North American gamers may not be getting a boss "steel" colored PlayStation 3 and DualShock 3 like the Japanese, but they are getting a solid limited edition release for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The premium package for Konami's tactical espionage action freak out contains the following stuff. Sorry, no Old Snake fake mustache accessory included.
- Collectible metal box
- Bonus Blu-ray disc with two "making of" documentaries, four chapters of the graphic novel and Metal Gear import soundtrack
- $85 price tag
And if you pre-order it now, GameStop promises you an "exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 art book" at the time of purchase. Not bad, I suppose, but not something I see myself sprinting to my nearest franchise location with an eighty-five dollar bill in hand. They still make those, right?
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition [GameStop - thanks, Lukasz!]

Comments
thats not too bad, considering you get an actual book.
preorder #270209, gogogogo!!!
only 4 chapters of the book?
Package is good but I find the price a tad high...
So are all Blu-Ray Disks readable by any Blu-Ray player built anywhere or is there still some Region Locking?
I know that PS3 for the most part doesnt have Region Lock on Blu-Ray Games but is it the same for movies?
It's been confirmed that we aren't getting the STEEL colored system?
I love MGS but I am waiting on the DVD pre-order.Metal Boxes are cool, and the soundtrack will be hot. I can live without them.
The streak continues with another high profile game getting a massively underwhelming "Limited Edition" release for the US. Metal (or faux metal) case? Check. Half assed making of DVD with random other crap thrown on? Check. I guess they threw us a curveball with the preorder art book which you'll never, ever see if you actually preorder it, if everyone has the same luck of Gamestop preorder bonuses that I do.
Pretty lame special edition, if you ask me. But hey, it's still something.
$85 !?
And here I thought the DMC4 CE was pushin' it at 80 bones. Regardless, I'll wait on an actual press release from Konami to "officially" announce this...not that I don't doubt the information, but I think the hit would go over slightly more smoother once I hear it from Kojima or the company itself.
What...no probs for my tip???
@GUNDAM-RX-78-2:Blu-Ray Discs have regions.
Region code
A Americas; East and Southeast Asia.
B Africa, Europe, Oceania; Middle East; French territories; Greenland.
C Central and South Asia; Mongolia, Russia, and People's Republic of China.
So import wisely.
Yes they do still make the 85 dollar bill. It still has clinton (bill not hillary) smoking on it it surrounded by hookers too!
MGS4 by itself is the only special edition I need.
Normally, I would like to jump on this. But seeing as MGS2 and 3 had their respectable "Substance" and "Subsistence" editions released later on, I don't see this as much of a special edition to jump on now with the hope of another special edition MGS4 to be released.
Any idea if Canada gets the pre-order bonus at eb-games (I've never seen a gamestop in Canada). I usually ask the employees there and they get a dumbfounded look on their face like I just asked them about quantum pysichs so I sigh and walk away.
I'm getting it. But I'm a Metal Gear Solid freak.
@DragonSphere: The high cost probably comes from the metal case it comes in. Still expensive.
@OGHowie:
Yea, that's news to me o.o;
That was going to be my one excuse to get one ._. I don't need fancy colors or whatnot, but I'd like my big heavy thing to come with the game guaranteed to make it fun o.o
*85 is a little steep for my pocket. I didn't get DMC4 LE only because I didn't want the anime (I would have easily shoveled $70 for a LE a sku without the anime), but this only has some digital chapters and interviews... I think I'll pass. Soundtrack is cool, but not worth $25 more (which I just realized is nearly half another game! geez). I'm a fan of the series... But I suppose I am not THAT big of a fan.
Yay for awful spelling on my part! Dammit Firefox your suppose to warn me about this shit!
Has there been any confirmation on the game that comes with the actual bundle? I hope it's the exact same kind you buy retail, and not just the disk tossed in a sleeve or something dumb, it's happened before.
Well, I need this. Even if a "remixed" version of the game comes out, I like having the originals. I want this in all of it's glory, so limited edition it is for me.
Good thing they utilized that extra Blu Ray and threw all those extras in. Wonder if the documentaries will be in HD.
considering i already spent $600 to play this game, $85 is sounding pret-ty good.
Damn I was getting all excited to buy this. But 85$? I'll just stay with the 60$ version.
If that version came with the ps3 bundle I would be more inclined to do this.
Well to me this game is what Halo 3 was to many other people. I will gladly pay this price for what I hope to be one of the greatest games I have ever played. I am a complete MGS fanboy and I'll be there on April 1st preordering my Limited Edition whilst hopefully receiving my Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD and Metal Gear Online beta key.
Hm... If the Soundtrack was not on the blue-ray disc, then perhaps. The soundtracks are usually worth the dough. Making of stuff is shit, metal books are worth shit. And as far as "exclusive art books" go, the last two I can think of from Gamestop, namely those of Assassin's Creed and Devil May Cry 4, were tiny as hell. If it was sized more like the bonus art book for Soul Calibur 2, then maybe.
Not willing to drop the extra twenty bucks here, either. Not yet.
DO WANT
I rather have the "steel" version of the PS3.
This definitely does not mean there won't be an Insistence, Consistence, or whatever-nce version of the game, and it's not something I actually look forward to.
Bah, just give me the game, and I'll be happy for a while.
nothing compared to the $600 investing in it. XD
@Hugoku: Metal Gear Solid 4: Impotence.
those Pillsbury dough-boy soldiers are the personification of intimidation :) haahahahah
Typically I don't go in for the collector or limited editions unless necessary but for as big as this game is both in release and the MG saga I might just invest in it.
i agree, the limited edition is kind of lame. :/
I hope that the artbook isn't only for gamestop. Im' tired of having to go there for these special extras. I hope amazon has it. I save myself about 4 bucks. Which adds up quickly
I've got mine preordered. I paid $600 to play this and Final Fantasy XIII so I'm goin all out on this one!
Limited Editions... AKA WEGOTSASTEELBOOK!.
Heck $85 for the limited edition is cheaper than the $100 Japanese price tag, plus you get an extra Sound track CD and Art Book (hopefully it's not cheaply made... OMG the Smash Brother Gamestop tournament wrestling trophies makes me worry), both are not included in the Japanese version of the LE.
I still wonder if the contents of the pre-order DVD with the normal version will already be in the LE version Blu-ray, but heck, consider this LE of MGS4 bought.
Hard for me to say this, but good job Gamestop/EB =)
@Hugoku:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Incontinence
@Vidril:
If your just now buying a ps3 and you spend 600$ for it your either retarded or getting ripped off.
Aw man, what about us crazy Europeans? What do we get? A stinkin' GT5 demo bundle :-(
Damn it. I already pre-ordered the normal version at a GameStop near my home. Now that I'm back in college, I won't be able to get over there to change the pre-order...
Augh. But for me, who's a Metal Gear freak, I'm definitely wanting this. Besides, it said it comes with the sound track, so I won't have to go around searching the interwebs for it... >_>
If you think about it, it's not a terrible deal, though. You get a sound track ($10?), Two making-of disks ($5?), four issues of the graphic novel ($5-10?, though I don't know how large an issue is...) plus the artbook pre-order bonus. Add in the additional shipping costs for the larger, heavier metal cases, and it about evens out.
If the art on the box is purty then I might just consider but then again it's Metal Gear Solid 4... Snake gonna go bye bye after this so I might as well make it special and get the Limited Edition.
If the art on the box is pretty than I might consider but then again there's probably gonna be no more Snake afterwards so I might just get it. xD
I was hoping there would be some content like the secret theater in MGS3:Subsistence. However, the "Making Of" might be interesting. Probably worth the purchase if you're a big fan. If you're willing to buy a console for one game, go for it.
Damn, is anyone else starting to get really annoyed that "Limited Edition" really means an extra disc with content we really don't want *cough* behind the scenes aka making of *cough*
The graphic novel and music is a stellar idea, but please Developers, just stop adding that useless crap and call it "Limited Edition"
@Billkwando: Metal Gear Solid 4: Weak Bladder.
It seems like a nice package, but for $85 bucks I'd expect a little something extra. I mean, the soundtrack sounds nice, but I think it merits the extra cash. The GTAIV special edition, though, that's worth the extra $30 if you ask me. (Everything should come with a duffle bag)
