It's that time again! Yes, that's right. Time for another round of "Tell Us Dammit." For those who missed the last commenting love-in, Tell us Dammit is our opportunity to learn more about you reader person. That way we can feel closer! And perhaps, even for a fleeting second, feel kinda bad when we ban your ass. Here's how it works: We ask a question. You answer it. So! The TUD Giraffe asks:
What was the first game you ever beat/finished/completed?
For me, that'd hafta be Kung Fu on the NES. And for arcade games? That'd be Final Fight. Thanks you parents' money for those precious memories!

Comments
Super Mario Land on the GameBoy.
River City Ransom (NES)
For me, it was Super Mario Bros. Arcade was probably Ninja Turtles 2
Pokémon Red because I sucked and couldn't beat anything before it.
Bonk's Adventure
Super Mario 1.
For me, Air Fortress or Super C for the NES ( I can't remember which was first) for the arcade, x-men.
That's a tough one - I'm guessing it was an NES game but the first one I have a memory of is Actraiser. I've been working on it again off and on now that it is back on the virtual console.
Super Mario World for SNES
I'm pretty sure the first game I beat was either Captain Skyhawk or Sonic the Hedgehog... both totally amazing... I think it was Sonic actually, since our NES was never fully "there".
space quest 3.
granted, my father told me how to solve everything.
Na wait, I think it was Links Awakening, I played through lessons in Primary School to beat it, same with Pokémon Silver.
Mike Tyson's Punch Out! That's right, the original. No Mr. Dream BS.
legend of zelda...beat it while staying home with the chicken pox waaaay back in the day.
lets see..
possibly sonic 1 on genesis
and for sure xmen vs. street fighter on arcade
(only 19 im still a semi young gamer :P)
Super Mario Bros. Never really played arcade games.
How can anybody remember this?
I honestly have no idea, but I'd imagine it'd be something on the PC. Maybe Wolfenstein 3D ?
ninja turtles 3 on NES
The original Duke Nukem on Dos
Mario Bros.
@baked ham: How can you not remember?
err Super Mario Bros (NES).
Sonic 2
Super Mario Bros. for the NES. My dad knew all the "secret" pipes to finish the game in about an hour.
possibly sonic 2, can't remember
Pretty sure it was FF1. Not the "first" game I played by a long shot, but I never cared much about "beating" a game before that one. Also one of the first games I ever had to consult Nintendo Power/any outside source to get past a part (rather than just giving up).
The Legend of Zelda nes here
sonic on sega or might have been the first street fighter....but i never count beating a fighter game as beating a game.
Ikari Warriors kept freezing at the end of stage 3, so couldn't have been that....
Maybe Wizards and Warriors or Zelda.
First game I actually finished was probably diablo 2, man the final diablo fight rocked.
Arcade huh? Ninja Turtles. fo sho.
@Cchrist: Dude, some of us have been gaming for 20+ years.
For me, it's Kids on Keys. And yes, that counts as a game, so w/e.
Gran Turismo 2 ... wait a minute... D:<
Um, would probably have to be Bionic Commando.
@Setzer IIDX: Math blaster rox!
You have to remember, for old school gamers who started in the 80s or before, you didn't use to be able to "beat" most games, it was just how far you could get and how high a score. So while I played a fuck-ton of Space Invaders/Donkey Kong/etc before I got a NES, I never really considered myself to have "beaten" any of those types of games.
Megaman for console. I finished Killer Instinct in the arcades and that's the only one ever. T-T
Kirby's Dreamland for the Gameboy I think, but im not sure.
Great Question! Goes along nicely with the 'game completion anxiety' article posted earlier (something i definitely suffer from).
The first game i ever beat is also the game i've RE-beaten more than any other:
ACTRAISER!
I always hated sim games (i think sim city was all the rage around the snes days) but i still think actraiser had the best combination of sidescrolling/godplay of any game to date (are there even any other games that attempted to merge the two?)
Pitfall 2 on the Atari 2600
A round of Wheel of Fortune on my XT, I think. ^^;
Besides that, Final Fantasy on the NES, even before I beat Mario.
Super Mario Bros. fo sho
The first Sonic game on the Sega Master System II
SSA: Ancient Empires. Played it on my XT when I was 4 or something.
I personally beat myself? Duck Hunt. Witness being beat: My brother beat Super Mario Bros without dying. This was the good old days where if you died, you had to pass the controller to the next person. He didnt die. Bastard. The original Batman game...I beat it 2 years ago finally. That game was HARD.
At Home: Pitfall II on the Atari 2600.
At the Arcade: Tough to remember, but it was probably either TMNT or Altered Beast.
Pokemon Silver. Pretty sad, huh?
I'm pretty sure it was Rampage on the Sega Master System.
One that I beat? I was to sporadic as a kid so I never beat any of my NES games. Sonic The Hedgehog had to be my first.
@Cchrist: I dont know. Probably because beating games was never that important to me as a youth, I just enjoyed playing them. I must've played about a trillion hours of various NES games but I have no memories of beating any of them, though I figure I had to have beaten something. I do have a very distinct memory of beating Final Fantasy II (aka IV) on the SNES when it first came out, but I know that that wasn't the first game I beat, I just didn't really pay any attention to that sort of thing before. Actually, a memory of Super Mario Bros. 2 is coming back to me. I definitely beat that game. And a couple of the Mega Man games. Probably the first & 3rd Mario Bros. as well, but I think both of those were after 2 for me. I have no idea which of these came first. Dammit! Oh well.
First game was Crystalis on the NES, followed by Super Mario Bros as a close second.
Console - Super Mario Bros. ; Arcade - Golden Axe
@Setzer IIDX: Oh and i haven't? Ok i might be as old as Super mari bros but i also started gaming at a very young (having an older brother helps) I'll never forget beating that game because it was a very special moment. (it also tok me a few years as i was really young)
Bonaza Bros on the Mega Drive, loved that little guy.
Contra on the NES, Double Dragon in the Arcades.
I don't remember if Atari games have ending, so probably my first game I beat was Mario I guess.
Super Mario brothers, when i was 8 years old. Man, that's a long time ago. took me 1 year to beat that sucker because of world 8 where you have to make that big ass jump to get to the other side (hopefully some of you will know what i'm talking about). that section took me 1 year to finally get across. I nearly flung my controller as i was pressing the button. IT WORKED!!!
Good times...good times.
It's one of the following: The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, or Kid Icarus. I can't really remember.
Oregon Trail! (not the ASCII version, but not the version with color either)
Contra on NES with 30 lives :B
Wizards and Warriors on NES
Vanguard on Atari
Super Mario bros and Zelda II on NES
Either Super Mario Bros. 3 or Sonic the Hedgehog...Good times, good times.
Well, I am going to claim I 'beat' Space Invaders for the Atari 2600 when I was 11. I rolled that sucker over 10 times one afternoon. 100k+ points.
But the first actual beaten game is Raiders of the Lost Arc for the same 2600. No internet to let you know how to find the Well of the Souls in 1982.
@Jechticknight: o yea...i remember that time. you felt tortured cause you didn't get to play until i died.
Nintendo World Cup on the Original Game Boy.
Kung-Fu and then shortly after that Super Mario Bros.
@DaiMacculate: Yeah, Space Invaders was my favorite game when I was young, but there isn't any 'beating' it.
The first game I 'beat' was Jurassic Park on the SEGA Genesis. At the time I think the game came bundled with the system. I had no idea how to beat the final boss when I played as the Raptor. I had no idea what to do and only found out when my dad asked a co-worker who had apparently beaten the game.
