Shame on us, getting all excited about
Persona 4 when
Persona 3 FES still hasn't come out yet. Atlus has been busy releasing tiny webisodes from the upcoming updated version of P3, in which the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad tries to unravel the mystery of a day that seems to keep repeating itself. It's like Groundhog Day, only with more kids shooting themselves in the head. Hit the jump for the complete set of six shorts, featuring the three C's: cutscenes, combat, and more cutscenes.

Can it be? Are they really giving up their guns? You'd figure after months of shooting themselves in the head on a nightly basis they'd have developed an addiction or something.

See? They're still itching to go out of fight. You can't just stop doing that sort of thing. They're like head shooty junkies.

I'd say something witty here about them going right back to fighting, but I can't think about anything other than the music when I watch this clip. It's just so awesome. I loves it.

A cutscene of the more mysterious, animated fashion.

And cue Bill Murry! Sure, they've got the date wrong, but other than that it's basically the same thing.

Why, Oh why did you only just release Persona 3 in europe, yet you have to tug at my heartstrings by releasing this straight away in america and japan straight away after? why Atlus?? Why do you reward me and then hurt me?
Before I watch these, I just want to check: Are they only for people who've beaten the original game so far? IE: They're part of the expansion plot or no?
I don't want to ruin anything for myself.
@excel_excel: Reward you? You're barely getting Persona 3. We got the original game last year. Japan got the Special Edition last yeah. And now we're getting the special Edition when you've barely got the game. Hate to say it, but you just got screwed over altogether. I feel for you, and all of Europe.
I believe the fifth one is bugged, at least for me: making it all the more mysterious.
Questions abound. What happened to the main character? Why is Aigis all stripped down? Who's Metis? Why did Ken get slashed in the eye?
Thank God there's less than a month to go for this game.
@devomania: For truth. It's going to be delicious.
Is that Junpei guy the same voice actor who does Ed Elric from FullMetal Alahcmist? Becuase that's just eight shades of awesome.
Jesus Christ, I want this so much. I hate being in Europe because the original version of P3 is just sitting there on shelves now, laughing at me saying "IT'S SECOND BEST OR NOTHING MOTHERFUCKER!"
Ugh, I'm gonna have to drown my sorrows in Brawl or something OH WAIT.
Well in that case I guess I'll go play Rock BaWAIT.
Think I'll just self harm.
Is Persona 4 on the PS2?
@Bernard McGraw: God that was embarassing. Alahcmist? Allahchemist? I'm keeping that.
I'd say something witty here about them going right back to fighting, but I can't think about anything other than the music when I watch this clip.
Something about Mara in the battle would have been fabulous. XD If you missed what's so special about the Persona Aigis is summoning, take a long and hard look at it. :P
Please tell me there's an option to turn off the VA. It's cringe-worthy. Text only option, please!
@Bernard McGraw: Is that the new Muslim potion-making game that's coming out in Japan this fall?
On topic, FES is gonna be liek teh ub4r awesum. Although Aigis's voice still annoys me a little. Now I just need to decide whether I'm going to start the entire game over with the FES content first or just do the add-on story.
I'm leaning towards the latter at the moment.
Man it depresses me that only five people have commented here. XD
Well, at any rate, yeah, these cut scenes are all from the Expansion story which takes place after the end of Persona 3.
Lookin to be stellar.
I stand corrected, twelve comments!
@Justice7541: I made the word, you made the concept. It's gonna happen. We're in this together now.
@Mokai: Long. Hard. Look.
Subtle? ;)
@Polywhirl
> Persona 3 FES contains an enhanced version of the original game, loaded with additional new quests and events, Personas, cutscenes, a weapon synthesis system, the ability to change your characters' clothes, and a hard play mode.
@Count_Elmdor
I believe it comes with most televisions as standard "mute" or may appear as a little speaker with a line through it.
Aigis' voice has emotion! I guess that's a continuation from her transition at the very end of Persona 3 (during the whole game, she spoke with a robotic tone and at the last scene, she started crying and started speaking with emotion). Good move, Atlus!
The voice acting for the expanded story sounds amazing so far... It makes me want to play the US version even more.
@onidavin: Damn, I've been discovered! To the bunker!
@Polywhirl: Breaking my balls dude, your breaking ma balls
@Caduceus: Yeah, I know what FES is. I just haven't beaten Persona 3 yet. And since it includes the expansion pack, I wanted to know if those trailers had scenes from after the game was already beaten. I guess they do. Can't watch 'em then, I guess.
@Justice7541:
Now I'm kind of glad I never got very far in persona 3, only about 12 or so hours that I'll be gladly replaying when fes comes out.
ARGH. Tomorrow I'm going to buy either Persona 3 or No More Heroes. I kind of want P3 more but the crazy dream of the idea that Europe might someday get FES is really fucking me over ¬_¬
@devomania:
I thought it was fairly obvious. Do I have to mark this as spoilers? Nah, I don't think I will.
He dead.
Speaker with a line through it... don't be a jackass. I'd like to enjoy the music without the horrible VA. It doesn't seem so unreasonable that it'd be an option.
@TheEngineer: Kirbytheslayer is awesome.:
P4 is 100% coming to the PS2 in Japan. No word yet on whether or not it'll see a US release. I've seen forum arguments where some take the stance that by the time Atlus would try to bring it stateside, Sony wouldn't sign off on the release, as they're trying to get people to buy more PS3s.
On the other hand, I want people who say that to burn in a fire for crushing my dim hope.
Others argue that there are still PS2 releases scheduled 'till at least November of this year (which I can't personally confirm). It took them about a year to release P3 in North America - P3:FES took them less than three months. Personally, I'm crossing my fingers and any other appendage I can twist around another that we'll see P4 get another stellar localization.
<3 you, Atlus. Don't let us down.
I was really excited about Persona 3 FES until I found out its like 100 hours long or something. I don't have time for that.
April 22nd is just too far away.
@Bernard McGraw: Yes, Junpei is voiced by the same guy as Edward Elric from FMA. I forget his name off the top of my head.
@Stormrider: Vic Mignogna, also known as the anime voice-acting Whore of Babylon.
All hail Mara.
I tested the English translation of FES and actually recorded some of the videos for the website (I think some of those are mine above?).
Considering I don't even have a PS2 and had only vaguely heard of Persona, I really enjoyed the game. The voice acting can be a bit cheesy at times, but overall it's fine. A lot would be lost if you turned it off.
One thing I couldn't stand was the music, though! There's only a limited selection of music, so it gets VERY repetitive after a while. One bonus though: in dungeons you can tell Fuka to change the music track, from a selection of 4 songs. I believe this was present in the original Persona 3.
But fortunately you can disable music entirely, which I recommend!
Anyhow, if I had a PS2 I would definitely buy FES. I quit working at Atlus, so I'm not an Atlus fanboy speaking here :)
Heh, all of us who've been really REALLY waiting for this already know the plot and everything. A bit of a spoiler here, but not really, but that animated sequence with Aegis (I refuse to spell it Aigis!!!) fighting everyone is the opening sequence for Episode Aegis. All of us drooling over FES already knew that a long time ago and know it's significance already though... Man I can't wait till this hits!
Sold, I'm so getting this game!
@Count_Elmdor: This option was in the original Persona 3 as well. It'll probably be in the same place (Options Config), so rest assured.
Do the Persona games carry on after each other, or is it more Final Fantasy where each game is completely different? I'll probably buy a PS2 for this game either way.
@RPGZero: Don't believe their lies!
I got through the game in 60 hours, and that was probably with 15 hours of screwing around. You can really get through it in like 40-50 if you plug it. I think those 100 hour people are the completionists who want to get every persona, I settled for something like 50%.
Do it.
@ ThreeLeafIvy: Thanks for the info. Nothing will stand in my way of enjoying this, now.
@lazyartist: A bit of both. They all seem to take place in the same world but their stories are completely independent from one another. The Velvet room and it's inhabitants appear in each installment, though its existence and connection throughout the series remains unexplained.
In short, yes, you can love Persona 3 and understand it without having played any of the other games. :)
@Mokai: Thanks alot, that's good to know ^_^ I'll probably pick up the FES version if/when it gets released in Europe.
