The Weighted Companion Cube is not supposed to make people cry, but it most certainly did back in late December, when Valve's official plushies sold out within 24 hours of going on sale. We did not hate Valve for this. We were patient. We bided our time. Oh the biding we have done! Now said biding has paid off, as a fresh shipment of Weighted Companion Cubes have shown up at Valve's store, both in plushie and fuzzy dice formats. Both are available for $29.95, and both will more than likely be sold out within days, if not sooner. Aperture Science takes no responsibility for customers trampled to death in the ensuing rush.

$29.95? You're kidding, right? Valve? Screw you.
Do want! Sadly, my student loan comes NEXT Monday!
It is still less expensive than a "companion" doll.
@Candlejack:
this is a $10 plushie at most... Valve is milking its cash cow.
@Len Bias Cocaine Surplus:
you're a clever person... very clever...
MUST...Resist....buying....headcrab hat.
Got one. I'm a sucker for this kinda stuff.
$29.95 and they still sold out in 24 hours. Valve isn't being evil, it's being smart.
Is it Aperture Science or Aperture Labratories? Above the elevator (or whatever it is) it says "Aperture Labratories". Wouldn't Aperture Science be the study of apertures and they do the study at Aperture Labratories?
15cm? That's way too tiny for that price.
Make it $29.95 for a fully functional portal gun & you've got a deal.
Am I the only one who doesn't see these things in their store? I can't seem to find them.
With updates like this I'm going to ask Kotaku for a recall vote on the inclusion of posts regarding Wii VC updates.
@SAKY: damn wrong post. :(
That is kind of expensive for a plush cube. Can't blame Valve for pricing them at that price though since they will more than likely sell out.
I wonder if they're getting hammered, I cant get my order to go through
Oh hey I found them; $29.95 for a cube and then $27 for the "international" shipping to get it to canada. Hmmm I think sadly I may pass on the cube; all of a sudden it doesn't seem worth it.
Yeah...kinda "over" the whole wcc fad. It was fun at first but now my perception has returned and $30 for a plush is not happening.
@Candlejack:
They are making gobs of money out of the plushies, so I don't think they would care what you think,
@manusdei: Just gank the one from Bloor Street.
I sold my $30 dollar WCC for $175.00 bucks on eBay. I'll order 2 or 3 and hold them for awhile.
what a fantastic time for my checking account to be entirely empty.
I'd buy the Hunter plush before the cube.
Incidently, as far as the price goes, I'm not sure how much Valve will be responsible for that. This is obviously something that will need to be completely out-sourced and presumably made in limited batches, so the price may well be inflated due to the supplier.
Still, it's clearly not worth it.
my plushie loves me it has the hearts to prove it <3
Does that say free shipping on orders over $30 or $50? If it's, $30, that's mad dick. lol
@mikemil828: Of course they don't. I still like to state my opinion on that scheme they're pursuing. Ok?
I'm thinking about buying one just to throw it into a pit of fire.
Me! Want! This! NOW!
I wouldn't mind it...
but I also wouldn't spend $30 on it.
@Collapse The Control: Then youtube it.
It might get as popular as those console smashing videos.
@LittlestLamshi: All I'm saying is that for my money I at least got realistic lady parts.
I loved Portal but I don't get the Companion Cube obsession. It was a nice little thing in the game and that was it. And Stay Alive is a poorly written song thats sorta funny - although the final boss "2+2 = blalblblalb 10* was amusing enough.
Its a fad I don't get lol XD
But I am playing Portal for like the 5th go now.
It amazes me how poor the quality is on these...
it's a gd cube, and you can't even make it square? how hard of a shape is that?
it would be cool if they made like a bean bag chair sized one.
Asked for one of these for X-mas, got the Aperature Science parking permit instead, which is quite awesome. At least it won't stab me I suppose.
30 bucks seems about right for guaranteed birth control.
It's amazing how many people think $30 is such a bad price. Yes, it's tiny, but comparatively speaking, $30 is a great price. After the WCCs sold out the first time, they were getting $100+ on ebay easily. Kotaku readers of all people should know that thanks to the internet, the worth of any item like this, which is both unique and tied to a -very- marketable name, not to mention cute, is the collector's worth. And regardless of what cheapasses in this thread think, that worth is significantly more than $30.
Unless Valve is going to sell copius amounts of these in the future, I'd recommend getting one now at $30.. or at the very least, directing your angst towards those who make the $30 price tag appealing by comparison. It's not really a competent complaint to say Valve is asking too much for these...
@lasttimeyouaskedme: I think the shape is cute... probably what they were going for.
the real question here is:
is this buyer going to pay up after his $140 mistake in 2 days
[cgi.ebay.com]
Thanks for this. Wanted to get the fiance' one at Christmas, but they sold out too fast. Now she has one on the way.
$30 is a little price to pay for a huge smile.
@burnman: And you are the type of guy who knows how to keep a girl.
I can tell.
What? I don't see the plush on there. Sold out already?!
@LittlestLamshi: Yeah but did you know these things go for $200 on Ebay, valve could charge fifty if they wanted to, I'm guessing that they are trying to limit demand.
Wait, nvm.
Why does the ordering and shipping section say they wont ship merch outside the USA, but if you go through the checkout, it gives you hundreds of countries, Including the one I need, the UK. I'm confuzzled.
Well, low supply = high demand. To me $30 is not worth a plushie of an inanimate block.
@aden.exe: It's because they probably have some service handling the transactions and such of their store, and that service has dealers who DO sell internationally, and so the program or whatever has to accommodate everyone.
$30? That's more expensive than the game!
@manusdei: No kidding. I was all ready to grab one, even at $30, but basically DOUBLE the price just to ship it across the border? No friggin' way.
Maybe some nice Kotakuite will offer to ship them to us. Or maybe I should just get a post office box in Buffalo.

I KNOW! I was shocked, already to proceed with my order. Almost $30 to ship cloth cube filled with fluff to Canada?
I'm shocked and appalled. Or neither. I forget which.
But either way, a little put off :(
DAMMIT! Fuzzy dice are illegal in my state.
I was about to buy one until I realised that shipping to the UK would cost $27! That's seriously lame.
@Wookiee1: Is that a joke or some weird law I didn't know about?
I almost bought this the first time around, had it in my cart and everything, then I thought, "Naw, it's cool, but I'm not that obsessed."
Had I known how obsessed everyone else was going to be I would have got it =\
Now I'm not so sure it'll still sell, but what the heck, worst case situation is that I've now got a faithful companion.
I gave in :(
Cube awesomeness is too awesome to ignore.
I feel the main problem with this plush companion cube is not the price but the size. 6" x 6" x 6"? What do you expect me to do with that, buy three and start juggling? What I really wanted was a plush companion cube that was 24" x 24" x 24"; that way I could hug my companion cube every night before going to bed... so ronery.
Is this the same Valve that everyone was praising for saying that their Team Fortress DLC could be free, but it was up to MS and Sony?
No wonder they can afford to give DLC away for free; they're busy raping their fans who want plushies.
/I understand that this is a capitalistic society, where prices are based on the supply and demand of a product, and the demand of this product justifies the price.
I'm just saying, is all.
Valve plushes are FAR too expensive. They're pretty darn tiny, too. Fuzzies for $30? =\ No thanks!
PayPal FTW
Oh no, the parking permits are back in stock too. I ordered a poster and a parking permit and a WCC plushie. It's all your fault, Fahey! I'll see you in court.
Yeah $27 for International Shipping (and I'm in Canada).
The cube isn't so nice at twice the price...
@manusdei: Yes, me too. I had my credit card out and ready when I got kicked with that as well. $29 for the thing. $27 to ship. And who knows what customs on top of that. When getting the item to you costs more than the thing itself, it's not worth it. Whatever happened to free trade?
$3 shipping here. I'm in!
"Free shipping with $50 purchase? Awesome!
Just let me buy a few more things...
... What the... do I count as international?
... Oh Goddamnit..."
