Udon, longtime SFII and Capcom collaborators, have released some of their character art that'll feature in SFII HD. Namely, the little portraits that'll appear on the character select screen. These ones below aren't little, though. They're the big versions. Plenty big enough to show that Cammy's armpits are fully prepared for the extra scrutiny the HD era affords.

Eww. I kinda imagined hairy armpits as I read that. Thanks a lot, I was about to eat a sandwich :(
Aaaaaaanyway, I hope Capcom brings this out soon. Else I won't care anymore.
Someone's been waxing.
Wow, now that's HD.
@Candlejack: a sandwich full of arm pit hair
SEXY
I saw a video of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix in action and I was horribly disappointed.
This game can kiss off, even if it's got HD armpit shots.
this is not human anatomy.
i do not like udon's artwork... so overtly masculine and gross, MUSCLES EVERYWHERE.
I like the one comment on that blog post. Ken's hair is SERIOUS BUSINESS.
The artwork is okay, but what's with Ken and Cammy's ears? Those bumps look malignant.
i looooooove SF, SF4 has me hyped... with all the great fighting games dropping, if this doesnt come by spring, i will have to file this game under my "dont give a shit list"
This game is going to make me hate UDON....
i like their art, all of them are amazing artists, but releasing this they know that is an incomplete rushed and ugly game... they are artists, they know if something looks awful ( and worse in movement )
They are looking down at capcom fans and people who doesn't know anything about art , and that's what makes me mad at them...
What the heck is wrong with Cammy's face?
Eyes should NOT be so far away from the nose. Aaaaaaaaargh.
is ryus shirt made of dinosaur bones?
those are pretty cool, i would like to see the whole cast...
I like the look, personally.
MEGA SEXY. That's the best kind.
So how much is this game going to cost?
Can't wait, can't wait.
Anyone else think Tom Cruise when they saw the chopped pic of Ryu?
SNK this is how you make a fighting game.
@gunstarhero: I did now
@Fireblast:
Have you seen KOF XII?
@Fireblast: Hmm, eh...hope ya ain't comparing this to KOF XII. Not really much of a comparison there.
Have you seen KOF XII? >_>
@Demonbird: Took the words right outta my mouth. ^_^
@push eject: You too, eh?
Can't wait for this to come out. The Udon Crew has been doing a fantastic job on this project.
Udon's artbook looks good, but Super Turbo HD really is hit and miss... mostly miss IMO...
Have you guys seen the vids of this? The animation looks horrible because seems like they just trace over the each original animation fram while modifying it when they draw it, instead of actually trying to "animate" what ever they were drawing, so there are like weird "spazzes" in the animation which really bothers me.
Another complaint is the midi like cheaply made sound track really has to go... If it's worse than the original, why even bother... There was a Street Fighter 2 remix sound track CD that was great, hope they would just use that or something...
For stages so far the only stage that I thought "Wow, looks good" was Vega's stage. Anyway I hope they are still willing to change some of the art and in game sprite animation... cuz some of it just looks too fugly, to the point that the original looked even better imo. If they are remaking it in HD, graphics is definitely a big part of the selling point, hope they get it right because I don't want to end up not buying the game because of some cheap looking art/animation that I could not stand.
For everyone complaining about the art in this game...I don't understand your qualms. Sure, everyone has thier own taste, and you certainly aren't required to like it...but please remember, these are stylized characters. They aren't meant to look hyper-realistic. (the same is true for SFIV, FWIW).
I've always been a fan of Udon's work; I own every comic book in the SF series, so perhaps this post has a bit of fanboy bias, but like I said, you aren't required to like it. Just realize that these aren't photo-realistic shots...they aren't meant to be. They're a team of artists' interpretation of what the original SF characters look like.
cammy's eyes. look at them.
Udon needs a new art direction to their street fighter comics/games, they're seriously outdated.
@gunstarhero: Now that you mention it...
@ashjaw: Ugh, you're right. I noticed them too. They look weird and...creepy.
Yikes, apparently the golden ratio of face geometry does not apply here. Most ugly!
@Dir_en_grey: The artists are still handicapped by the original art. Capcom already mentioned the fact that they are keeping the number of frames and the hit boxes the same. Which makes sense if this is going to be a "budget" game and them wanting to keep the gameplay as close to the original as possible. If anything the animation may stand out and look worse than the original because of the art being in HD.
There does seem to be something funny with the standing animation in the latest videos though. It looks like the frames aren't looping correctly or something.
@Dir_en_grey: The animation can't be changed since they are trying to preserve the original gameplay. The artists are not given much room to be creative because it would affect gameplay mechanics.
@Cogito: Nobody is asking for photorealism. Ever since the Alpha series, the look of the characters have been pinned down very precisely to the point of being iconic. Fans are instinctively picking up on the disconnect with how they think Ryu should look and what this character portrait shows.
The HD art is great and all, but sadly you miss out on the "jiggle and bounce" factors.
No pointy ski-ramp anime noses? No saucer-sized eyes? Lips versus a pasted-on 2D mouth? Bone and muscle structure? ZOMG I HAET UDON THEY ARE BAD ART
@Nawara_Ven: I know, right? How DARE people have opinions?!
If professionals like Burne Hogarth taught all of us comic illustrators anything, it would be that eye's are spaced one eye length apart from each other. I don't care what style you use, there is no reason for why Cammy's eyes aren't properly aligned, and spaced so far apart. I've seen you do better UDON, like the Ken and Ryu portrait pics type of better.
Criticisms aside, the colors and pencils look excellent, as expected from the collaborative efforts of UDON's Alvin Lee and Gary Yeung. As for their style, I like it. Always have. It's like they were influenced by Capcom artists Edayan and Bengus, from their work on the Alpha series, which in turn was influenced by the design style from The Animated Movie. Muscular and detailed characters, with an Anime influenced drawing style, is always cool when there is a need for it. Like when drawing a bunch of MARTIAL ARTISTS in an anime styled game.
Now excuse me, I have to continue thumbing through my pencils only raw edition of Street Fighter 2 # 5. All the while awaiting this games completion.
Also, would these people be so kind as to do new ending art with the now established canonical endings. Not everyone played Super Street Fighter II Turbo: Revival on the GBA, and it gets weird when people still think Cammy isn't a clone of Bison, but his lover.
yeh, I'd have to agree the drawing for Cammy is off.. One of those off days for Alvin. He's done some REALLY NICE drawings of Cammy in the comics but this profile is just ... bad.
Here, I fixed Cammy's portrait. She no longer has downs eyes and a goofy arm.

Jeez Ryu's jaw is more stiffer than Duke Nukems
@Dir_en_grey: The animation lacks smoothness because the game uses the same number of frames to keep gameplay exactly like SSF2T. It's a gameplay choice.
Oh, and the art looks awesome.
So wait, is this SFIV or SFII? I mean, it's the same shit right?
@Zyzex_Remix: SFIV and SFIIHD, the same...?
Well, uh, let's see. Street Fighter II HD is a port of Street Fighter II with redrawn hi-res 2D graphics.
Street Fighter IV is a new game set between SFII and SFIII, and is 3D, with some new gameplay mechanics and three new characters, so far.
So, no, I wouldn't say "the same".
Wait? Where ARE Ken and Ryu's hairy armpits?
If they don't release this soon, I'll have to file it under "don't give a shit". It's getting to be like Dojo Dump Mark II.
With KOF, SF4, and Samurai Shodown II coming, I can safely avoid dealing with all those crappy cash-in characters they added to this game, Cammy aside.
@Fireblast: SNK can't hear you, cos they're too busy proving you wrong.
@Angryrider:
They're modern men; shiny as little girls yet bulging with muscle.
@kNZA: Actually, the metrosexual style is on the decline, it's now all "retrosexual" (I kid you not), where men have to be beardy and stuff a la Matthew Fox in Lost.
@FranUnFine: the boys only want to know if they should or should not shave their groin these days. does matthew fox shave his groin?
I don't know what you guys are talking about, everything about this game looks incredible.
And whoever said that there was too much muscle, ITS STREET FIGHTER! FUCKING STREET FIGHTER! You can never have too much muscle in street fighter. I would play if it was just 2 giant biceps with headbands that could do HADOUKEN!
Cammy looks like a guy. Reminds me of this.
never quite understood why cammy's portrait was posed like that. is she up agaisnt a well with her hands on a head?
The HD sprites & backgrounds recently got better, but these portraits are horrible. They should hire Kinu Nishimura.
@FranUnFine: I think the correct term is "hobosexual" ;)
Release the game already.
This is my SFIV. Character art done (mostly) right.
And I don't just mean those portraits, they're passable if you don't scrutinize them or anything. But the game itself looks sweet.
Curious as to why they didn't just use the portraits from SSF2T Revival and slightly retool those:
