Guitar Hero Aerosmith Trailer

Here's the first trailer for Aerosmith's upcoming Guitar Hero spinoff. Good news is they went with Sweet Emotion to sell us all on its merits, instead of, oh, I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing. Bad news is that even in flattering, cartoony form they still look far too old for this kind of business.

  • ...and 10 arms.

  • Maybe the video isn't meant to sync up, but none of those gems correllated with any notes.
And since I've never seen a picture of Aerosmith before, they're creepy.

  • Who is on Joe Perry's guitar? Or is that just some random blonde.

I am looking forward to playing Mott the Hoople more than Aerosmith.

I still don't know why Aerosmith was chosen for the theme of this game. So many better bands they could have used...The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead...

It almost seems like a waste, but that may be because I'm not a fan of Aerosmith; so this probably appeals to many people.

  • Yaaaaaaaaaaaay. I guess.

Oh wait no, Aerosmith always sucked and Guitar Hero started sucking with III. Oh well!

  • @NeoAkira: A) That is an opinion
    B) Aerosmith pursued this
    C) It's hard to get Led Zeppelin to cooperate

Eh... it's okay, but I think I'll pass on this if it's too much.
I do find it funny that I can only remember Steven Tyler and Joe Perry's names.
    @Polywhirl: Ahem... [upload.wikimedia.org]
Sorry I had to do that. As for the synch, that's just to make it seem exciting.
I need to stop replying to you...

  • It all makes sense now. I wondered why the lead singer model on GH3 had such a gaping maw, but it is evident now that it was mere preparation for the Aerosmith release.

    @ceilingfanboy:

"It almost seems like a waste, but that may be because I'm not a fan of Aerosmith; so this probably appeals to many people."

That's where I signified it as being my opinion.

And I didn't know Aerosmith pursued this. But why would it be hard to get Led Zeppelin to cooperate? perhaps I am just not familiar with their ways...

  • Milking in motion....

  • Image of Shindokie Shindokie at 09:34 PM on 03/27/08 *

Isn't this and GH4 coming out this year as well. I think this game is going be milked more then... I don't know so much milking i'm getting full.

  • WAIT A MINUTE.

I counted 3 guitars.. does that mean there is a 3 player mode now?

this might be a BIT better after all.

  • @NeoAkira: I was just referring to the beginning of your comment. While you qualified it at the end, you at the same time made your comment irrelevant. Joe Perry was in love with the game from the moment he saw it. Have you seen any Led Zeppelin songs in any GH game yet? It's not from a lack of trying. From the get go the developers (and that includes when it was Harmonix) knew people wanted LZ but they weren't able to get them. They even joked about it in one of the load screens. (No Stairway, and yes I know that's also a Wayne's World reference)

  • That looks terrible.

But I'm sure this will sell very well to the mid-west Wal-mart demographic.

  • @Erwin: Not something I needed to see, ever. Only this could wipe the image from my mind:[kotaku.com]

@Ruzzel26: No, it's the Aerosmith Guitarists, and then the player, that's all. We don't actually get to play as Aerosmith.

  • It's a summer blockbuster trailer with out the "Movie Trailer Voice Guy".

Seriously that guy needs to trademark that name.

  • @NeoAkira:

Totally agree. So many great bands out there. Bleh.

  • I love, love Aerosmith, one of my favorite bands of all time, but that video was just creepy as hell. Also as much as I love the band and wouldn't mind supporting them through this I can't give activison any of my cash for completely mucking up GH3.

  • Look, it's Aerosmith!
The drummer is still a bot.
    It's still Guitar Hero.

  • @NeoAkira: Yes, because all you have to do is snap your fingers and you can get The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin on your video game, right?

  • @NeoAkira: Led Zeppelin's management is notoriously difficult to negotiate song rights with. It's not just music games: people even have trouble getting permission to put LZ songs in movies. And those are big, multi-billion dollar movie production companies.

  • @Dorphat the Insomniac: To be fair, the words Guitar Hero don't exactly make you expect perfect drummer physics.

  • @Dorphat the Insomniac: Ooo, not enough sleep. I just broke form... son of a...

Since I failed and posted like a real person, I think I'll just say that GH3 is a failing platform and the generation that Aerosmith appeals to is not the same as the one Guitar Hero does.

  • Pass.

  • Yeah, I guess Peter Molyneux is pretty old for a guy who plays kids games, too. Maybe he should just stop and become an accountant or something. I know Sinatra was over the hill and people wanted him to quit entertaining. Thank God he died. Gerry Garcia too. When I said to people at work that I hoped Paul McCartney's next album will be called "I'm Going to Stop Making Shitty Music, Now" people looked at me like I was crazy, but I guess if I had said Aerosmith or KISS I would have been met with nods of approval.

  • @GOLD5: Wait, what are you talking about?

  • Does this game have that one song "Crying Crazy Amazing"?

  • I've decided to skip any new GH releases all together. Frankly, I'd rather spend the money on Rockband tracks, where I can play drums and vocals, which are skills that actually carry to some degree into real life.

  • oh, please! sweet emotion is great and all, but I was expecting Dude (looks like a lady) with Steven performing that "dance" he does in the beginning of the music video. some of you morons seem to forget that Aerosmith was a HUGE influence on Many bands including Metallica (especially James Hetfield), Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, and many others.

  • I think Guitar Hero should be boycotted in favor of Rock Band.

  • Page doesn't let anyone use LZ for anything.

    And I can't say I blame him.

  • The problem in my opinion isn't necessarily the music, but more of the note authoring. Having played the crap out of Rock Band at this point, going back and playing Guitar Hero is annoying at best. It is the note authoring, it just dont feel like I am playing the music on my little fake plastic guitar as it does in Rock Band.

GH3 was difficult just to be hard, because apparently Activision thought everyone loved the difficulty of Jordan, thus make the final songs stupidly hard (looking at you Devil went down to Georgia). My conclusion is this: the Guitar Hero series has become DDR with a different controller, and a (mostly) better soundtrack.

I will not pay any money for anymore Guitar Hero games. As a PS3 owner I refuse to buy another guitar when I have a Rock Band one that works just fine. I refuse to overpay for DLC. So, au revior Guitar Hero series, you shall be missed for the good times we had, but you just aren't your old lovely self. I miss rocking out on your songs, but I will find solace in Rock Band with its weekly updates.

  • @Marcus: Because the millions of people who play Guitar Hero are not as important as those who play Rock Band. Perfect logic, mate.

Look, I love Rock Band as much as the next guy. I've had it for one week and I'm addicted; maybe it's even better than GHIII. But people like Guitar Hero because it provides a guitar-centric game while Rock Band is more for a cooperative effort with all parts of the band. Each game focuses on something different; obsessing over a game so much that you want the other to die is like showing your penis in public. You might be proud of how big and good it is, but you're still going to get arrested.

Well, that analogy sucked, but ah well. Trailer's nice, and everything but the drummer looks good.

  • @mind in rewind: I'm a big fan of Aerosmith, but that SNL skit was pretty funny. I wish I could find it somewhere...

  • uggh, guitar hero is now the scourge of the Jedi, oh i mean console gaming, but still they are pumping out 2 a year now? thats pathetic.

  • It's not even that the models are toony that bothers me. It's the kind of toony they are. They're not Bugs Bunny/Mickey Mouse toony. They're Genesis-Land of Confusion creepy muppet toony. And we all know what those muppets are after...

I think Aerosmith is great. Don't have any complaints about them, except for the song Luke mentioned. Sweet Emotions is one of my favorite songs of all time, but it still isn't enough to make me buy this game.

Played Guitar Hero before and it just isn't for me. I'll stick with Rock Band and my drum pad I think. Hopefully someday Harmonix will be able to get us some master tracks, but the cover they have now is actually pretty good.

  • Kind of fitting. A band past its prime appearing in a game past its prime.

I'll be playing good songs on Rock Band.

  • It is so sad to see how fast Guitar Hero went down hill. Oh well I still have Rock Band, for now . . .

  • @[KU]Shindokie: Hates The New Layout!: It does a body good.

    "WALK THIS WAY JUNE 2008"

    HA!

  • @mexfreak86: meh I don't see it as going downhill. It's more like "not going up hill" Red Octane/Activision can't seem to to some up with an improvment to the game. I don't believe they can either. I think the series is going to get oversaturated saturated and eventually people will stop caring.

But I can't never guess what that casual market is going to do. This game could be huge sales for Activision and Co.

  • Brad Whitford looks like Duff McKagan there.

  • @NeoAkira: I can't say I like any of the bands you listed there, but I like Aerosmith

  • @Ruzzel26: 2 guitars and a bass

  • The blonde on Joe's guitar is actually his wife. She had the guitar made for him a few years ago and he now plays it most of the time (which annoys me, coz I always think of him as one of THE Les Paul players)

As for getting Pink Floyd, The Beatles or Led Zep, remember that these bands aren't active and therefore aren't necessarily pursuing exposure-making avenues, as opposed to Aerosmith who still tour and record.

You find yourselves dealing with the band's estates or their management companies, and these bands' ex-members are notorious for keeping strict control over how their music is used and licensed, hence the almost total absence of original Beatles, PF or LZ tracks on movie soundtracks, where they're usuaslly replaced by dodgy covers (e.g. the I Am Sam soundtrack). There are exceptions, of course (Cameron Crowe managed to get LZ's permission to use a few tracks in Almost Famous).

  • Unlike all the "one or the other" people, I still love Guitar Hero.

But even then, this has no appeal for me.

  • @NeoAkira:

Zepplin are NOTORIOUS for being hard to license their music. If you want a good example check out the special features of School of Rock where they filmed a special video just to beg Zep to let them use Cashmier in the movie.

  • Liv Tyler should be an unlockable character. And you should be able to punch her in the face for being annoying.

  • It'll be interesting to see the full track list. Still haven't seen or read anything that'll keep me from buying this. And, no, I'm not blind or deaf.

A Led Zeppelin version? Hell no, would not buy. I can't change the radio station fast enough every time one of their songs starts playing. It's not that I don't like them...it's that they've reached a saturation point with me. I can't stand to listen to them anymore. Same with Nirvana. Loved them up to a certain point, now I can't stand them.

Now, a Mötley Crüe Guitar Hero? Oh, hell yeah. Give me that and I'll be ecstatic.

  • Anyone else notice the "Gibson" logo at the end? Heh.

  • stop bad mouthing aerosmith, pardon the pun but they really are legends of rock. much more so than tom morello, slash, OR the devil.

  • dont get me wrong, Aerosmith rocks, but i think that Iron Maiden would have been such a better choice...

  • I like DDR, Frequency, Amplitude, Bust-a-Groove, Karaoke Revolution, Elite Beat Agents, Parappa, Rez, etc. I really dig rhythm and music games, but I just couldnt or cant get into the whole Guitar Hero/Rock Band games. But GH Aerosmith ... this could possibly get me to really try to like the guitar/rock games. hmmmm ... we will see. maybe after some time on the shelves and some price drops, I might pick this up.

  • So...may I ask why there were clips with only a note chart on half the screen? I didn't see a second one so it's not multiplayer.

Man, remember when Guitar Hero used to be about playing a fake plastic guitar...and not about watching horribly animated characters prance about a stage?

  • @TRT-X: They did a vertical split screen there with a blurry edge for the sake of the trailer. At first I wasn't sure 'till they showed a full screen view later on.

Love Guitar Hero, including 3. Unless this game gives less songs for the same money, I'll be all over it.

  • So amazing. Can't wait for this.

  • @marissa_melee:

    It's Princess Diana, I believe.
