The promise of Ikaruga for Xbox Live Arcade has been a constant tease since its official announcement in September. We know it's coming soon, but didn't know exactly when. Fortunately, the Japanese version of Xbox.com has put a date on it, pegging the release for Wednesday, April 9. That's a respectable distance from April 1, so we suspect our emotions aren't being stomped upon by cruel Japanese webmasters. Cross your fingers in hope that the world doesn't explode until at least April 10!

Best news of the day!
McWhertor our savior! :D
I'm not entirely familiar with the Xbox Live system, so do XBL games go up worldwide at the same time?
Or are they region based, like PSN and on the Wii?
I want to know if this only confirms it for Japan, or for everyone.
+ Watch video
Now to set aside 10 bucks.
!!! wooo !!!
bout time
a lot sooner than I had imagined. I've never played this but I here it will enrage those who haven't played before.
Have fun waiting, I'm gonna go play it right now.
@Polywhirl: If you got an account on the "other side" you should be able to dl it.
Since "normally" stuff is not RLed. Unless you are a bunch of pricks like with The Club demo. (Still bought your guys game tho, just dont fucking do that again ok?)
If anything Id assume its going to be a world wide release kinda like Trigger Heart.
I have it coming in the mail for the GC right now.
Hopefully, I'll get it tomorrow
@Witzbold: Ok. Cool. Thanks.
@GodzillaVsJapan: I've played Ikaruga before, but here's a demo of the first level or something:[www.geocities.jp]
I didn't really understand anything, it's all in Japanese, but you move with your mouse, and press space to change colors.
April is shaping up to be an excellent month, what with the new season of BSG beginning within days of Ikaruga, GTA4....
To think there is still HD Venture Brothers Season 3 coming this summer, not to mention MGS4 among many other games...damn 2008 is shaping up nice ;)
@GodzillaVsJapan: It will enrage those who are accustomed to mastering a game and dominating it, to making it submit and whimper like a small child in their grasp.
Those who can accept the flow and beauty that is such a masterfully crafted shooter, and learn to temper their aggression and simply move at lightning speed while shooting sparingly and switching your ship rapidly from white to black and back again to absorb different incoming shots and chain your charge attacks well...well most of them can get to the last level ;)
FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Erwin: Multi-tap to get it's first video comment nomination?!
I'm tempted, although I would prefer the gamecube version. I am a fan of the physical copy, and the one my roommate has is pristine, fun, and looks better than most Wii games. Sorry, but it's true.
@vanderblade: Heh, thats kind of like saying the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel looks better than most ceilings. Its not the canvas or the tools, its the artist.
The reason I'm psyched about this port is the HD upgrade to the graphics, as much as I love the GC version it doesn't look as nice on my 46in DLP as it could, looks better on a tube ;)
Damn the Gaming Gods for killing my 360! I was really looking forward to this game on XBLA. I guess I'll have to wait an extra month or so to get it, judging by how long it takes to repair a 360... drat. In the meantime, I'll just have to flex my thumbs with the GC version.
So what time zone does one move to to get this?
@okenny :): ...now that is O_o
@Erwin:
Win. That's pure win, right there.
And WOOOOOO for Ikaruga. Two of my favorite Dreamcast games were Rez and Ikaruga. And look, both on the same, current gen console! Yay! So now either I bum the 360 off my friend again... or purchase one myself... hmm...

@Erwin: I'd actually never heard Cohen do that song before. Jeff Buckley totally owned it, and still does based on that video. :-)
@Michael McWhertor: Deservedly so.
so jealous that this isn't coming to the PSN (... yet. hopefully)
Next year?
@Erwin: Points for sneaking a Leonard Cohen song on the comment thread and actually making it relevant!
P.S. Buckley's version is absolutely the definitive version. Those lost verses Jeff added, along with his ridiculously good delivery make his version one of the most beautiful songs ever, period.
Shouldn't have happened. I love Ikaruga, but it's not the same unless played in its proper 3:4 aspect ratio (IE: With your old school CRT screen turned sideways). Too much black space in 16:9, and it stretches out all ugly if you rotate. Not to brag, but I'm sticking with my arcade cabinet after I hit up the leaderboards for this one.
Yay, controllerbreakingtime again.
yay! now i can play and break a 360 controller and not a Dreamcast controller!....which reminds me, Im off to go play it now on my DREAMCAST
