Having seen Tron at the drive-in as a wee lad, part of a double feature—it was paired with the pimps and prostitute-filled Vice Squad!—the craptastic Disney flick will always have a place in my heart. The fan-made version, a decidedly lo-fi affair, only makes the whole thing more endearing. It's cute as a button and makes me wish I had a copy of Tron to watch right now. It also makes me wish I had my own lightcycle.

Wow XD
"It's cute as a button and makes me wish I had a copy of Tron to watch right now."
What? You don't have a copy? And you call yourself a gamer.
*FedEx-es special edition to save McWhertor's soul*
LOL, I was just going to question if it was "Swede'd" or not...
WOW.
That's one of the best stop-motion's I've seen. That's might impressive.
incredible.
Totally awesome! Funny how accurate it was to the look and the action of the film, made on 0.0000000000000000000001% of the budget, no doubt. :-)
That's really well done!
I was a bit confused, but from what I know of Tron, isn't Tron supposed to be the blue guy? And win?
Though I loved the Pac-Man and Space Invader. Any other retro game references I missed?
Hey man, Tron ROCKED! A true 80's classic (and a pretty awesome level in Kingdom Hearts 2).
that makes me want to drink computer juices to feel high
Oh, sorry, forgot to be on-topic there: That's a mighty impressive recreation of that scene. Spot on.
That was pretty damn cool. Loved its lofi look...
Ah nice!
this reminds me of that game Light Cycle 3D for the PC,
its pretty sweet :D

@Hiro0015:
totally swede'd,
and an amazing job at that, jack and mos would be proud...
other great swede's

very inspired, these guys need to win some kind of award for that.
Eh... It's only a model.
Shh!
Amazing!
That was pretty sweet.
Man that was so great. Lots of effort went into it you can totally tell. :D
@Polywhirl: While Tron, Flynn, and Ram were blue, signifying a "good" program, while the baddies were red, they gave the good guys differently colored bikes to help not only distinguish between the protagonists and the soon to be dead generic programs, but to also help tell the individual characters apart. Tron did win, and the actual main character Flynn was the one seen escaping out the destroyed wall, followed shortly by Tron and Ram.
[/nerd]
Id love to see them try to remake the scene with the tanks. Those by far were my fav vehicles in the series over the lightcycles.
@Witzbold: My favorite were the Recognizers. Now I'd love to see that.
*attacks Witz's tank*
The irony of this scene in tron being that in the tron game, the light trails don't disappear when a bike crashes... My school had the Tron Arcade game, it was awesome... We also had Pengo, Donkey Kong, Fireman (or something like that), and missile command.
@bobtheduck: Yea, well at my school we had cd cartridges of DinoParkTycoon. Take that! And yes, I said cd cartridges.
Heh. I'd never seen Tron. Now I don't have to. Life is complete.
Very cool, Outstanding!!
@Eienhander: this may be the only time in your life where you are 100% incorrect.
That was fucking amazing. Really, really innovative use of materials and cinematography. Well done!!!
SPECTACULAR!!!! AWESOME!!! AMAZING!!! I'm huge Tron geek so I absolutely loved this. Using the audio from the film was genius. There's just no replacing those classic sound effects.
I have the movie and this makes me want to break it out over the weekend and watch it over and over again.
Love the little "making-of" clips at the end.
What's even more awesome is that they got every turn in the maze right. I know, I've seen the movie a million times and this scene is quite possibly the best scene in the entire film.
If you haven't seen this movie do so immediately. No it hasn't aged that well but it's still one of the most innovative films in history as NO ONE had done anything even remotely close to this during the 80's. Even more risky was this was during a time when computer generated shots for films were basically non-existent so Disney was taking on a HUGE gamble that paid off.
Let's hope the eventual sequel won't turn into a steaming pile of cow dung like the Star Wars prequels.
@Eienhander: Sorry, but you still do. There is no "get out of seeing Tron" pass.
@Eienhander: Oh no, you ain't getting out of it that easily.
I liked the music at the end of this video.
that was cute <333 reminded me of the mini game in kh2
@Michael McWhertor:
I'm confused about your "craptastic" descriptor in regards to Walt Disney's film, Tron.
I was under the impression it was universally cherished and loved! Enough adulation to enshrine its vision of the future in the visage of high-end sneakers! [flickr.com]
I will forever love the misadventures of Flynn and Bit, the amazement of seeing an endless field of grid bugs, and the joy of knowing that a frisbee full of water is all the sustenance a real video warrior needs to get them through a long battle.
Maybe you were confusing Tron with that other 80's game movie, Clue. But that would be equally confusing to me.
@hfabulous: Both Tron and Clue are the bees knees. Anyone who says different deserves to have their power cycles slowed down.
Yeay for swedeing. I plant to swede a couple of films this summer
Oh man, that rocked. The things you can do with construction paper and cardboard tubing!
Craptacular? TRON was EPIC!
This video quite frankly demonstrates one of the greatest uses of cardboard ever!
LittleBigCycle? :3
I love that they got the shape of the blast hole correct and everything.
What's amazing about Tron is how little CGI is actually in it. Most of the film is done with back-lit animation and special process photography to create the color palette. There's only like 15-20 minutes of actual CG in the movie.
Pretty impressive.
@McWhertor... "craptacular"
*sigh* I'm disappointed in your otaku-ism... The Force is not strong in this one...
I saw Tron for the first time about a month ago. I didn't think it was any worse than most action flicks today, and it was certainly much better than any Disney flick I've seen in the last ten years. Sure, the vocabulary is a bit ... odd (campy, even). But seriously, it's not any different from the crap they say in modern movies. Seeing it made me realize how truly unoriginal The Matrix was.
I love all the details, right down to the paper 'streak' sinking down into the ground, just like in the movie. It seems they matched the cuts exactly. I edit footage for a living, and i put this edit up against any Bruckheimer action scene. (It's better, even...excessive speeding up/ slowing down of shots is SO tired...)
