Persona 4 was just previewed in Famitsu yesterday and already someone has ripped the promo videos that came with the magazine. (Of course they are both in Japanese) They are both pretty lengthy, one being ten minutes, the other coming in at around eight. I've only recently been inducted into the angsty, head shooting world of Persona 3 and I must admit I find it quite fascinating. Sadly there is no head shooting in the new Persona but hopefully this new game will be just as intriguing as its predecessors.
Make the jump to check out promo number two!

Meh.
Off topic, but is anyone else getting a 'Suspicious Website' phishing filter warning on the Kotaku main page?
YES.
Did I read correctly (on wiki): This game is coming out for the PS2? In 2008?
AWESOME!!
@Candlejack: in japan
wow that kind of just kept going...at least it was'nt a silverlight player!
@ErskinPig: yup
@fyrtoes: Good lord. Talk about a console's lifespan averaging 4 years.
@Candlejack
The PS3 shall never die!
instead of shooting themselves in the head in this one they have unprotected sex to unleash there magic spells!
But seriously this is going to be awesome and I'm real happy its on PS2!
@Gadgetron: Not just me then.
What gives, Kotaku?
I wish I knew why they (the characters) all wear glasses at some point or the other in these trailers. Anyways, this games looks exactly like P3, but heres to hoping they improve on it. In fact, here is a bet:
If this game has randomly generated dungeons, then God isn't real.
If it doesn't, then he might just be real and I am going to hell.
I never thought I'd go backwards in gens to buy games, but this is totally a day one purchase for me.
I think this game is looking better then P3 already. I just wish it was on the PS3. I guess I'll have to wait for P5.
P-Out!
@kingclip: Judging by your avatar, I would say so ;)
Very nice, I hope this makes its way to Europe.
Sold!!!
My, the Velvet Room has gotten a pretty classy makeover since P3.
@Afore Notation: From the video, it looks like the dungeons might be actual, non-random dungeons now. Hard to tell.
@epherlite: It looks like it's the Velvet Limo now.
Success.
I like song that kick in around 1:49-ish! :)
Sweet.
I liked the randomly generated dungeons in Persona 3.
Dammit. I still need to beat P3. I played it up until about December 2 or so (game calendar) and clocked about 100 hours into it, then I had to go out of town for about a week and I never played it again.
Well I'm excited, guess that means I actually need to resume Persona 3 and beat it... Tartarus was getting quite boring.
Can't wait for this game, Nocturne was the first RPG I actually bought.Also that short guy looks like the result of Mr.Burns raping a Penguin.
Looks like this time, instead of Dark Hour and Tatarus, you enter the other world via a TV set. You can only do that on a rainy midnight.
I cannot wait. P3 is one of my favorite games ever. I don't even need to buy a ps3 to get p4. : D
*Drool* It looks so good.
@baked ham:
@RudeAnimat0r:
Glad to hear im not the only one who hasn't finished P3 yet in a long time.
About P4, I like the way you cruise around the town & school. Hopefully there huge enough to explore, like your traditional RPG. That would be really cool!
Looks like P3 in a new setting.
I got bored of repeating random dungeon floors and the fights were rather bland. I'd rather have a real SMT game than another Persona, especially one I already played gameplay wise.
The theme song is horrific too, it's everything that is wrong with the latest Persona stuff, it just has no real depth to it and seems aimed at teenage girls.
I was kinda worried but they included a guy stuck in a trash can and the game play looks to be almost the same, so I'll certainly keep an eye on this.
The theme song sounds like a HALCALI song. :oD It's not the best, but it's not that bad either.
fucking eh, i hope they localize it i wee bit faster this time around
@AstrayPenguin:
It's everything that is wrong with the latest persona stuff? Besides FES, there has been all of 1 persona game in the last 6 years.
There's nothing indicating that there will be bland dungeons or repeating dungeon floors in Persona 4. Not going to bother to touch the other comments. I'll wait and see before I pass judgment on this game.
@mossberg: I agree.
Well, that proves it, I STILL don't know japanese.
Of course, knowing the language may not be the only prerequisite for understanding what was going on there.
Did P3 have the same anime style cutscenes? I always mean to pick up last game, but P3:FES is coming out soon, no?
@Afore Notation:
Looks like the glasses are the new Evokers, from what I can tell...but I'm not certain.
And if I'm right, instead of shooting themselves in the head to evoke the Personas, they...squint? Cool.
The Velvet Room is in a limo now?!? Anyway, they seemed to have upgraded the engine quite a bit. I really can't wait!
My FES is pre-ordered, and if P3 is half as good as I've heard, the purchase of Persona 4 will already be in the bag. I like the newer art style of P3/P4; the characters don't look like scary mannequins anymore. Now, it's a nice mix of the anime look, modern stylings, and a sort of slight painter-ish feel that I think fits the series well.
Also, VIVA PS2! If the PS2 actually gets a price drop, I'm gonna buy myself a new one, just because. (As in, just because the PS3 is dicking around with backward compatibility.)
Hmm me want very much, though I really need to get around to beating persona 3 before fes comes out, I have a love hate relationship with it though, get beat by some boss because my main character dies don't play for a few weeks.
meh, as they say. I'd rather watch the DVD. 1.5 minutes into the promo and nothing but black clouds. 3 min in and a lame music video on a Max Headroom TV. The rest is just talk talk talk talk talk. This is supposed to be a video game?
Like many others here, I have to seriously finish some Persona 3. I might just finish it after I get FES - play it with the new content.
Persona 4 is looking sexy, and the music still sounds great, but I'm hoping it won't feel exactly the same as Persona 3..
@GwennBlackfeather: That's my guess too. I can only assume that they're going to try to keep P4 in the same Canon world/time as P3, so they're gonna need some valid excuse for characters not shooting themselves in the head anymore. Glasses evokers are a logical choice like Koromaru had a collar evoker.
I guess I'm doing as everyone here did, stop playing P3 when FES was announced.
It seems to me as though they are doing the same thing as in Persona 1&2, make similar games with little connection to each other. Maybe 5&6 will be similar on PS3, five years from now.
Omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg!!!
I'm freaking out!!!! Lalilalila! Lalilulelo!
Anybody else here really digging that long black haired chick? She's hawt! P4 is hawt!!!
Can't wait till release date!!!
Suffering from P3 withdrawal till FES hits. And then P4 withdrawal (even if I've never played it) till P4 hits...
Is this a sequel to that old artsy fartsy movie that Ingrid Bergman made?
Will be totally looking foward to this when it hits the shelves July 10th.
Nice to see the game kept its style / music.
Lookin to be mighty hot!
I'll be pre-ordering this whenever the opportunity arrives.
Also am real interested to see how the shadows are delt with in this story also.
Just finished watching the second video. Real good stuff. Only about 3 more months to wait too! This is how games should be announced man. So the wait doesnt 1: bore us to death, 2: they actually have some real shit to show, 3: really gets folks ready to buy the game.
I kinda miss the whole evoker/head shooting in there, can't wait for it to come out. I wonder if have different places for dungeons, and of course, more girls to date. I hope you can at least control your allies, and the MC dying doesn't mean a game over.
Now after watching the trailers, I hope they include the Japanese soundtrack if they release a US version. I knew something was lacking when I was playing through P3 and that was it.
@zerokoolpsx: From what I understand the evokers were for those who are too weak to draw forth the powers of their personas without them.
Granted though it was a nice artistic touch to the game / atmosphere itself.
@Kyle: Actually I dont recall any of the music had been changed from the US to J version.
