Turns out that poor sap who had his Xbox 360 viciously cleaned during a routine repair might now perceive that horrible incident as the best thing that's ever happened to him. In addition to an over the top make-good package from the boys at Bungie, Microsoft has heeded the call for reparations, shipping off a handsomely worthwhile package to Nathan, victim of a wild rag-man.
His prize? A personally signed photo of Bill Gates, who also lent his signature to an Xbox 360 faceplate. Oh, sure, Nate also got a new console and hundreds of dollars in brand spanking new video games, but a signed picture of Bill? I'd be hocking that free copy of Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom for a bulletproof picture frame, right quick.

Good on Microsoft. Now they just need to issue a stern directive to their repair people to actually read and comprehend letters that are included with the consoles that people have made their own, and their restitution will be complete.
I think some things, such as this, get blown way out of proportion.
now all mircosoft needs to do now is make it so they don't break with the red rings so we don't have to go through sending them back in the first place! eather that or this kid should tottally buy a differnt xbox.

I just wish my 360 did not die an hour ago right when I was downloading the Rock Band update with the new store, man that easter holiday will be Rockbandless, if only I could fix it like a regular PC I'd be running outside getting myself a new CPU and fan right now.

You can't possibly categorized these events as MSFT 'caring'. The compensation is a given, but all he got was a helmet with signatures and goody bag here and there.
I still think the compensation was underwhelming, I was expecting lifetime Live or something of similar value. Guess my 'after-service' mentality from the Far East far exceeds American standards

If he were properly aloof from his xbox, then sending it in and getting it back clean would have been a blessing--for he would have been able to contemplate its spotless white shell, and heed the words of the universe. Instead, he has now become burdened with even *more* possessions, ultimately jeopardizing his enlightenment and achievement of Nirvana. Which is just like... tcha... *so* stupid.

It is a PR stunt but a very nice one at that. This guy is better off than before and he has a lot of dedication for this product and the people behind it.
