In case you missed it, "My Xbox" pages on Xbox.com have gotten a pretty drastic face-lift today. Click the jump to enlarge the side-by-side, but it's immediately apparent that the entire interface has been streamlined and condensed with more emphasis placed on horizontal space. Aside from the aesthetics, the biggest functional change is probably the achievement comparison, with one friend appearing on your main page at all times.
And apparently it's been "recoded to increase page performance." In other words, somewhere a Microsoft programmer is wincing from the still-fresh whip wounds and a marathon coding session, drinking a free orange soda to alleviate the pain.
My Xbox Update [Major Nelson]

Comments
I like it; it's much more widescreen friendly.
I noticed too, oh and the Old picture is of the OLD one, the one before the first redesign. I almost forgot what it looked like, thanks for the pic. ;D
I prefer the old layout myself.
I like it too. I think it's more useful than the old style.
I've had a 360 since release, and I had no idea there there was some sort of a MySpace for XBLive users.
It's so Web 2.0. Totally.
/me shoots himself in the face
'Major Nelson' - ugh. I'm hip, I'm with it! Word dudes, radical!
What's worse? A suit or a suit pretending not to be a suit?
PS3 owner here... like it a lot.
Reason I added that first part was that one of my primary gripes about the 360 when I borrowed one for a week was that I didn't like the way Live looked and thought it was too cluttered with mostly unecessary information.
This looks much cleaner with more relevant stuff fast at hand.
Nice job.
I like it, although the "I" in my motto is cut off so it looks like a command. Now to start comparing gamerscores! Hahaha!
Ugh.
I HATE the redesign.
I know it's too much to ask for the option to change it back, but I really wish there was an option to change it back.
@ErskinPig: He's not a suit; he's a tool!
I see what you are trying to do there, Microsoft. Needs more cowbell!
I'm cool with it except I don't like having my friends list divided across serveral pages.
@SigmundTheSeaMonster: agreed, I gotta have more cowbell.
The new friends list SUCKS. They made is so that instead of displaying the whole list on one page, you can now only see 16 per page. You have to click through page by page to see them all.
i logged in early today and saw the new one and thought something was wrong with my gamertag or xbox account LOL then i realized what happened
Borat.... Very Nice.
i like it. it's more better.
I think it looks good. It matches the whole motif the 360's menu has going for it. Much better than the previous.
I'm glad it performs better; I had to use the website to sign into live for the last month or so, and it performing better until I get my console back is a plus.
I like it!
@MeanMF: Yeah, that's pretty damn retarded.
mmm...orange soda.
I prefer the old one.
I'll probably get used to it. I like the scrolling games bit in the center that compares you and your friends.
On the other hand, I miss not having exactly which achievements I most-recently obtained on the front page (yes, I'm a slight achievements whore).
ZOMG!!!!11 So awysum!!!
No, seriously, it's cleaner and better. I love comparing gamerscores.
One of the many reason why I prefer 360/XBL over PS3/PSN.
I love having access to my friends when not at my TV, sending messages to them like "i'll be on by 5pm" and viewing what they are doing while still at work.
I am pretty much the only one that uses xbox.com a lot out of my friends, minus the guys I met through xbox.com.
@ErskinPig:
He's not so bad..won't add me to his friends for some reason though.I think he actually enjoys playing games,but he is a salesman for the product.
Our code monkeys drink Mountain Dew, not orange soda. Doy.
The new update is alot more stable. I am on a 47" 1080p TV useing my gaming Laptop thru HDMI hookup. The new site looks great now and now it's time for this place to get a wide screen make over.
@enewtabie: I think that's because he gets round the clock friend requests with a maxed out friend list.
Whoah, the recent friends list wasn't available before, was it? Nice addition!
@Erwin:
Well gosh darn it people like me..oh well.
Yeah,I pretty much figured that. Time for MS to up the friend count list amount.
I do enjoy his podcast though.
@MeanMF:
Agreed. There should be an option to display however many you want per page. I've only got 26 people on my friends list so why would I want it split up over two pages? it was fine the way it was.
@skullivan:
I completely agree. I only have 33 on my friends list. I don't want to have to click "next" just to see the last few. There needs to be an option to display however many you want.
Other than that, I'm liking the layout. I didn't not like the original, but good to see they are putting their resources to good use. lol.
Now, if they could only fix the forums so you could freakin unsubscribe from threads. I am tired of seeing updates posted on threads I haven't even visited, or played the related game, in over a year.
i don't like the new friend list either. i've got around 50 friends maybe and i'm spread across three pages. dumb.
@ErskinPig: I met Major Nelson at the Gears of War pre-launch event at Six Flags on Halloween.
He sent me an invite because we had an email conversation about something else a few days before, and at the event he remembered me and our chat. He was incredibly genuine in person.
Looks like another knock off of an Apple UI.
The new friend's list display has an incredibly bad design. I generally keep about 100 friends. Now my list is sprawled across 8 pages. I can't even see everyone who is online on one page.
I use xbox.com to send messages and keep up with who is online a lot, but that is going to become increasingly annoying. They better change it back. Outside of the friend's list changes, the rest of it looks pretty good. Looks like they added some functionality to managing your profile.
i dont like it. im on xbox.com nearly every day, and i liked the older design much better.
@ErskinPig: Way to post not at all on topic.
As to the changes, it looks... different, not for better or worse really, just different.
@Erwin: i had to go lookup your gamertag to find your motto. pretty funny without the "I."
I had no problems with the old style on my widescreen! BRING IT BACK!!!
@ Mark : I just went to the site to check the new style out but I'm still getting the old layout?
[live.xbox.com]
@Oyn: Oh yes yes, thanks for that officer. Good to know the Comment Police are forever vigilant. 8-)
The layout looks worse imo, too cramped.
That better?
I don't really like it too much, my main complaint is the friends list. That's basically all I use Xbox.com for, that and to send messages. I usually have lots of friends online at once and I don't like having to scroll through to see them all. And I also like to check when my friends were last online, so that causes more problems having to flip through pages again. Before all I had to do was scroll down the page and check, now I have to go to FIVE different pages that each only have a handful of people each. I don't know why they would think this is better, and I really hope they change it back.
@trixie360: The Trixie???... Can't be!
As a web applications developer, I actually like the new site. Much cleaner. Why do I feel like I'm seeing a movement towards synergy with this??? Hmmm... MS is up to something :\
Hey.... it's dis-ko-po from giz-mo-do.... he's an acheivement ho-yo
Dood.. I just realized my gamertag is showing on diskopo's friend's list.. too funny!
Massive improvement. Making the most recently played list into a gamer score comparison is pretty cool.
the old one was so much better Ughhhhh...
You missed something in your story. You can now view your friends friends list from the website not just from the console.
@okenny :):
for real! I heart kotaku!
I hate this new one. It is crap. :(
