This is the intro to the Japanese version of Mario Kart Wii. Should be no different to the inro we get everywhere else. Love the uninterrupted gameplay footage towards the end, but what's with the invisible karts and the bumping and the sidewards glances? Awfully suggestive of you, Nintendo.

Mustache rides for everyone!
I really hope the damn item iter system is taken away, or at least not as cemented into the game like it was in MK:DS.
I'm kind of looking forward to this.
I didn't care much for double dash, but I loved MKDS... if this is more like that then I'm all for this.
Poor Luigi...
Damn that blue shell.. =/
Poor Luigi, He deserves better :(
I never got how Stunt Racing in a Mario Kart game could ever work, this... hasn't caused an epiphany, seriously. I just want to Kart Race with the occasionally Balloon Battle bout.
Lalalalanotwatchingjustsoldmywiilalala.
First the Zapper and now the Wii Wheel. Nintendo sure can hock terrible peripherals with the best of them.
@ila: I found the Item System in MK: DS was fair, at least it was fun to occasionally get a triple Red Shell barrage in third place. Plus it's not like the AI was that hard to shake...
@Demonbird: Anything to keep their Greenpeace score below 1.
@Cchrist: At least never sell a DS, that's just poor short/long term judgement
This is the game's intro, and not a commercial? Then what's with that Wii logo at the beginning? I've played Japanese Wii games (well, game...Brawl) and they don't have that. The commercials do, though.
This is the first insistence where I don't envy the Japanese :S
this is the first screen i have seen of mario kart.
I want to know what have they done to mario kart?
Seriously it use to be so much better when everyone pretty much had the same karts there was no kart better than the other, there was no motorcycles and lets do tricks to rack up the points, only 5 or 6 items.
The 64 version kills all.
I just want classic mario kart, none of what nintendo is trying to sell.
@Cchrist: Dammit....
@AntiZERO: It gave me a headache!
this is gonna blow
that was...sort of meh. It'll be a fun game no doubt, but I think they could have done something much more spectacular and exciting than invisible karts in a white void
I'm afraid this looks like it won't top MKDS. Let's wait and see what happens though.
I want to see a realistic Mario Kart. At least once. I want to see a turtle shell take out Luigi's back axel, his kart flip over, and his limp body go flying over the guard rail, into dozens of innocent bystanders. I want to see a blue shell scatter Bowser and Peach all across a hairpin turn in Mario Circuit, causing other drivers to have to swerve to avoid the chunks of bone and flesh. Yeah, it's freaking weird, but I just want to see it done once, maybe in a flash animation or something.
@Jamaces:
The DS version didn't go batshit crazy with items, and you could choose any cart with any racer, so I think it did OK. The mechanics of the DS version were really tight too, I think better than 64, but definatly better than any of the others.
Wow. So everyone's argument is that this game will suck because it isn't Mario Kart 64 or Mario Kart DS... right.
That's like not liking ice cream because it isn't pizza. If you want pizza so bad, go get a damn slice! O_O
*plays Brawl while waiting for Mario Kart to come out*
I'm going to enjoy this game no matter what people think of it, And that truly horrible treatment of Luigi, come on Nintendo if you going to have them bash some one repeatedly at least use Bowser.
Haha, check out the Smash Bros reference, Wario's car does something that looks like Wario's up B.
@NESv1:
Actually it's more like Mario Kart 64 did things right and we are puzzled why they are trying to fix something that isn't broken. A better example would be that everyone was fine with their pepperoni pizza but now they just keep throwing anchovies and other weird toppings on it.
I like the suggestive little nudge that the Princess gives to Mario. That's as close as they're ever going to come to actually shtooping. He's going to have that "banana peel" in his wallet forever!
Looks pretty cool. I've never been hugely into Mario Kart, but this looks like a game I'll want to at least try if nothing else.
The trailer is a wee bit suggestive though, agreed ;)
@BradOFarrell:
Forward B, you mean ;P
And yeah, it's a chopper.
huh... i didn't see the suggestiveness in it
Despite the hate, I loved Double Dash. Hell, I've loved EVERY mario kart game and I doubt I'll like this any less.
What's gotten my eyebrow raised is how very little coverage this game has gotten for a first-party nintendo title that's supposed to come out in a month...
I dont want to jinx it, but I can feel a delay in the air.
@TitillatedOcelot:
With double dash, that may make sense, but not with DS. In a lot of people's opinion, including mine, DS was just hands down better. To me, it was faster, handled better, looked better, and had cooler modes and better tracks. Sure, a lot of people complained about snaking, but now they're fixing that. Mario Kart Wii looks like it has a lot of good ideas. I am skeptical about the bikes, but the new drift mechanic seems like a good idea. And how do you know it won't handle better than 64?
So bored of this francise. MKDS was the peak for the series and now I just need a break from it.
So I won't be picking it up I'll get it on the next console cycle.
@TheEngineer: Kirbytheslayer is awesome.: I think you meant to reply to someone other than me. My comment was all about Mario and the Princess' completely boink-less relationship.
Why is Luigi always playing second fiddle? Damn, that guy needs some more attention.
Also: I never understood why bit characters like Koopa Troopers get entire character slots when there are way more options to choose from. I mean, does anyone really get in a snit if they can't be generic turtle soldier 417-B? Boggles the mind.
It's about time they added stunts to mario kart.
@TitillatedOcelot:
Yeah sorry about that man. I was talking to DemonBird. Funny comment though. I didn't see it until now.
This is gonna get raw, like sushi. So Mario Kart haters to the left.
Mario "Kart".... why does it have those crappy Motorcycles?
Ok, I've done my best to not get bitchy up until now, but I have to say that I don't know if I really care about this game at all. The motorcycles seemed to push it for me, but the damn stunt-boost system is making me feel that the now missing snaking (thank God for that one awesome decision) is just being replaced with a "do a barrel roll!" mid-race challenge. I want to race insane tracks in circles all day while throwing/dropping shit at my opponents, not focusing on when to wheelie and where the next sweet stunt spot is. Nintendo, can I have Super Mario Kart back? No snaking, sweet items, tracks that killed... Please?
@Dreamwriter: Because this is taken from a major new update of the game's Japanese site. Which technically makes it a "trailer". But it is the game's intro.
I think I'm gonna have to wait on picking up Mario Kart. It's a little too close to the release of a certain other game. What I'm saying is that I'd rather be stealing cars than driving them....
@Krytha: Every time he gets attention he squanders it and we end up feeling dirty.
Rubbish...
looks ok..they should let Sega handle there intro(not the game) but the intro!
@Krytha: Hey, I like racing as Koopa and Dry Bones and all of those guys. I'm actually disappointed that they don't use more of the old enemy characters, like goombas and boos. Instead they throw in filler like the babies and Waluigi. I mean, Waluigi... come on.
@Demonbird:
Eurogamer's review said the Wii wheel was actually pretty nice.
And this intro is pretty nice too.
For those of us that aren't stuck in 1997, this game looks like a blast.
Oh man, I was about to freak out when I saw how much bloom there was in the beginning of the intro. Thank god it looks like it was at least toned down a little bit in all of the gameplay clips. I know, I know, Nintendo just has to show off the improved lighting capabilities of the Wii over the gamecube ... but I just can't take that much bloom!
@brieeyeball:
No! We need more bloom! MORE AND MORE AND MORE!!!
Aaaaaand I'm back to not being interested in it :/. I ru so hot and cold on this game it's not funny.
@AntiZERO: the blue shell begs to differ. the point I'm trying to make is: the game punished you for being in 1st place. I don't mean "just made it harder" either, I mean flat out punished.
I wouldn't mind a return of item tiers if say, the system just improved the chances of getting a certain item based on place. EX: higher change for Blue shells while in 10th, but it was still at least POSSIBLE to get a Starman while in 1st.
for every snaker lost, they get 5 new 5-year-old player, so complaining is irrelevant. Besides, I really cannot believe anyone who says "I will not buy a nintendo game".
In the end, we'll all play it, and get mad when a unfair blue shell hits us right in front of the goal, and be cool. Who cares? when playing with kids, let them win. When playing with friends, just ban the blue shell. When playing online... well, why would you play online?
Oh Mario Kart, how far have you fallen?
Maybe the problem here isn't the franchise but perhaps Nintendo's just not trying anymore. Every installment on the spin-off series takes a step further and further away from classic games such as the original SNES Mario Kart and the hilariously addictive 64 version.
The biggest gripe I've got with this intro is well, the zaniness. These titles are supposed to be fun, however everything including the tracks felt like a lazy rehash of Double Dash (aka MK:Double Drat considering it handles more like 'Wacky Races') But don't get me wrong. Double Dash isn't a terrible game, it just doesn't play like Mario "KART".
Can't we all just stick to KARTS for once guys? Before it gets really ridiculous and the next incarnation sees us driving Limousines or shopping trolleys...
@humongous_mouse:
"the hilariously addictive 64 version"
Oh, how dead on the money you are with that comment ^^
I have to agree with you, I want them to stick to the Karts... It is "Mario Kart" afterall and not "Mario Racing"...
I hate the intro. For intros I don't want gameplay footage. Give me awesome CG character and vehicle introductions!
Man, bitch bitch bitch. That's all you people do about upcoming games from Nintendo. Wah wah wah. Personally, aside form the bikes, it just looks like an enhanced version of MK:DS, and I'm down with that.
Unfortunately "enchanced versions" are the only thing the Wii seems to be capable of... When do we get to see something mind-blowingly fresh ideas?
"but what's with the invisible karts"
the wii can only render so much at one time!
arf arf....
... i'll get my coat.
@humongous_mouse: For every person who complains about taking it too far from classic installments, there's a person who complains about not taking it far enough from classic installments.
SMK
MKSC
MK64
MKDS
MKDD
Wonder where I'll rank the Wii version.... hopefully above the 64 version
And did anyone here actually PLAY Super Circuit? That was damn near perfect!
sold.
certain will buy this.
not so sure about the baby wheel, might give that to the dog.
What was up with those extra boosts after a trick?
They get rid of snaking but add boosts everywhere else?
you know it's possible to dodge the blue shell right?
+ Watch video
Woah! Very flirty action between Mario and Peach there! jesus they might as well have teabagged Luigi considering what they did, it would also help to signify that the games got online play!
