Subaru created its own sit-down controller for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for this year's New York Auto Show. The pod lets you race their new STI on a rally track and bounces around when you hit bumps. Now this is something they should set up at malls across America.

I recall seeing this in a Gran Turismo 4 Promotional video. This is not new by several years.
I discretely remember seeing this in use in a Gran Turismo 4 promotional video. This is not new by several years.
I guess this is what it means to be the #1 racing sim.
BTW Crecente... has sonic entered and filled you yet?
Start the bidding at 10k.
@okenny :): You FUCKING KING OF THE JUNGLE!
Nice, I'm going to that show probably tomorrow.
@okenny :): I know better than to say it was intentional with you, but that could be considered a "stealth" FIRST, what with the use of the #1 ;)
Back to what I intended to comment; IF these were to be configured as coin-op, how much would they charge per play? I'm saying either 2 bucks or 3, per play.
Now if they only made those for home, and had mass effect in them, so I could replay the "virtual rape" scene over and over again like the evil person I am.
I had the 3 monitor setup with a racing seat and buttkicker for Forza 2. It's an awesome experience. They could make these setups as arcade machines. Not sure how much the average arcade machine costs, but it shouldn't be much worse than the ones that have been done before.
The real Driving simulator.. awesome
doesnt the tekken 6 arcade cost like 20k or something out of control? i generally think newer ones are around 5k ish
@Redface, The Dark Messiah of Justice: USE ME!! USE ME!!
Does that guy have sideburns that join into a moustache?! Awesome!
I can drive.
Why are the screens (of all things), tiny?
I'm going to assume that car windows are at least 2 times as big as they are now =/
They've had/did have two of these at the Gameworks at Great Lakes Crossing in Michigan for quite a while. Obviously not GT 5, I'd imagine in there, but it was that cabinet.
@Shadow71: You give far too much credit good sir. I made the comment because I think the bar has been raised from what GT5 is offering but the game has become an iconic figure to driving sims to the point that Car companies do this. A game that can easily sell 10 million over it's life span is no joke and though the PS3 doesn't currently have the install base to make that happen just yet... it very well could and That's not mind share that any company is will to let go. You make a good impression with GTA, some teenager may be buying your car in 5 to 10 years from now. It's pretty awesome in a strange marketing way.
@JackB99: Forza 2 was pretty awesome wasn't it. Forza 3 will probably come out at the same time as the real GTA5. Though Forza 2 is arguably the better sim at the moment, it would be interesting to see what the full realization of both games have to offer 2 - 3 years from now. In line with what you're saying, I hope that this games allow for output signals other that multiple monitors and rumble (force feedback too) and go as far as to send data that gives sim booths accurate engine vibration and suspension simulation... that would seriously be bad-ass!
@Kazzahdrane: YOU BLESSED BEAST! YOU ALPHA AND OMEGA! TAKE MY BODY AND MY SOUL AS WEAPONS IN YOUR FIGHT!
Gran Turismo has been outdone and GT5 can give little more to the now almost defunct racing sim collection, with only Forza that actually has some personality.
Although Gran Turismo 1 and 2 are the very pinnacle of my videogaming childhood :P I'm sorry I didn't have an N64!
My LORD! That is smothered in Awesome Sauce, and reeking of WIN!
I want one!
@-EDGE-: hey... that's kinda how Crecente is reeking of Hedgehog sauce!
@-EDGE-: Why do you talk like that? Why can't you just say this is really cool and would like one. Why do you have identify yourself as the typical nerd who talks like that?
Sheesh.
@lilc09: Let him revel however he wants.
In saying that, I gag occasionally at the "full of/made of/...win" statement and have no idea how it ever evolved; that and its acronym.
For the loss...for the win. *ponders*
Now what I wanna know is who confirmed that that's GT5 in the photo. I have GT5 Prolouge (Japanese version) and there are NO rally tracks in the game at all. GT5 itself may have them, but Prologue does NOT. Also, the HUD is very different in GT5 - no more amber numbers for position and such... something you can clearly see in the photo.
These cabinets have been around at various auto and game shows since as far back as Gran Turismo 3... I have serious doubts that the one in the photo is running GT5.
@pylon_trooper:
"For the loss...for the win. *ponders*"
That took me the longest time to figure out at first. I'm not big on internet abbreviations.
Screw this, I want a Burnout cabinet, and by that I mean one that physically nearly throws you out of it every time you crash.
@Kuromankuro R.I.P. 360 March 21st 2008 ----March 22nd 2008: so what does it mean?
@lilc09: I think not everyone agrees with the implied conclusion of the titling on the sim booth itself. Everyone probably thinks the machine itself is badass but aren't willing to buy in to the belief of GT being "The Real Driving Simulator" as if it was the only or the best at siming.
is it Want It Now?
check out the chops on that mofo
This would totally get stolen from the malls in America. Sure, each perpetrator would get caught with this giant thing in his house, but he'd have one kick ass party before that happened.
I think it needs slightly bigger monitors, or a single curved one. Other than that, its a damn fine piece of engineering.
@Kuromankuro-R.I.P.-360 March_21st_2008----March_22nd_2008: Yeah, the first several times I saw "FTL" I wondered what Faster Than Light propulsion had to do with anything in the discussion. ;)
@worthyexpress: It's an interesting one, that one.
"For the win" seems to assume that the "win" hasn't actually happened yet, meaning it must be adding to the triumph of the product...
I guess "for the loss" means the opposite, a detractor to the object in question.
In any case, SOCOM Tactical Strike, for me, is FULL OF WIN, or MADE OF WIN...leading to the notion that the game that currently has me entranced is constructed of pure triumph. I can only agree with this bizarre bubbling of internet lingo.
@lilc09: Cause this is the Internets, dude! :D
The cockpit pictured is actually a GT4 system that was playable at car shows (LA Auto Show) few years back.
@Candlejack:
How appropriate that Candlejack get into the conversation in this threa
seriously, they couldn't get larger screens for the setup?
Sorry to say, but this is a bit old.
I saw these setups both this year and last year at the Philadelphia Auto Show. They were only running GT4, not GT5. I didn't get on it this year since the line was 50 people long, so I can't be sure whether or not they had updated to GT5 or not. The setup looked exactly the same as the previous year, though. It kind of sucks playing it - the faster/better you are the less time you have on it since they only let you do one time trial.
@Channing: Yea, I love me some GT5 on my PS3 :>
Damn, gotta buy new rope....
Um isnt that GT4?
@tayaya: It could be a custom version for Subaru. Alot of the time, Polophony hooks them up early before everyone else even has the game.
now all they need is that curved tv screen
They had this at the Seattle Auto Show back in November as well, and I seem to recall it was there last year as well. They charged something like $2 to play for 3 minutes at that show (but the money was going to charity.) I'm pretty sure it's some custom version of GT4 being used for it. Obviously, only one car was available to use.
@ lilc09:
Umm, because I made peace with my inner geek long ago. But,here, let me go one better..STFU
That work for you?
***Random but I couldn't help it when I saw it***
Just FYI, this is another example of what Bashcroft has been playing for at least a couple weeks.

Man, if only mall rides were that awesome.
@DeeBG: Um, yea, thanks....? Let him play what he wants to. Jeez. Shouldn't we as fellow gamers show acceptance?
BTW, that is pretty hawt. =D
@DeeBG: So?
Pretty neat simulator.I think I saw this before on the subaru forums( I drive one..)
