The third and final map to be included in the upcoming Legendary map pack for Halo 3 should be familiar to fans. Known as "Blackout," the map is a remake of Halo 2's "Lockout" and joins "Avalanche" and "Ghost Town" in the forthcoming downloadable. The official Bungie site has a quick Q&A with the "Blackout" design team in which much hilarity ensues. Ha ha. There are also pictures!
Legendary Map: Blackout [Bungie]

Comments
I don't feel the need to pay so much for old maps, if they release so many older maps then they should be free.
YAwn!!! i'm so over Halo already....
They had me at Sidewinder. But this just makes the legendary pack so much more awesome. Time to buy some points..
@JN64Lover: They will be free. If you don't want to pay, then wait.
I'll be buying them.
Man, Halo 3 really never had a map as good as the three best in Halo 2 (Lockout, Midship, and Ivory Tower), so it's great to see this one back. I even like the new coat of paint. Nice job.
This upcoming map release is looking damned good these days.
Wait, so they're not even original maps, just rehashes of old ones!?! Jesus, just when I thought they'd taken the DLC con as far as it could go...you know what's coming. Here it is:
NO DLC UNLESS IT'S FREE!
@mind in rewind: Have you seen that confirmed anywhere?
As far as I know that hasn't been confirmed or even talkd about.
@AGROS: Me too. I haven't played it since the before the last map pack was released....
@liquid_kore: No it hasn't been officially confirmed but every single Bungie map pack has become free eventually so it's probably safe to assume this one will be free as well.
@ErskinPig: They aren't just rehashes of old maps, but rehashes of some of the best maps the Halo series has had. So it's worth it to me.
@ErskinPig: Yeah, right. The fact of the matter is, DLC costs developers to make, and it costs Sony and Microsoft bandwidth costs to host it on their servers. If they didn't charge for it, they'd lose money, and no company will willingly do that. Sorry to break it to you.
Did you hear that Mario Kart Wii is going to have old maps in it (just like Mario Kart DS)? Oh nnnnnnoooooooooooooes!
So much whining.
This is dumb, I'm sick of remakes. I want some new maps.
i thought lockout all ready was back in halo 3. was it guardian or epitaph, i can't remember the name, but it seemed like a spiritual successor. so now it seems that there are two of these maps?
At first glance you wouldn't think that was lockout but the new paint job looks great. Also with some minor forge tweaking I think this can be a great infection map.
A night map! And a remake of my favorite Halo 2 map! Sweet.
But, no thanks, I'm not gonna spend money in such expensive things, I'll wait to download em' for free.
A remake of lockout! Sidewinder and Lockout back in tha game, so excited!
@kashraz: It's Guardian. And while Guardian and Lockout may look similar they do play surprisingly different.
I'm not sure but I think Blackout may be the first multiplayer map in Halo with a night setting. Which is about time!
3 maps only? That's disappointing. I'll get it when it's free.
@KingDavid73: Guardian was close, but still not quite the same as Lockout, more curvy geometry in it for one.
I'm not surprised its another remake, but thats not a big problem either; as far as I'm concerned below a certain size all FPS deathmatch levels can basically be considered remakes/rehashes of ones from older games, there are only so many basic room layouts and such that work for multiplayer DM. Halo 2 had 2 or 3 maps that could easily be considered rehashes of Marathon 2 maps, Foundation is just the most obvious (Thunderdome), but since so few Halo players have played Bungie's older FPS games it went unnoticed for the most part.
@Stormrider: Well they've certainly got you fooled. You've obviously never been a PC gamer. Still, I've made my point enough times recently, so provided you don't make any further ill-informed comments, I'll let the matter slide. ;)
That comment should have been @kashraz, sorry ;)
Hooray! Lockout was the best map in H2.
I thought Guardian was fine as a Lockout replacement. Woulda preferred a new map.
@liquid_kore: You're correct. My bad.
@DaiMacculate: It's still veerry similar. I would like a new map, but this is so different in style from all the other maps I'm still excited.
@ErskinPig: Yeah, you've made your radical Anti-DLC point on many posts, and most of us still don't give a damn. We're not agreeing, we're not disagreeing; we just don't care.
So yeah, probably a waste of your time to continue making that point, in general, over and over. Its not going to dissuade anybody from buying DLC for games they like and consider the DLC to be of good value for. There is a huge difference between stuff like this and, for example, Bullet Witch DLC ;)
Holy crap Iove this map :DDDDDD
@DaiMacculate: Perhaps not, but then none of the comments here are of any consequence to anything at all are they?
I'd love to download this... If my xbox weren't sitting in some back room at the repair center.
Lockout was my all time favorite halo map. I just hope this version isn't so dark it affects it a whole lot.
@DaiMacculate: Oh, and please only speak for yourself. Don't speak on behalf of 'most of us'. ;)
@ErskinPig: Hey, I'm just trying to save you some time, feel free to keep making points that fall on deaf ears, no skin off my back. I didn't say they were of no consequence, just that most of us don't care, and if anything repetition will just make us care less.
In a nutshell, save it for when the DLC really is total garbage, you won't have to wait long for another story like that ;)
Umm, I said I was not going to pay for the new map pack, but now I might. Stupid Bungie.
@Demonbird: Hey, mine too.
@ErskinPig: I'm just calling it like I see it buddy, me and Stormrider aren't the first to think your point is meaningless, sure some agree with you but again, in my anecdotal observation you're in the minority here.
Thats the last I'll say on it; I'm not trying to fight with you. :)
Reminds me of a MP map in Sin.
@DaiMacculate: Indeed; I totally agree here.
@ErskinPig: Your point has been refuted by tens of people here. It's just silly. No one except a few people that idealize PC gaming and have short memories agree with you.
@DaiMacculate: Ultimately, I don't care whether people agree with me or not. I just express my opinion and hope people see the sense in what I'm saying, but if they don't I'm still going to express it regardless. ;)
I too, call it like I see it, and the way I see it DLC is, by and large, a con and a means of exploitation.
That's the last I'll say on it. For now. :P
Nice maps, Just as I am getting back into Halo 3. I just hope theres some more playlists.
When i heard that there was a spiritual successor to Lockout (guardian) in Halo 3, I was pretty excited, but like many of you have said, it doesn't quite play the same. Glad to see this old standby (no pun intended) back in its original form. Thanks bungie.
..... but
WE PAID FOR IT ALREADY WHEN WE SHELLED OUT $50 FOR HALO 2... this one should be on the house guys.
Well as i stated in the other Halo map post. Sidewinder was not enough to get me back into halo...but lock out definatly is. Oh i cannot wait
This map sucked in Halo 2. There are several others I'd rather see redone if they aren't going to make new stuff.
I'm ready and willing to pay for those old maps remade for Halo 3. I don't care if it takes them three hours or three months to make, and I don't care if they host them or if they are magically floating through the air waiting for me to throw money at them.
Just about all the original Halo 3 maps are horrible. So bring on the remakes.
EA needs to start taking micro transaction tips from Bungie. Who knew you could sucker so many people in to buy a multiplayer game without any good maps and then force you to pay $10-15 for map pack bundles that should have shipped with the game. Puts the whole buying guns thing to shame.
I blame all the kids on the bungie forums demanding old maps back. Really? You'd really rather have an old map that you could STILL PLAY ONLINE IN HALO 2 than a new and original map that might be better than a map that was developed for a game FOUR YEARS AGO?
It looks great and I'm sure it's fine, but I feel like Standoff, from the Heroic Map Pack, is one of the best MP maps I've ever played in Halo. It makes me sad to wonder what we have missed out on because everybody demanded a remake of Lockout. Especially if I am going to pay $10 for it. And I will. Because I wipe my ass with $10. But seriously. Let's start demanding Originality instead of demanding that they regurgitate content.
Am I the only one able to see the irony there? People are pissed that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is so similar to the first Vegas. So they get on the ubisoft forums and bitch and moan. Then they jump over to bungie.net and demand a remake of Chiron TL-34. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
@KilgoreTrout__XL: Zanzibar isn't on your top 3? you're insane =)
Wow. Why does everyone cry about DLC not being free? If you don't want to pay for it, then don't buy it. It's almost always free later, so just wait it out. Maybe I'm just a sheep, but if I like a game, and I want to support the developer... I buy the DLC. It's not like they force you to buy it.
Hooray for more rehash!
Another excuse for sniperfags to camp and snipe again!
@ErskinPig: I agree with you. If suckers stopped paying for new maps that will be free soon enough, maybe we could get a complete game instead of 3/4 of one. Or God forbid go back to the days when new content was added for free to add value to a game and/or reward the consumers who made the game a success in the first place. Most of this greed is coming from publishers. The developers, the people who devoted lives into acutally MAKING the game, usually are all too eager to give the new content away for free.
