While we already pretty much know that a new, prettier PlayStation Store is coming in April, it's always refreshing to see some acknowledgment on the old PS3 itself. Here's a shot of a banner captured on the current European PlayStation store. Apparently it's not clickable so it can't transport the Sony fanboy into some sort of preview of the Utopian shopping future for which we are all extremely* excited.
*In full disclosure, the author of said blog post cannot decide if he is moderately or extremely excited about the news, but he opted to go with the more sensational diction to promote a merry, festive atmosphere on the site.

Will be nice to see the PS store get a new layout, hopefully it'll be a little easier to navigate through and find what you want faster
PEEL OFF! PEEL OOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFF! :(
Coming soon, eh? I'm impatient when it comes to..."coming soon" stuff.
It better be pretty. :(
Let's hope it's good.
I just got my PS3 yesterday, so that's good news I guess.
I now have to return the PS3 today because it, errr, won't accept discs. :P
I read online and it's a known problem, I'll just get it changed and it'll be fine. But still.
:)
PEEL BACK THE LAYERS DO IT NOW!!
If the interface is so great, why isn't it out already? Holy Cats (how are you gentlemen!), why make us wait? Especially since it will (hopefully) have the effect of people actually finding it usable and buying stuff.
new look same boring content?
Huzzah!
@Woodwater: Holy jack. Out of the box and faulty? I would have gone mad. Worst thing to happen. Ah well, drop me your ID in any case (or edit it in your profile for that matter). Always nice to have more Kotakuites on PSN.
The current PSN store is a real pain to navigate. Hopefully this one will be easier and much quicker.
What I'm REALLY hoping for is a virtual help buddy, like the paperclip in Microsoft Office!
@Woodwater: while annoying now, it's good it happened when it did so you could return it back to the store rather than have to ship it for replacement.
No Way! The new Playstation Store is going to have a blue background! That's amaz...Oh wait =( That teaser sucks
@Candlejack: imagine, the next "countdown clock" a sticker that just slowly peels off about as fast as the earth rotates.
excruciating, no?
April Fools!
Yay!
@Candlejack: werd. thx for the add on psn homie. we def need more psn kotakuites.
@Woodwater: sorry to hear that. but congrats on ur ps3 purchase. better start preordering games right away! :D
@Magic Emperor Anima:
Like the constant "coming soon" promises for Home and its still-invisible beta! Ugh, they need to either give us real release dates or not give any at all. That goes for all three companies. If your product isn't ready to launch the day you say it is, then don't give us a date. And when you say "coming soon", you should mean "in the next three months", not "sometime this year". Bleh.
I do hope this new design is nice though...the Store's always kind of a nightmare to navigate, especially when you're looking for stuff that isn't a Featured Item any longer.
I was much happier to find the PS Store update having the Warhawk 1.3 update patch trailer. Well, not so much the trailer, but at the end where they announced April 2 being the release date.
Now if only they can get R6:V2 up and running online, I'll have no need to go outside. Ever.
I like the store now, but i guess it could be better. I hope it resembles the SingStore.SingStar's interface is awesome.
@Candlejack:
add me too!
I'm really looking forward to a updated layout.I really dont have a problem with it now,but I think it will have additions,streaming videos,etc.
@Woodwater: Ah, well as mentioned above it's a good thing your Ps3 died right out of the box then later on during it's life. Enjoy your purchase it'll be well worth it, I Just got a new one this week as well my old one was stolen out of my apartment while I was moving, just waiting for GTA now...
@Archaotic:
What do you mean "still invisible".
I can go home every night and log into Home.
@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.: That would make me cry. And laugh. Maybe burp and fart too, so potentially, I could die from it. =D
@enewtabie: Doing so ASAP (which is, when I turn my PS3 on after going through my mails and stuff) :)
@zanzibarlegend: Why, it's my pleasure, Snake. Or am I speaking to Gray Fox?
@Groodle:
I'm talking about the public beta, y'know, the one they said everyone would be able to try instead of just people in Japan or people who were friends of Sony employees.
Can someone explain to me how you can get a ps3 for $380 with no tax? Me and my friend got in a argument because I said the only way you can pick one up for that price is if it's stolen. He says that the guy gets the from wholesaler and that it's because they are phasing out the 80gb version. I just got one for my birthday on the 22 and I have not opened it just because I'm waiting for my exams to be over so I don't screw up my life.
I actually got a PS3 two days ago, although luckily mine works perfectly. Well somewhat perfectly, I keep getting signed out of PSN every 30 minutes or so. That happen to anybody else? I even hardwired the thing to prevent that. And, awesomely, they drop the price of Warhawk, so I picked that up.
I would love to play some warhawk with anybody really, especially Kotaku folks. Seems I am the only person in my social circle to man up and get a PS3, so I currently have no friends. (cue sad charlie brown music)
PSN: baxterpuncher
@BrentW: they are $349 used at gamestop, the 40 gig at least. So, that's sub-380
@baxterpunch: Yah but i'm taking about 380 for an 80gb brand new, and i live in Canada which means of course everything is more expensive.
@Archaotic:
I'm American, know no Sony employees, and got my Home beta the same way I have received every other beta in the last 5 years - being a member of the PSU (even thought I haven't visited the site in a long, long time).
Am I missing something else? Or are you just confused?
@BrentW: It's stolen.
@BrentW:
That's cheap
@baxterpunch: will be adding you soon!@Candlejack: David Hayter..lol
I'm really looking forward to this as I have with all of Sony's new initiatives and updates in 2008. They are showing they mean business and will not go out silently into the night as many predicted but 6 months ago.
@Groodle:
I've been a member of the PSU since 2005 (yeah, not as long as you, but still) and I received no beta invite at any point. I'm not saying you're lying, but Sony's been pretty dumb about handing out beta invites...and everything else, to PSU members.
Look at how long the God of War demo discs took to get out. Bleh.
@zanzibarlegend: Awesome, I'll be on most of the weekend
Just a general inquiry to anyone: For Warhawk, are the motion control flight controls more effective than the sticks? Noticed you can aim where you are not flying... Should I start getting used to the sixaxis flying right now?
@baxterpunch: Nope, sticks beat them by far (for me at least). It's not crap controlling with the motion sensing, and it's kinda fun, but it's nothing for accurate play if you ask me.
@Archaotic:
I hear ya, I have no idea how they choose who beta's stuff. I got lucky a couple times early on, and I always made sure I answered their surveys and stuff, just to make sure my account was still active.
It would be nice if beta members, of any game (last one for me before Home was Warhawk), could send out an invite or two to get others into the beta as well.
@BaxterPunch:
Motion controls are much more precise in Warhawk, allowing you to fly and aim independently - but they are way more difficult.
I want to see the new design. There's been enough mock-ups online that I don't even know what to expect now.
I'm going to expect something more intuitive and I'm pretty sure, Sony will deliver.
I didn't realize how bad the store was until this week. I attempted to buy 15 songs for AI:Encore and I would buy one song, send it to the cart, then when I go to add another one I'm jettisoned back to the storefront again having to dive through the convoluted menu system to get back to the song list. Rinse and repeat 15 times.
If you're buying one thing then its completely functional but it fails hard at multiple item transactions.
Can't wait for the upgrade.
@mullinsmcd:
You can't "Go Back" in the PSN store?
@BrentW:
Take a look at RCSS on their no tax weekends....That would be an 'effective' price of $441 and it includes a game.
sweet, cant wait to see the new layout
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
Yeah you can, I have added multiple items many times. If you just hit previous you'll go back to the listing you added to the cart from.
Maybe AI tracks work differently.
I still want a XMB store. I don't care if it looks better but is still web based...
@Groodle: Yeah, L1 is back. Just like the web browser.
@LittleBigPlaneteer: Sure you can. Just press L1 to go back or R1 to go forward again.
@kspraydad4: I have no Idea what RCSS is? I gooogled it and got Real Canadian super store?
Web based is fine.
But if the store is only updated once a week there is no reason it needs to re-load every time you select it.
the store should save to the HDD when idle, and only reload when it updates on thursdays. Then you could select the store and have it instantly appear without having to wait for each image to load one by one.
I opt for more excited as well...bitching is played out on "ye ole' internets"
A new look is welcome, but I always found what I was looking for rather quickly int he old store so its hard for me to see how people got lost.
@BrentW:
Yes RCSS = Real Canadian Superstore...the 'savings' will be dependant on the Province you are in but the example I gave was Ontario.
Dell.ca also has the PS3 'on sale' sometimes aswell.
A good place to find the latest deals (on anything really) is redflagdeals.ca btw.
@Accordion:
see, THAT is a good idea.
then you could browse the store at a lightning's pace. and you could use a cooler xmb-type interface which has more pizazz.
it should at least be an option.
being able to play music while in the store would be nice also.
They're going to cater to the ex-millitary internet early adopters and go with a gopher interface.
@baxterpunch: it's a Definite possibility
A slicker and quicker loading interface is all that i expect :) it'll probably look good at least, but fast loading i doubt it.
@Accordion: "being able to play music while in the store would be nice also. "
I thought you could do that already. guess not :-P
i'd see for my self if my PS3 hadn't flat-lined and had to be shipped to sony's repair shop
