Sonic fan site Sonic Stadium writes that it may have uncovered the first shots of Sonic Unleashed, the title Sega trademarked earlier this month. According to Sonic Stadium, the screen shots, some in-game, some pre-rendered CG, were culled from one of Sega's FTP servers. They certainly look like the genuine article, giving the impression that Sonic Unleashed will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, hopefully with gameplay that's more Sonic and the Secret Rings than it is Sonic the Hedgehog "Next-Gen."

I really wish they wouldn't have made Super Sonic so integral to the plot. The magic of him in the earlier games was that he was totally optional and missed by most of the players, and took real work to acquire. Now he's just a deus ex machina when they need a DBZ-style savior.

But seriously, "Sonic Unleashed?" How much more cliche can you be. It's like calling the next Mario game "Mario Reloaded."

That's another thing I think is weird. Why do Sonic games have such involved plots? It's not like they can be totally serious anyway. Despite how hard they try, he and his friends are all just inexplicably fast marsupials.

Oh yeah! Plumbing. Mario's a plumber. That's really weird too. He hasn't done anything even remotely plumbing related since 85, except maybe jumping in giant pipes. My god, this topic has really made me realize how fucked up some of these classic games are.

You can automatically tell this one is going to be bad. They haven't grasped what made Sonic great in the first place. It wasn't edgy characters or "cool" powerups. It was solid, entertaining, LIGHTHEARTED gameplay that focused on speed.

From the looks of it, Sega has decided to take the Secret Rings gameplay and make a 360/PS3 game from it.
As long as there's no 15 second loading screens every 10 seconds I'm happy.

A few hours late but still good. I really hope this doesn't suck, but am expecting it to continue the pattern and one up Sonic 06 on terms of fail.

It certainly looks good but will play as nice? I mean it's really hard for me to get excited by a Sonic game considering what's come out as of late for the blue hedgehog.

they need to make a next gen Sonic that is sidescroller, fuck all that 3d shit. leave that to mario and company. sega has tarnished a great sonic collection (Sonic1,2,3,Sonic and Knuckles) if they do a side scroller with crazy graphics, then i will buy. until then ill play the sega genesis collection, thank you.

damn you sonic we need to get this relationship straighten out, you come on to me so sweetly with you 90's game and even sonic adventure 1,2 and heroes was a fun time to be had. Sadly, shadow and the rest of those games almost cause me to give up on you sonic. But those sweet little handheld packages got me through those hard times. even secret of the rings caused me to remember those good times. Then sonic riders zero gravity comes out and ruin behind those handhels titles and that one-off you where the same old hedgehog lure me in with the process of returning to your roots then slip me something while im inticed and im playing sonic 2006. While chronicles look amazing and i can see that when your in the hands of other people you can be a different guy, although when youre around sega you immediatly change and break my heart. So please prove to me that youre not sega whipping boy and break out of your rut for me ,the fans and yourself.

Honestly just what has Sonic done to deserve such love? Really? It's like gamers are the battered girlfriends in an episode of cops, "please don't take ma Sonic I loves him" despite all the abuse we have been put through over the years.
Don't get me wrong I have fun memories of playing the first couple,(I still fire them up occasionally,) but just how many games have there been and when was the last decent game?
Which other game franchise could get away with such a terrible ratio of Good:Crap?

Oh, Sega. You want to please me, then make an HD version of one of the better side scrolling games (Sonic CD HD, for me), or make a pretty cel shaded 2.5D Sonic game that looks and plays well. Thats how you'll tickle my fancy.

apparently, one of the "fake" screenshots show that this is like a super bad ass version of sonic rush with awesome CG cutscenes.
The last big hurrah for Sonic was on the Dreamcast.
I would love to see Sega bring the franchise back in a positive way and make-up for their previous "next-gen" effort. However, going by their track record, their internally developed stuff has been 'bleh' at best.
Some of them look like CG renders.
And secondly, not more SatSR, more Sonic Adventure. (The action stages and not the fishing that is...)
