Guitar Hero Aerosmith To Be Thankfully Not Just Aerosmith

Oh, we knew from the get-go that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith wouldn't just feature the middling, aging bad boys from Boston, saving us from gagging on a disc full of the band's signature schlock. The original press release even says that "celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way" will appear. Who? Well, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has been pretty mouthy about that lately, with the latest issue of Game Informer revealing that Cheap Trick, Mott the Hoople, Joan Jett and The Kinks will have their own tunes on the next Guitar Hero release.

We've also heard that the guitarist dropped additional names earlier this month, spilling that tracks from Lenny Kravitz, The White Stripes and Deep Purple would appear in the game. If you want to read the Q&A with Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton at Game Informer, you'll have to be a subscriber. Just kidding, obviously! No one cares what a band's bassist has to say.

  • Still don't care.

  • I can pay at most 50 dollars for a new Guitar Hero game with the highest ratio of music I actually like to date, or I can pay 170 dollars for a useless, gimped mockery of Rock Band that has probably the lowest ratio of songs I like and no method of improvement.

It gets really old seeing people needlessly trash Guitar Hero, and this just solidifies my opinion. If Activision makes a lot of titles like this they will successfully find their own corner to play in as a less generic and more flamboyant guitar adventure. Believe it or not, some people don't actually have friends and play video games BECAUSE of that.

Rock Band is useless to people like me, but this game looks great. Regardless of how stupid Activision is, that doesn't change the fact it is good music. If you like Rock Band, play Rock Band. I won't be getting until at least the first hardware revision, but meanwhile I'll be having plenty of fun playing Guitar hero spinoffs like this as long as they don't try and pull a fast one with a severely abridged tracklist.

  • White Stripes... ok. please don't make me shell out $50 for another expansion pack though. Rock the 80s left an awful taste in my mouth.

  • Then why call it that? Why not call it "Guitar Hero 3.5: Filler edition"? :P

  • nope......still not doing it for me

  • So this is the Consumer Whore Edition eh? I'll pass.

  • oh lol. I am SO renting this....

  • The thought of any sort of guitar video game related to the horrible crap music Aerosmith has put out makes me want to vomit. They might as well release Guitar Hero - Christmas Carols. So I can play um, King Wensenansnenslalaslas or whatever the hell it is. In fact I know I'd enjoy that more than ever having to stomach anything Aerosmith related.

I think that tune has a 'c' in it doesn't it? AH well, sigh.

  • i want van halen edition that would kick more ass then something that kicks alot of ass

  • @Bobby McPresscott: I can Pay $50 bucks for a new Guitar hero thats arcadey with songs only picked for difficulty and nostalgia, or I can pay $170 for a more down to earth multiplayer Rock Band with downloadable songs that aren't all metal or classic rock. Don't get me wrong I like both. I'm sick of this 'One or the other' mentality. One fulfills my need to play in a band with my friends, the other is there when I want blast some metal and feel like a Rock God. Even though they are both Rhythm games based on playing an Instrument they aren't the same type of game.

  • @Bobby McPresscott: I don't understand....you're mad because this game makes you feel like shit?

  • @Bobby McPresscott:
Wait you have no friends, thats truly pathetic. Even complete losers can make friends, or where you that ass whole in school that tried to act cool and in turn made everyone hate you.

  • If it's something like $30 I'd consider it. I'm not paying any more for a glorified expansion though.

  • McWhertor why are you hating on Aerosmith? They are the best American rock band of their generation.

    I like Aerosmith...

The only thing I can think of that would make this game perfect would be if they included Revolution X in there as an unlockable bonus.

  • 1) current Aerosmith sucks
    2) Rock Band is better

  • How bout 5 Aerosmith songs... then alot of other artists. Better ones...

  • @Nickatiah:
Because most American Rock bands suck.

I want Guitar Hero: The Who

  • @boxofthegods: I don't have any friends, but that's because most people are either bad people or they aren't very bright.

  • @Markez: how dare you!

  • @Demaar: The non-Aerosmith tracks are going to be a small part of the game and are all bands that are some way tied in with Aerosmith, whether it is an influence on Aerosmith, a group that Aerosmith toured with, or a group that is influenced by Aerosmith.

@Rurik: You pretend that each person has the same music tastes. Maybe you like the playlist on Rock Band more than Guitar Hero, but others like the Guitar Hero playlist more than the Rock Band playlist. The overlap between the playlists is large enough that your generalization really doesn't have any merit. Personally, for most of the groups that are common I liked the song that was on GH better than on RB. I think One is much better than Enter Sandman, My Name Is Jonas is a better song than Say It Ain't So (granted part of that is I'm getting tired of hearing Say It Ain't So all the time at work), and Number of the Beast and Run For the Hills are close but I like the Number better. I would, however, have liked to have seen Epic on GH and something from The Clash on there that wasn't Should I Stay or Should I Go Now (while it's most popular, they ahve better songs, it just is more pop friendly). I did prefer Rock Band's choice to go with Won't Get Fooled Again, though, rather than The Seeker.

  • I'm guessing I'll be waiting for the price drop on this one.

  • ok...
Guns 'N' ROses basically got famous off of opening for aerosmith
    and THEY WERN'T EVEN MENTIONED
WHAT THE F*** IS THIS S***!??!?!
(please excuse my language as guns 'n' roses is my favorite band of all time and i hate to see aerosmith diss them like that...)

  • @DocBacca: You might be waiting a while. Music games take forever to take a price cut. Then again, considering there will be fewer groups to pay money to and the eagerness that Aerosmith pursued this with, perhaps the royalties and such for this game will not be as high.

  • @FANBOY of ceilings: actually im pretty sure number of the beast is on rock band...?

  • okay good.....atleast its not just all aerosmith....

kravitz and white stripes are actually not that bad...hmmm....do i smell Seven Nation Army?? One can only Hope!!!!

  • @boxofthegods: Or maybe the notion that not having friends makes one pathetic makes you pathetic? Do try to look at things from the other perspective, Gordon. D:

@Pezdispenser: I would only buy this game if Revolution X was included. Not kidding. XD

@Nickatiah: Good question, perhaps because his opinion is that they suck.

    @Markez: NOOOOOOOEL, NOOOOOOOEL!

  • @38dirtyapes: It could be that they are trying to keep some secrets. I think the less G&R out there, though, the better. God damn that voice annoys the hell out of me.

  • I love Aerosmith and would enjoy a game devoted to them... but not made by Neversoft. They ruined GH and it's time for people to remember that.

@Bobby McPresscott: Rock Band is awesome with or without friends, but that's really besides the point. The GH series was great until it got sold to Activision, and like was predicted, it turned into crap! It became even less of a simulation. It became long lengths of hammer-ons even though you can hear the guitarist strumming. The two player mode became who gets the better "attacks." It's fucking terrible, and Harmonix was right to get out of there.

  • Any presence of The White Stripes in a Guitar Hero game is enough to guarantee my purchase. Luckily, I'm already an Aerosmith fan.

@38dirtyapes: I'd say Guns 'n' Roses' back-catalogue is probably popular and varied enough to get to deserve their own version of Guitar Hero. I don't think they need to be attached to Aerosmith's version. Besides, not mentioning a band doesn't mean you're "dissing" them.

  • Ahhh, the comments have disappeared!!!

Anyway, # of Beast is a DLC song, I wasn't counting those as part of the set list.

  • I'd rather they just release more downloadable content. How about an album pack of each of the bands? I'd love to see some White Stripes love. Then again, I hope they don't just throw in their most well known songs... Seven Nation Army isn't exactly the most challenging song...

  • Why Activision? Why?

Why force me to buy yet another useless installment in a franchise I adore? I will get you back. Trust me.

My 360 just RRoD'd. Me sad cause I no play Rock Band any morez.

    FUCK THE WORLD!

All I have is my computer. And my dignity. I have that.

That will all change when this game is released.

  • @boxofthegods: I was that asshole who kept to himself because he shared no interests with anyone else, and while more than willing to get along with others, their distaste for his unfaltering desire to be who he was made them hate him, and in the end convinced him to stop bothering.

Does that seem familiar? If so it is because history tends to repeat itself and all you're doing now is the same thing I have been ignoring for years. I am good at video games, but I am not good at people. I am who I am, and because of that I prefer Guitar Hero. All I did in this topic is stress that there is definitely a market for Guitar Hero, and that just because you prefer Rock Band you don't get to decide which deserves to exist and which doesn't. I hate Activision for being stupid as much as the next person, but they are selling a product better suited for me in multiple ways and that is the one I will buy.

I will not buy a $170 product just so I can pretend to be as cool as everyone else. I'm going to buy the 50 dollar one I can have fun with. If the day comes that buying Rock Band suits me, then I will. To me it is that simple, but then I've never understood the concept of fitting in so I'm probably missing something.

  • Oh hells yes.

  • @Bobby McPresscott: Well, of course they're going to sell well with your demographic. Aerosmith fans and people without friends are one in the same.

  • I'm not big aerosmith fan but they do have quite a few major hits throughout the years. That and I still can't seem to get enough guitar hero, so, I say bring it on. I'll buy it.

  • White Stripes? Nooooo!!!!

I must not buy another GH game till GH IV.

  • @Adrock4: That's a stupid comment. Had it been a comment saying something to the likes of "*emo band here* and people who have no friends are one in the same" it would have at least been funny because that is the point of an emo band is that you have no friends and your life sucks.

  • What is it with people? If you don't like Aerosmith, then you have no reason to even care about this game, go read something else. Seems every article even remotely related to Rock Band or Guitar Hero becomes a showcase of how much people forget a very important fact:

Not everyone likes the same music as you.

Aerosmith doesn't suck, you just don't like them. Conversely, Aerosmith doesn't rock, you just like them.

If (Rhythm game X) is so much better than GH: Aerosmith, then why not go and play that instead of whining about a game you already know you don't care about?

  • @FANBOY of ceilings: Actually, Emo is just country music sans the redneck. Also, I don't think I've heard a new Emo band come out in years (this is for the best), but the Internet seems to have taken this word and twisted it (whats new)

  • I can't deny the fact that, even though I despise Activision, I'm still a Guitar Hero junkie.

  • No, seriously. I don't understand what's wrong with some of the people here.

This is an expansion. It has Aerosmith's name on it, but it's not -just- Aerosmith. Get over the title, seriously. That's like saying you would have never played GH3 because Slash was on the cover, and you're no fan of Slash. The game will have Aerosmith, but it won't JUST be Aerosmith.

And, yes. They're releasing this on a disc. A lot of people need to get over that fact, too. We all know that the makers of Rock Band are releasing all their content in the form of downloadable, weekly songs, using microstransactions. The makers of Guitar Hero very rarely put out downloadable songs, and are instead focusing on new installments. You get the same results either way.

And no one cares if you like Rock Band more. That has absolutely nothing at all to do with the topic. If you like Rock Band more, fine. Go play Rock Band. If you like Guitar Hero more, then go play that. Don't look for every little opportunity to insist that you're better than everyone else because of the kind of fake, plastic instrument that you like to sit down and play rock-star with.

And why are people now complaining about free DLC? Does that not seem ridiculous?

Also, I'm sorry to quite a few above posters that not everyone else has the same taste in music as you. They must all be wrong. I'll look in to changing their musical tastes to suit your needs.

    /end rant

  • Notice with all the bitching, people are saying they want GUITAR HERO: (insert band here). rather then Rockband (insert band here) LOL.

  • @Bobby McPresscott:

You're funny. Guitar Hero fails compared to Rock Band. Rock Band covers all genres defined under "Rock" including having a song for Emo kids.

  • If you hate Aerosmith, you don't like classic rock. It's that simple.

  • *sigh* Where's the love? If you want a few more songs then go ahead and keep buying GH. It really hasn't changed much and if you're going to buy RB for the guitar parts, then that's just as good I guess... I mean it can get terribly boring after awhile especially when those solos keep haunting you... waking you up in the middle of the night as you scream in agony as the tendons in your hands ache and plead for the madness to stop... phew... does that happen to anyone else?

  • @Fireblast: Yet I prefer it. Either your world is going to collapse or you are going to divert disaster by assuming I'm an idiot. For whatever Guttiar Hero fits my taste better. There are a few songs on Rock Band I wish I could play, but nowhere near enough to justify paying 170 dollars I don't have to buy instruments I don't need.

I have no ill feelings toward Rock Band whatsoever, I just like Guitar Hero more because it fits better for someone like me who happens to like a larger ratio of music in the GH series than in Rock Band, but more importantly someone who has no use for a 4 palyer game and not remotely enough money to afford it.

There are two choices. Accept that there are people like me with different tastes, or revert to assuming my opinions are based on ignorance. I did a lot of thinking to determine which series I eventually go with, and seeing as I won't have a new console anytime soon if I am going to buy one of two games with no DLC it is going to always be the one with more songs I like.

I have NO DOUBT that Rock Band is a FAR superior game for the purpose of multiplayer, but that purpose is not universal. To someone like me all the multiplayer aspect does is add a LOT to the cost and load you down with bulky peripherials you have no use for.

Rock Band is NOT the universal answer to pretending to play an instrument. Your preference over something does not override the opinion of everyone else, no matter how many high-fiving friends you have who agree.

  • @Bobby McPresscott: Activision's main demographic is people who are socially inept? That seems odd of them.

  • I own both Rock Band and GH (II, III) and other than my shoddy drum set breaking in four places (drumstick, green pad is rent in half, yellow pad is unresponsive, and pedal broke) I have enjoyed both. MY freind enjoys to play the drums so I end up playing mostly rock band, but personally I much prefer guitar hero (*becasuse I only do the guitar). I feel that guitar her's songs are much more fun than rock bands, not just because ofwhat they are, but also because of the higher difficulty level and fun solos. The lesser emphasis on hammer-ons in rock band( i can't even see where they are because they don't stand out that well) makes it less fun for me. Also the tendancy of rock band to stay on one note/chord for 20+ notes quite often (which I suck at) is much less enjjoyable than guitar hero's tendancy to move up and down the buttons( which is aperson al strenght)_

  • @Nickatiah: They're the best American Band period.

  • @Len Bias Cocaine Surplus: I'd already been considering the possibility of this, but if you can actually qualify the socially inept as a demographic now, then gaming really has turned into something else behind my back. There was a time when the term "gamer" was synonymous with being socially inept, but my sense of self worth was never shallow enough for me to care.

If Activision's focus is on the socially inept, then clearly they are the company for me. Call me a dreamer, but I like to imagine that if my intention were to have a social experience rather than a personal one that I would find something better to do than pretend to play guitar in front of people.

  • @Bobby McPresscott: Your soapbox speech makes me not want to have fun with my friends in the same way anymore.

  • I wouldn't mind a Guitar Hero with 50 Aerosmith songs. >.>
