Microtransactions Wii-style have already gone live, now that WiiWare has launched in Japan. While we knew that puzzler Mojipittan was going to feature pay-to-play DLC in the form of extra puzzles, the add-ons for Square Enix's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King were a bit mysterious. Fortunately, Siliconera knows the score, writing today that downloadable races, costumes and dungeons will be available for 100 to 300 Wii Points each. Can't wait to see what the full tally will be to download the fully featured game, given that the base version starts at 1500 Wii Points. That's going to be some entertaining math!

If I have to go down to the shop to buy wii points for a new costume, I may aswell just buy real clothes...
It does give that 200 wii points I always seem to have left over a purpose though
1-3 bucks for DLC? Sounds about right comparred to XBL. Now it's just a matter of how MUCH you get for your 1-3 bucks.
Why do I have to pay to pay for more things?
Wheee! We get to get nickled and dimed-again! $3 for a new skin? Man, that's absurd. My guess at a final price is $37.
im still studying japanese. but the text is something like... everymorning there is delicious yakitatePan. grilled bread.? uhm. help me out fellow "japanese" ^-^
I live in Alabama, thus this is appropriate.
I was all excited about Wii DLC but if it's just this stuff i'm extremely disappointed. I hope pay and play gets better or else we may have to just refer to it as play and pay and play for 5 minutes then pay and pay and pay and play till you get to where you need a sword and pay and pay.
I'm sure it's been said before, but gosh this game is pretty for a downloadable title.
@Knotan: “It's wonderful to wake up to the smell of delicious freshly-baked bread every morning.”
If we want to split hairs, the bread only seems delicious (based on the smell).
Looks lurvly though!!@Hion: Agreed!! now how the FUCK is it going to fit on the wii's measly 512mb harddrive??
@Afore Notation:
I'm so sorry.
hmmm no thanks no thanks.
@Torgen thinks AAA means "Costs $60": thank you mate :) im still studying. Going back to school in japan in 5 days.
@excel_excel: It's like 50MB. (200 blocks.)
I really hope Square doesn't apply their pay $1-$3 per race or outfit to FFXIII.
@Torgen thinks AAA means "Costs $60": cool thanks.
Must be some major compression going on there!
I'd rather not buy the nasty ugly little baby looking people. Don't know what they're called in the series, but the one in FF:CC Ring of Fates (Meeth) is so ugly and adds an "i" to the end of everything she says. It's so... blargh. God I hate them!
@TRT-X: Yeah but who knows man, they could be selling a $15 gimped game, and once you're immersed, they charge you a few bucks to unlock new dungeons and what not...before you know it, you've shelled out $50 for a Wii Ware title.
@ThisCharmingMan: Dungeons you don't get to go into. The dungeons and stuff you buy, does not allow you to play in. You send people to the dungeon. You spend the whole game building your city.
So I guess Nintendo is going in the "rip their customers off" direction with this one.
Well, if they're following the 360's lead, all the content will already be in the downloaded game, just locked off.
It depends how it works out. If I buy the game and essentially play it all the way through, and then can add on a few more hours worth for $10 that'd be ok. I'm still in wait and see mode on this one.
@Chef: Which is tantamount to fraud. Seriously people, don't buy into this, DLC is never worth it. You never get nearly your money's worth out of it. Vote with your wallet, don't buy shells. Do you honestly think that when a game like Ace Combat 6 comes out with dlc on day of release that you are getting a good deal? You are being stolen from. Open your eyes people.
Why can't they do this with SSBB.
Great. Nintendo finally decides to use the internet, but they choose the worst part of what the other consoles are doing w/it.
And here you guys said it was expensive.
Wait till you add all up. hehehe
Welcome to chibi FFXI, with 100% less grinding and lfg, and 200% more gardening.
Apparently SE's crappy version of DLC reflects on Nintendo!
@Black-Dog-Howls: Don't you dare disrespect gardening! Bitch about the grinding, complain about the stupid economy, and all those, but gardening is a good system...
Except that it takes a month to do it. ; ;
Any word if Nintendo proper has gotten its head out of its ass and come to the conclusion a hard drive might be a good idea if WiiWare catches on?
Nintendo, being market leaders, had a chance to crush this trend. I see they've gone the other way. Sigh.
Horse armour all over again. Awesome. I was already hesitant to swallow the $15 price tag, this clinches it.
@Sinfjotle: I didn't say anything bad about the gardening.
Fact: I'm a Harvest moon fan.
I just don't think I could handle what seems to be a Civilization/Sim City game from third person perspective with out the crazy stuff that goes along for the ride.
@Spartan1308: Nintendo has nothing to do with this. SE are the ones milking your wallet. Pay attention.
@ErskinPig:Nintendo, being market leaders would be complete and total idiots to tell people "No Microtransactions on WiiWare, full game or GTFO." Surely your smart enough to understand why, correct?
@MantisDragon: Proper SD card support would be more viable. Add ons never, ever sell well.
@Foxstar Sixtail: A burgler who has a cloak of invisibility would be a complete and total idiot if he said "No, I'm not going to be moral or fair and I'm going to use this cloak to take whatever I want from people" Surely YOU'RE smart enough to understand why, correct?
I guess I can start collecting my nickels and dimes again. xD
I know I'm in the minority here, but I will never pay for EXTRA content in a game I've already purchased. It's only going to get worse if people keep paying for this crap. You will continue to get incomplete games that are gimped and unsatisfyingly short. I want to pay once for the complete gaming experience. Not keep paying, and paying, and paying, for what the creators held back or hid somewhere in the code on my game disc.
On the other side of the coin, I applaud creators who aren't afraid of user-generated content, especially when it can be shared between users for FREE. Kudos UT3.
@excel_excel: Wait for the e3 Announcement. TWO big things for the Wii will be announced. And it WON'T be games either. I'll give you a hint. They are two things the 360 has.
They keep toucihng on the subject of "dungeons" and yet I do not know if we can play against enemies, or if it is just a "build city" thing.
I seriously hope this DLC for Crystal Chronicles ends up being a success. It might give Nintendo the motivation to add downloadable content to their other games. Yeah, I know they've already said they weren't planning on adding any more Brawl characters or stages via download, but minds can change.
Fucking DLC I hate this fucking generation.
@GhostWhoWalks: I'm with you. Besides, the prices are extremely reasonable.
I'm willing to pay for real DLC, like what Bioware offered for Neverwinter Nights. More modules, with new environments and voiceovers? Yes, please!
But apart from maybe Bethesda, nobody seems interested in having their DLC contain, well, content.
O.o you can buy real clothes for 1-3 dolars in brazil .. cheap/ugly ones but I'm sure the online ones are going to be just as ugly hahaha.
Ugh. Ten years ago, the races would have been included with the game.
@TheEngineer: Rocking the Goggles: Actually, its really not that bad here. Some of the people really need to open their eyes--well, A lot of the people do, but my generation is a huge improvement--but overall its not nearly as bad as TV/movies portray it. Its actually really beautiful here too.
Having said that, yes, I am definitely leaving this state before I settle down, but that is mainly so that I can get a real winter with real snow. Also, my vote not being ultimately futile would be nice.
I'm not complaining, playing the game as is is usually great, if they want to add more, great to them, and if it interesting, I'll buy it! Otherwise, cool.
@ATimson: That has me relatively interested in what they will do with these new updates planned for Mass Effect. Should be great.
@excel_excel: I thought that too, unless the game only lasts a few hours. then it would make sense, and also not merit purchase.
@Roto13: Ten years ago there were no downloadable titles for N64, PS1, or Saturn, so this game would never have been made.
