Why The Nintendo Hate

We've seen the reasons for the Xbox and PlayStation hatorade. Now, it's only fair to show why there's venom against Nintendo. This should bring us full circle. Ah, much better.

  • DS Wide Shut. Briljant!

  • #68 and #92 made me lol.

  • The bottom line for me really is the thin use of online functionality where it counts. In weighing the good and the bad of all 3, the box still takes 1st.

  • Hmm. While I usually like these, they need to plan it better. Way to contradict themselves in it.

  • So much truth... and yet so much hate. :(

  • Ah, the trilogy of delicious hate is complete. That music makes anything more fun, much like the "Yakety Sax" Benny Hill music.
If I was putting this together, I'd show "Friend Codes" 8 or 9 times. Not out of lazyness, but for emphasis.

P.S. Electroplankton is actually pretty good.

Perfect way for me to end the night early.

I can almost hear my Wii weeping quietly as I close my eyes for bed.

  • More like 20 good reasons and a lot of grasping for straws. How is "poor sales" a reason to hate Nintendo? If anything, it would be bad advertising. And how are PAL translations not on the list?

  • I was enjoying this until they called the GC controller shitty. Anyone who doesn't like the GC controller either hasn't ever played a GC, or has some sort of mutant tri-fingered hand. That thing was the best controller of last-gen, imo.

  • @Nirual:

Yeah I just realised that too. Nintendo's in ability to release games timely in the EU. My current theory on this is that they like to spread out all the money they make over the whole year. I guess they struggle to count it all at once.

  • I wanted to say the exact same thing that Nirual just said. And Heartwork got it right, too.

  • Of the three, I like this one the best. Then again, Nintendo's been in the game longer, so there's more to draw from.

  • Lulz at same crap, different Zelda..even though I love Zelda games

  • People hate Nintendo because of Electroplankton?

  • I get the feeling from this that fanboys really like Pokemon.

  • Being a long time Nintendo owner (dont worry kids, "fanboy" I am not, else I would not have a Megadrive, PSX and PS2) I admit I had a good laught at this one. they really hit the spot with these 3 ads, it's hard to disagree with any of the 3.

  • lol this makes me lol better than the sony one but still not as funny as the xbox one.

  • I want to hate more so I can hear that music again!

  • It was interesting how 30 out of those where completely retarded reasons to "hate" nintendo. I.E. How can "poor sales" for metroid prime 3 be a reason to hate nintendo? Gamecube controller bad? Are you kidding, that was the only controller that wasn't awkward to pick up and use, PS2, and Xbox felt awkward and I've been gaming for a while. This were 25% dead on, 30% weak, and 30% percent stupid. The left over five% are just a matter of opinion.

  • xbox fanboy's even funnier

  • That was a pretty lame list compared to the Sony/Microsoft ones, I think at least half of those were totally unwarranted. That said, I did cheer a bit when I saw the sailing in Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass.

So far I'd say the Sony one missed quite a few things to hate on, the Microsoft one was about right and the Nintendo one seemed to be stretching quite a bit to find things to criticise. Maybe if I gave a shit about online play on any system I might have agreed with more of their Nintendo gripes. Overall though, these were a waste of time really.

  • @JakEastside v3: Ah, the Hitler video. Funny stuff.

  • I love the muisc in these videos :D

  • I think "poor sales" is more of a reason to hate wii owners; MP3 is easily the best game on the system.

Although Nintendo seems to have no interest in advertising the Metroid games which is a reason to hate them.

  • #17 Reggie was lol-worthy (as was old man crotch shot)

  • And the music is so damn awesome

  • they really have nothing on nintendo at least compared to ps3 and 360 but 360 is the funniest one

  • Half of the PlayStation 3 and Wii reasons were completely stupid and just used to fill up space to make 100. I find it funny how the 360 reasons were all true and probably could have gone beyond.

  • Considering that Nintendo has been going the longest their list isn't no where near as bad as the Xbox. Hating Europe, scattered release dates that are so wide apart you forget about games. Stupid friend codes. GBA could only be played with a spot light over your shoulder. Shit controllers not a chance, unconventional and forward thinking with some slight drawbacks.

  • all of it are so very much really true.

  • @JakEastside v3:

I can see what is coming. I've seen the Rangers transfer deadline one and it is hilarious.

  • All these videos were hilarious. My favs from this one were:

#17 with Reggie clearly reading off a teleprompter
#34 "I loved the Power Glove. It's so bad!"
#44 You let Rare go!? [And they were never the same since then :( ]

  • I was dissapointed, most where just absurd, and the other where a matter of opinion, i would stick with like 10 good reasons... which compared to the sony ones...

  • @ndsOtaku: I'm upset with Nintendo over Electroplankton. They didn't release enough copies. I can't find one for less than $170 new and $70 used.

  • These reasons are all true! Thanks for that great video :D

  • the mario party hands were the best ever, so much pain you went through for one game and you always went back for more

  • @chdir:

As much as people complain about the British games market, it does mean you can still buy brand new copies of this game at marked down price or the normal DS game price.

Also you can pick it up on eBay for less the £20. It is the same with a lot of the harder to find DS games.

  • Mostly true and mostly hilarious. Many of them did actually make me lol.
I don't understand #100 thou. The VC games have been my favorite part of the system thus far.

  • They forgot to put in constant re-releases of both hardware and software.

  • And just like the other 2, some of my largest gripes were not covered at all. BUt then I'm not a fanboi but a multiconsole user, so I guess it's not for me.

My absolute largest gripe with the Wii is that you can not calibrate the sensor bar for how large your display is. While this might sound silly at first.. try aiming on a projector canvas and you'll see what I mean. I can't aim above half the actual display before I'm over the display in the games, and sidewise I barely cover 25% of the actual canvas to cover it fully in game.

Comparing the Wii to the other two there's a gripe with all three that the Wii handles best, the 360 and PS3 comes shared last (I think the 360 have a slight edge though) with, that needs remedy 20 years ago:

    GIVE US MORE COOP GAMES!!!!

  • @Heartwork: the GC controller is complete garbage. The button layout is so bad. The C nub...wtf is that. The D-Pad is so tiny. The cords are very short. It looks like a fisher price toy to boot. Ugh terrbible controller.

  • I'm more pissed that they didn't mention the elcetro plankton stage in brawl than anything else what a waste of a stage that is, and Sonic and Snake's music get's the vocals cut but some horrible song for samus keeps the most god awful lyrics I have ever heard for a fighting game.

Plus they didn't mention the fact that Nintendo now thinks it's a good idea to release multiple version of a console in its gen cycle.

GBP - GBC (yeah I know it's a little different but not enough)

    GBA - GBA SP

    DS - DSL

    NGC - Multiple Color NGC

    etc..

@Heartwork: Check! Hated it but then again i loved the N64 controller.

  • @Heartwork: I concur. The GCN controller was my favorite of last generation too. Wavebird, anyone??

  • wow, half of those didn't even make any sense

  • At the risk of sounding like I don't understand that these videos are all in good fun. . . Electroplankton doesn't deserve to be on that list.

  • there have got to be well over 100 Ninjabread Man-esque titles for Wii and DS at this point, they could've just done a montage of all of them instead of grasping at straws. Still, just from a pure dickish pov was pretty funny, just like the others.

  • @pokebud:

It's nothing invented or exclusive to Nintendo. Just look at car manufacturers during the 50s and 60s? New models every year with bigger tail fins and different colours. But on the gaming angle everyone has released
revisions of their consoles through the years. Colours don't count because obviously people want different colours.

The difference is Nintendo has been making consoles and successfully for longer and Microsoft/Sony/Sega.

  • is it wrong that i love that music?

  • Image of battra92 battra92 at 06:44 AM on 03/27/08 *

Hmm, I admit to laughing very hard at the Xbox one and being mildly amused at the Sony one, this one was only worth a few smirks.

    A couple points though:

    1) I never understood the Wind Waker hate. To me it's the best Zelda game. Twilight Princess was somewhat of a letdown and I still need to finish it one of these days. I never minded the sailing and to me it was something refreshing and fun to find and explore every little island.

2.) The Gamecube controller is, in my humble opinion, the best controller of the last generation for everything except 2D fighting games. Too bad there aren't the fighting sticks out there like there is for the PS2.

3.) Oh Noes! Girls and adults is playing mah gamess!!
The casual market sells product. Nintendo expanded the market and saved their sales. My mom would never play anything except Columns, Dr. Mario and Tetris. Now she'll at least play Wii Sports. It was quite a big thing for me to bring home my Wii and have everyone wanting a turn at it.

The only other time I get that is with Mario Kart.

  • Heh, I think this one is the best yet.

  • All of these videos have been rather bad, alot of the points are just wrong..

  • @pokebud: Yeah, like adding colour isn't a big enough improvement but adding better graphics is? I think the jump to colour was the biggest improvement you listed that wasn't even close to being just a multiple release.

And yeah, the whole GBA - SP -Micro thing was overboard. The Micro wasn't needed, and the GBA felt the best in my hands to begin with. The DS lite was pretty much just an outward change to draw more people to it (and boy did it work!).

  • Yep, totally agree that the GameCube controller is great. Not just the best of last generation, but the best controller of all time. Only two flaws, cord is too short for the standard controller and the Wave Bird has no rumble. Someone could say it stinks for fighting games, but it couldn't be more perfect for Smash and even SC2 was ok on it, though everyone knows you should be using an arcade-style controller anyway if you're serious enough about fighting games to complain about the controller.

Loved the sailing in Wind Waker as well. If anything I wanted more of it, and a bigger ocean with more islands and more stuff happening on/in the water. Would have loved a boss battle against that ghost pirate ship thing using the cannon.

Definitely the weakest of the three lists, they got worse with each successive one.

  • This Video is kind of messed up ya know, for the PS3 and Xbox 360 videos you had to type in youre age but not for the Wii video.
Coincidence? I think not. 101 reasons is this list.
    lol poor R.O.B.

  • GC Controller was, imo, the best one from last Gen. I sometimes found myself wishing I could try playing Halo with it.

Overall, this one left me feeling like they put too many things in that didn't matter and missed a few important things, but oh well. Not like this is canon, anyway.

  • Damn, Microsoft had it easy.
Compared to Nintendo, SONY had it easy.
They weren't just focusing on the past two-or-so generations, they dug back to slight NES complaints.
A source of cheap shots, but no one would ever take these videos seriously anyway.
It is absolutely unfair to hold things against Nintendo that weren't DEVELOPED by Nintendo.
From the Advance's worm-light thing, to any Poke-swag other than the video games.
That's no longer in their territory.

Oh, and if you don't like Electroplankton, fine, it's a love-it or hate-it experience, and even the most diehard fans wouldn't deny that.

Oh, and the sailing in Wind Waker was fantastically conceived, you can't hold that late, long hide-and-seek stretch against the mechanic itself. Replace the railing on the sailing with railing on that last bit of the game, please.

All of these have been under-thought and poorly put together, but being (primarily) a Nintendo fan for my entire gaming career, I've just been waiting for the Nintendo one to declare them as such.

  • Was friend codes even in there? I guess the online quote from Iwata covered it. I guess I'm not immune to these, I didn't like some of their reasons (Luigi mansion is a good game!). ROB does suck though.

  • @Heartwork: oh man think again the GC controler is the worst. I would say the wii contorler sucks but I have never used it so I will not hate on it yet.

  • @batdrox:
Couldnt agree more, the GC is the worst controller since the N64 controller, which was the worst since the Jaguar Controller. Now that I think about it, I havnt liked a nintendo controller since the SNES.

  • Finally someone else stands up and speaks the truth. Zelda is same crap, different Zelda. Genius!

Honestly, I dont understand why people like Zelda games...

  • I had to jump in and join the "GC is the worst controller ever" group. It felt more like a cheap toy than a controller. What was up with the clicking shoulder buttons? Why put the face buttons in an arrangement that made it impossible to hit certain combinations of buttons? What in the world was there to like about it?

  • Has the funny folk-ish guitar strumming grown on anyone else?

  • I liked the GC controller. It's fairly ergonomic in comparison to the other two controllers of that era; the face buttons are arranged in positions in relation to where your thumb can fairly easily reach, and the buttons are sized based on use; A button is the largest, B is second largest, and X and Y are about equal sized. Likewise, the trigger buttons are pretty nicely sized. The fact that the controller has an old school D-pad is great, because it allows you to more easily go straight than the analog stick. However, the analog stick is much nicer in games where you need diagonal directions; trying to press simultaneously up and side on a pad was downright excruciating in old games. I think it's a nice compromise to have both. The pad and c-stick are placed nicely under the thumb joints. It's not a pretty controller, it's actually pretty ugly, but it's pretty nice in function. By comparison, the X-Box and PS2 controllers had a diamond arrangement of buttons, which while not bad, forced me at least to use a different part of my thumb to push different buttons. And as for the clicking, it's like with a keyboard. However, I don't think there were any bad controllers last generation.

Oh, and if it looks like a toy...guess what, it is a toy. They sell game systems at toys r us folks.

That being said, I love the hamburger for the old X-Box too. Hamburger.

  • @Heartwork: Wow. I consider the GC controller to be without a doubt the worst controller I have ever used. I really can't put into words my hatred for that thing. Ugh.

This one was pretty funny, better than Sony, not as good as MS.
