360 owners keen for Call of Duty 4's upcoming map pack are up to their wahzoos in information. Release dates, pricing, the works. But PS3 and PC owners? They're in the dark. No longer! Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has posted on his PR blog that the PS3 map pack should be ready "approximately" 21 days after the 360 pack's release (ie April 24). PC users, you'll have to make do with this:
Right now plans for the PC version are unannounced but we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen.Let's hope "logistics" doesn't mean some way of making PC owners pay for it, because that dog just ain't gonna hunt.

Thats good. I've been waiting for this information, like everyone else.
"logistics"=how the fuck are we gonna make PC gamers pay for this.....
Timed exclusives for dlc of games that are already multi-platform = BOO!
man i remember they days that consoles got gipped and pc got everything man i miss those days and so does my PC...:( on a side note YAY NEW MAPS
I can't help but feel I'm being swindled out of ten dollars. But hot damn am I pumped for new maps.
WTH I'm tired of this "PS3 later than 360" for patches and all. I know sometimes they can't do anything about it, as it is technically hard to accomplish, but...
sigh.
I've still not bought this game, despite it's acclaim, because it remains one of the most expensive games on Steam. $69.95. I can buy pretty much EVERY SINGLE GAME iD HAS EVER MADE FOR THE SAME PRICE!
I think you overestimate the significance of this game on the PC Activision. People simply don't think it's worth that premium, even if you believe your own hype.
i hope PC owners have to pay for the maps!
@See Lynn? Fanboy!: i know right!!
this is F to the UP
Umm... April 24th? Too close to GTA IV's release. I'll be too occupied with that to care about COD4 anymore.
Yes, I don't why the PS3 is getting screwed over all the time. I own both and it's annoying when I can get something on my 360 but have to wait for the PS3 version (like Rock Band tracks to name just one thing).
Oh, and IW - good luck if you're gonna try to charge for those maps on the PC. You're gonna need it.
@c00ler_dood: You've got that the wrong way round - you should be demanding the maps for free, not insisting that PC owners also pay.
@c00ler_dood: Why?
@ca$h: You buy the same games for both?
@jun581: I don't mind timed exclusives so much, but for some reason this just seems silly. They are map packs, it's not like holding the releases to come out the same time is going to cause some huge delay like it could for the actual game release.
For some reason I'm not that pumped for more CoD4 maps. I'm more curious about the new TF2 maps.
@slomo788:
No, sometimes I get a 360 game, sometimes a PS3 game. I've got Rock Band for the PS3, and CoD4 for the 360. I still don't like seeing these wide time gaps between identical content release.
@slomo788: seconded
@YOBNAFgniliec: yea i agree. This is actually beyond silly. it's a map pack for pete sake. I mean it's not like the game flopped on the ps3. it did pretty damn good in sales. *sigh*...o well, i guess it gives me a little over 3 weeks to find those PSN cards i keep hearing about.
PC players get the maps AFTER 360 and ps3?
whaaaaaaaaaaa...............!?!??!
Logistics? I'll tell you how to bring the maps to PC.
1) Make the maps.
2) Release them.
@ErskinPig: It's $50 in the US, I don't know where you live...
Damn Activision
Just dollar signs in their eyes
Fuck the consumer
@ca$h: You should have done that the other way around so you have compatibility with GH.
Once again, it can't be reiterated enough, most Dev's want to give it out for free; blame your MSFT and Sony.
However, the mentality is probably waning a bit seeing how the Devs do make some money off the map packs.
Paying for maps on the PC?, thats a knife to the throat to a FPS geared company.
@BenKenobi88: It's over a hundred dollas U.S here is Aus at retail... we so lucky!
@IntelSilver: Yo and me both! 3 weeks is just messed right the fuck up. Infinity Ward... you are really starting to lose my patience with you.
@BenKenobi88: $69.95 is the price on Steam, which lives on the internet.
@BenKenobi88: I just checked my steam account - it's over 80$ U.S for it over steam for Aussies...
YEAH! new maps for people to skip
If they are going to do something like that, why not just wait to release them both at the same time. I'm very annoyed with Infinity on this, we had to wait how long for the patch compared to the 360 and now they are doing it with the maps.
@Tuggie: My guess is M$ lined their pockets a bit
So this is what's it come to.
Shit that has been free FOREVER on the PC, now these companies need to work out the "logistics" of charging people for it just because console lemmings will buy anything that's put in front of them.
Great. You know if these companies are going to continue to fuck longtime, loyal PC gamers, how about they just do it all the way and stop making the games. I'd rather have them be honest with me and say "You're not making enough money for us anymore so we're moving on" rather than "We love you, we're just not IN LOVE with you."
@Balance_In_Life (PSN): BAH!!! I ment, "I'm really starting..."
They might feel more charitable towards the PC audience if their game weren't being pirated by a large portion of that group.
@syl1985: Hold on, does that mean they charge different prices for games on Steam depending on where you live in the world? Surely not, I thought the prices were fixed & all you paid is the American price according to whatever the exchange rate is at time of purchase. :S?
????
@Spartan1308: Yet for some reason they wonder why people pirate games. It's a vicious cycle people...
I'm so happy to wait the extra weeks because... oh wait I'm not. It would be nice if they offered it cheaper but that happening would mean the world would end. Either way i'm tired of this shit. I don' think I'm going to buy the maps. Great game and all but i'll save it for Socom. I would've said Bad Company but i don't want to buy difference kinds of grenades and who knows certain pieces of maps. :/
Ha! As if PC owners would actually pay for stuff!
Silly execs...
Well, I for one cant wait for this map pack!
The COD4 disc still hasnt left my tray since It got released...
Unlucky PS3 owners though, no idea why they have to delay a map pack
@Tuggie: I'm betting that they are catering to the 360 b/c it has sold so many more copies on the 360. There's no need to make people wait on one system while they're working on converting the maps for another. This may have something to do w/the infrastructure. They may have to do extra work or use their own servers to support the content on PSN. Consider this one of the costs of getting PSN for free. No matter what the issue is, I doubt IW just wants to bully PS3 players around. Get Netflix, watch some Blurays. That's what I'm doing w/my PS3.
@YOBNAFgniliec: Yes... That really pisses me off... Come to think of it, though, I've been pissed off a lot today... I think I'm just pissed off today. I should wait a few days to comment again, then I'll only be slightly irritated... Hmm...
In any case, I don't care about COD4 right now... By the time I have this game, all DLC will be out for the game, and I won't have to wait for anything. By that time, GotY editions will be out containing all of the content they want me to download.
@ErskinPig: According to Steam, it costs more money to send data to different parts on the internets.
They only started to fuck PAL regions up the ass around The Orange Box release; where previously I was an avid steam supporter I am currently underwhelmed.
@shadow300z: I understand where you're going, but they didn't sell COD2 maps to PC players as far as I know. Yet tons of people decided to pirate COD4. People didn't pirate COD4 b/c they expected IW to charge for new maps, they did it b/c they didn't want to pay and it was easy for them to avoid paying. So who knows, maybe they won't bother making COD6 for PC. IW didn't start a "vicious cycle" but they can certainly put an end to it.
On one hand I don't want to be greedy but on the other hand all the pc version got was a reskin of an existing map so far. Seeing as a majority of the default maps were ass (Which is why I stopped playing) I don't think it's too unreasonable to expect this without a $10+ fee in patch 1.6...
Hell I don't even think the PC version got the cool Grenade and Airstrike cam the 360 version got...
I can wait 21 days...for the info where to kill spawn campers, best sniping spots, but I doubt I'm gonna fork over $15 to PSN for this.
I said this before:
Not enough content sooner = doom to your title.
My attention span is past the Prestige mode levels. And for all this playing (1-2 days in CoD4 time), all we get are four freakin maps, we gotta pay for? And later than the RRoD crowd? Are we CASH COWS to you Infinity Ward and Stab-ya-in-da-bActivision?
It's just the "the free ones gets the lowest priority" mindset. Course being a PC gamer with CoD4 it kind of stings a little, but as long as it's free I can't complain too much I guess.
@syl1985: Bmmm, that was about the same time Valve apparently handed over hosting duties to Nvidia. Perhaps becoming a victim of their own success.
I heart my PS3 but damn this delay shit is getting out of hand...
Anyway, for those who aren't happy about having to pay $10 for new maps look at this way. When Gamestop sells a used copy of a game the dev/publisher will never see a dime from that sale . By charging money for a map pack they at least have a chance to see some money come back to them through that used copy. Especially for online heavy games. And yes, I know there are holes to this theory but it makes me feel better about it okay?
@Ganglor: lol.. i see what your saying...
but consider this, if 10$ for 3 maps is basically stealing from gamers, and used games are basically stolen from developers, and everyone keeps upping the ante, doesn't that lead to anarchy, and the detriment of everyone on both sides.
I don't like DLC, because it is basically stealing.
