dreamcast, genesis. Sitting off to the side because they're redundant is a PS1, PS2 and gamecube.
There s should be more, but they're somewhere else right now.
@Billkwando: Well if you're looking to clean it up, while not removing anything, I'd say get either:
A)a different entertainment center
B)a component rack that you can setup next to your TV to house any consoles with wireless controllers and your 'non video game' components.
Or, if there are a few consoles you rarely use, but don't want to dig in the closet whenever you need a 'fix', you can get a mobile rack on wheels to store a few consoles, accessories, and one of the 2 switch boxes with everything hooked up. That way you only have to make one connection when you want to play some Sega CD then Turbo Grafix.
@dantemustdie: Sadly, we didn't have the SNES or the Wii at the time this pic was taken. It sits on the TV stand on the left of the swivel platform thingy. My DS and Neo Geo Pocket are nearby but they're shy, as is the TG-16 hiding under the netflix dvds and the mc chris CD.
OK here's my list.
Currently on the HDTV - Wii, PS3, X360, PS2 and Xbox. (DS, PSP, and separate PCs also in use).
Currently in the closet - NES (original and top loader), SNES (original and the revision), PS1, Pocketstation, N64, Gamecube, Virtualboy, Genesis, Dreamcast, Atari 2600, Magnavox Odyssey II, and a few gameboys including the original grey brick and a Tommy Hilfiger GBC.
Sad thing is I know I'm forgetting something (and the fact I bought a MIB virtualboy on ebay years ago).
@Billkwando: haha cleaning day around that area should be fun.
@Billkwando: Holy fuck. Thats what I need to do.
@Billkwando: Prey tell, might you link us to what switch boxes you use? I'm in the market for one that supports component but have only found either something really expensive or something known to have signal/quality loss.
not the only one with 8 consoles & not playing brawl since release. i only played about 1 hour or so after 3 weeks of owning the game despite buying it @ half of on release day. meh
@DaveKap: The top one is a Joytech JS965C and the bottom one is an old Pelican System Selector Pro. :)
Just got home so it was easy to check.
@Indy_aka_Rex: They count if they take up space! For the record, my Saturn, SNES, NES, TG-16, PSone, Genesis, Sega CD and GameCube rest comfortably in bins in my sun room/Meat Bun warehouse/art studio.
@Billkwando:
You also have a giant fire hazard, sir!
haha..
Currently hooked up to the TV:
-Wii
-PS3
-Xbox 360
-PC (doesn't really count, I know)
Waiting in the wings for open slots (or a new A/V switch)
-Dreamcast
-PS2 (Japanese)
Sitting on the shelf, longing for a slot from afar:
-Nintendo 64
-PSX
-PSX (Japanese)
-Super Nintendo (though this may get bumped up to a higher category)
-NES
Gone, but not forgotten:
-Xbox (sold)
-PS2 (sold)
-Gamecube (sold)
-Genesis (sold)
And that's not even counting the handhelds. I'll spare you all from that list, but suffice to say, it's quite substantial. Even have a Neo-Geo Pocket Color (U.S. version!) sitting around somewhere.
----------------------------------------
With the obligatory console listing out of the way (e-penis FTW?), I gotta say, I've logged an unhealthy amount of time into Super Smash Brothers: Brawl thus far. Without looking it up on the stats screen, I think I'm at about 40 hours, and that's all solo play. Don't really know anybody who likes to play SSB, and the online play is a complete joke. I'm trying to complete all of the challenges. Only have 20-30 left to go! Great game, but, unfortunately, not as perfect as it could have been. The load times and the aforementioned online play, in particular, mar what could have been one of the best games of all time, period.
Man, eight consoles vying for hook-ups. I only have one.(My Wii) I have 5 other consoles stored under my dresser.
Well, since there's no overlap on games that can be played by next-gen debug consoles and retail versions, I'd still count 'em as separate.
Fun fact: US PS2 debugs can play retail games from any region, but Japan PS2 debugs can't play retail games at all.
Because everybody loves lists: Not counting handhelds (because I've gone through so many) I have a (broken) NES, an SNES, a PS1, a Virtual Boy, a Tiger R-Zone Headgear, an N64, an Xbox, a Gamecube, a 360, a Wii, and a crappy PC. I usually only keep the last three hooked up and my room still looks worse than Billkwando's.
More on SSBB topic, there really are very few things as infuriating as being beaten by Jigglypuff. Especially if she only uses Pound the entire match. I should know; my foes frequently have to visibly restrain themselves to avoid throwing their controllers at me.
@Michael McWhertor: You keep your old consoles in boxes? My Atari 2600 is still proudly on display next to the Dreamcast and Saturn.
... actually, my girlfriend does the decor, and SHE put it there. Yep, she's a keeper.
Has anyone else noticed how watered-down Sheik and Marth are in Brawl?
It seems like they took their best attributes and got rid of them for some odd reason. Also I'm disappointed at how long it takes to transform between Zelda and Sheik. Great job Sakurai...
@NeoAkira: Assuming you don't want to use Zelda in the first place, you know you can start off the match as Sheik, right? Select "Zelda" on the Character Select screen, then use your pointer and "click" on the image of Sheik in the character portrait at the bottom of the screen. The name should change from "Zelda" to "Sheik," and you'll start the match as her instead.
I've been neglecting ssbb as of late, with modding oblivion and playing GW taking its time. I fear for my life when I sleep :-o
this just in: McWhertor is a waste of space.
@kylenalepa:
Yeah I know that, but I do actually like to use Zelda and her Up+B is extemely u
