Bully Patch Needs Patch?

Before I go on, we haven't heard squat about this from any of you, but others have, so who knows (UPDATE: Ok, we've now heard from plenty of you experiencing these problems). Commenters on Larry Hryb's Microsoft blog have been complaining that the update intended to fix a bunch of serious issues with the 360 version of Bully instead leaves many of the game's glitches unaffected, and some users have even reported it's made things worse. Shame, really. Feel free to post below how it's all gone for you.

  • Bully sucks anyway, serves anyone right for buying such a retarded game.

  • Moral of the story: just play the oringal and not Ports.

  • I dunno... Until a certain point in the game (after I did a few missions), it was like I was on a time limit, and if I didn't get those missions done, then it would freeze. Now, I don't have the problem. Framerate has improved, as well. I haven't seen any lip-synching issues as I did previously, either.

  • @-Sigil-: Bully is an amazingly fun game that I glady spent 30 hours 100%. and yes, this was the supposed "broken" 360 version.

Sucks to hear about this. I enjoyed the original.

  • @-Sigil-: some ones got sour grapes for rockstar. penny for your thoughts?

  • I played through and 1000'd the game before the patch was even released and didn't have any issues at all except for two game freezes, but freezes happen with any game sometimes.

It really is a fucking great game, especially for those who never played it on PS2.

  • @-Sigil-: Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the discussion. Go back to GameFAQs.

    @mossberg:

Give him a dollar to stop talking.

I don't have a 360, but was thinking about picking it up for the Wii. Anyone know if the Wii version is gimped too?

  • Comment on Bully Patch Needs Patch? No problems before. None now.

  • works fine for me now, and im somehow still running my launch XBOX 360...

  • Image of ca$h ca$h at 08:39 PM on 03/25/08 *

didn't do shit for me one way or the other. I noticed no difference at all.

  • @Pezdispenser: Wii version supposedly works great. It's a shame that the 360 version's having some troubles, but rockstar will probably try it's best to make everything better.

  • That's too bad, was thinking of getting this as I only played an hour or two of the orignal but enjoyed it. It's weird lately a lot of buggy titles coming out lately at a time where traditionally there is no rush. Maybe something with the financial quarters. I've been totally burned by an unplayable online PES 2008 this month, and I noticed a few annoying glitches with Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

  • Before patch... Fine.

    After patch... Fine.

  • The patch made freezing less common for me and errands seems less likely to disappear until a reboot, but it added audio skipping (especially as an errand appears around city hall) and flickering to racing blips. There's a bunch of glitches that were never fixed like the crazy window flickering (again especially near city hall) and most, including me, still can't get the Nutcracker outfit to unlock after completing the new Nutcrackin' mission.

  • @Pezdispenser: That teaches the wrong ideal. "You're a jack-ass. Have a dollar!" No, you lock him in a tiny cage, forever.

@Kirill83: You know, exceptions to the rule in a singular situation don't exactly prove anything. Of course there will be people with working launch 360's. Only 40-50% of 360's break. Just because something happens to you doesn't mean that that's how it is for everyone. It's a pretty narrow viewpoint to take.

  • Before patch... fine.
After patch... mostly fine, a few sound stuttering bugs which I didn't have before.

  • Everything is good for me. Had no problems before or after the patch. Awesome game :D

  • Got 1000/1000 when all the issues were going on, and returned it to gamefly. Use a memory card to save, not the hard drive- do a system cache clear- and it cleared up for me. The second I tried the HD again? crash

  • patch got rid of freezes no framerate probs but i have horrible audio issues now like cut outs and pops and load times still suck massive donkey balls i gave up playin vegas 2 and bad company beta FTWWWW

  • When I first got the game, it locked up on me about 45 minutes in.

So I waited for the patch.

After dling the patch, I've got over 10 hours into the game, and have had zero problems whatsoever.

I should also add that I got one of the newer hdmi pro packs when my 360 went splodey last October, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I'd heard that the glitches and locking up were affecting older 360's(even though it locked up on mine before the patch so take that as you will).

And Bully is a fantastic game. I played through it on the PS2, and I'd forgotten how engrossing and addicting the game was.

Glad I returned to it on the 360.

  • Shame because Bully was one of those gems overlooked because of all the controversies.

  • @vicmasterinc: I suppose you kind of faked it when auditioning to be a commenter.

  • @-Sigil-: CHOKE ON YOUR FALSE WORDS. also, ive been playing it all weekend and havent had any problems whatsoever.

  • Oh dear. And here I was thinking the early reports might have been an exaggeration. Cheers everyone.

  • Some QA manager is going to get his ass fired if this one is true.

  • Good thing I got the Wii version

  • Funny how the port of a PS2 game has such problems on the Xbox360.

  • @vicmasterinc: Please don't buy Bad Company. This is going to be EA's big experiment w/selling tiny pieces of the completed game back to people after ripping them out.

  • @-Sigil-:
    ...no.
bully is excellent. (i played the ps2 version)

  • has anyone else noticed on the wii that the voices sometimes phase?
also two people speak at the same time when they shouldnt

  • @mossberg: My only thoughts are that this promotes random thuggish behaviour. Any other companies games I would gladly defend against idiots that criticize games as promoting violence but Rockstar releases the most pointlessly violent and graphic games that I just can't respect them. I don't agree with censorship of violence and sex but I do believe that some parts of it (the extremes like rape, very gory and brutal murder etc.) should be censored. Basically I just dislike there games in concept. I have played the GTA games and enjoyed them before as a kid even (from 12-16) but then it just got more and more stupid in my eyes as I grew up.

@DesmondHume: Do you enjoy actual school (or did you)? It's like big brother, watch people do what you can do yourself. There's nothing to it. You're either at school and hate it or not at school anymore and should be glad. If you liked school then why play a game where your some dumb chav?

@zakky venom: Which ones were false?

  • In about 20 hours of play, I had one lock-up pre patch. Post patch, the sound skips from time to time, but no issues otherwise(only played a couple of hours though). I'm playing on an early '07 Elite with the extra heatsinks, if that matters.

  • @-Sigil-:
So are you just trying to alienate yourself here? I mean, you have a right to your opinion, but don't be a dick about it.

  • Image of Eltigro Eltigro at 09:17 PM on 03/25/08 *

Patches? We don't need no stinkin' patches!

  • @TheEngineer: Rocking the Goggles: I'm not a dick, I just have a strong opinion and tend to voice it. If that's being a dick then any outspoken person is a dick by default. Basically I don't agree that people should just shut there mouths until they have something nice to say. I have an opinion, you guys do and just cos mine is different I'll be the one to be jumped on. If this was a 'we hate bully' thread could I lambast anyone who says they like it and say they're just trying to be different? It's just modern day people only wanting to be surrounded by those of the same opinion so they deride those who disagree. If I had no points and came in here insulting it pointlessly I'd agree with you but my points are that the games are essentially over violent, pointless and bad. If you don't care about the violence and only bought it for fun then my opinion doesn't even effect you.

  • @Heyyou27: That's what happens with ports. With millions of lines of code, you can bet that somewhere along the line, something is not going to work perfectly.

So these aren't game-breaking glitches, but merely minor hiccups? I can deal with a few annoyances, although hopefully Rockstar will continue to address these bugs.

So for the most part, people seem to think this game is worth-while?

  • @Pezdispenser:
nit really the wii version doesnt have no problem like in the 360 ones, only the graphics

  • @-Sigil-:
"Bully sucks anyway, serves anyone right for buying such a retarded game."

Sounds like a dick statement to me. Fine. I guess I'm not getting an argument from you, other than the meaning of the word dick. But, whatever, I like that you're blunt. I hate when people try to weasel out of a statement that might get them some heat. Well, as long as we're being blunt, I think you're an idiot who falsely accuses people of deriding others when they're the only ones talking shit.

  • Wii version is fantastic. Looks as good as the PS2 version and controls way better. The mini-games are fantastic fun, and has that typical RockStar - great idea, poor execution feel.

Best part about Bully, by far, is the amazing soundtrack.
The music is fun, mischievous, and smooth all at the same time.

The worst part about Bully is the hundredth time I had to watch the kissing animation to gain health and maintain relationships. Funny at first, then they get longer as you get better at it.

  • Before the Patch: the game locked up on me, forcing me to restart my 360. The game had literally just started so no big deal, and it never happened again since. ...and some other oddities like when he sits down at his chair in class and spins around (sorta like the girl in the Exorcist).

After the Patch: All sorts of weird oddities, including when he sits down at his chair in class and spins around (sorta like the girl in the Exorcist).

Don't get me wrong though, the oddities are definitely not a deal breaker by any means. But the patch didn't seem to fix 'em. In fact, I'm not really sure what the patch did exactly 'cause I don't see any difference. :P

  • I actually wrote in that I had a problem with the stronghold mission. I failed the first time, a cut scene runs and you start the boss battle again. So I figured out how to beat Earnest. After I beat him, the cutscene ran, and after loading, started at the beginning of the fight. Beat him another time, and again it got stuck in the loop where I got sent to the start of the fight. After about 3 attempts it finally continued, but I was ready to give up on the game completely. Bad patch guys... :(

  • no posts huh?

  • Before the patch, the game crashed on me twice pretty early on, and then went about six more hours without anything going wrong.

After the patch, I've played about 18 more hours with no crashing, but now the music stutters sometimes.

Also, they need to fix Jimmy's animation when he sits down in a classroom. When he makes contact with the chair, he spins all the way around every time.

  • @TheEngineer: Rocking the Goggles: Everyone calls something shit, have you never just played something you thought was utter crap and pointless? This is what I feel about these games that's all. I didn't say you was deriding me anyway, I just said it's common for people to edge out those who have different opinions. And your the idiot since rather than just talk about the game you have just stuck to talking about me so yes you are just insulting me, your whole posts were fixated on me whereas mine was atleast on topic and about the game.

  • @-Sigil-: somebody was bullied in high school

  • Image of ca$h ca$h at 09:58 PM on 03/25/08 *

    @-Sigil-:
I don't agree with your opinion sir, but I DO agree with you it is sometime more trouble than it's worth dealing with people who think it's 'wrong.' I have had to handle that situation before and some people just can't get over the fact someone thinks differently than them and doesn't LOVE everything they do, or HATE everything they hate.

  • @mossberg: Haha my thoughts exactly. Tragic.

  • @mossberg: Actually I never was, no one bullied me since I lived in a not so violent school and I was pretty popular.

@ca$h: Well good I suppose since I didn't expect everyone to agree with me. Don't want to troll though so I'm gonna dissapear now having said my opinion.

  • @-Sigil-:
Don't want to troll? OK... Actions speak louder than words, but good riddance.

  • @mossberg: i was bullies extensivly in high school, and i think a tounge in cheek game like bully would have helped me loads. Theres nothing better when you being bullied than to let you stress out on a video game, and somthing like that would be a great candidate.

    everyones different i guess
