Mekensleep's Soul Bubbles is set to hit the DS this summer. The action puzzler features 40 levels, stylus bubble wrangling. It's hard to judge a game by a half-dozen or so screens, but it looks like it has potential.
Eidos Pours Its Heart And Soul Into Nintendo DS
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire/ — Eidos Interactive, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, is pleased to announce Soul Bubbles, an enchanting action-puzzle game coming to Nintendo DS(TM).
Experience the soulful stories of a young shaman apprentice entrusted with saving lost spirits and steering them to safety. Under the guidance of his master, he must protect these fragile souls from the hostile and dangerous world around them by creating mystic bubbles to guide them on their spiritual journey.
"Soul Bubbles is the most refreshing breath of air to debut on Nintendo DS," said Robert A. Lindsey, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Eidos Inc. "The unique bubble physics creates gameplay that DS owners have never experienced before. This combined with a colorful universe and touching storyline is a game sure to engage puzzle fans of all ages."
Using your Stylus, manipulate these mystical bubbles by deflating or expanding them in order to transport your spirits to safety. Fill created bubbles with water and pop them to extinguish dangerous fires or use them to trap harmful gases and blow them away. These incredibly diverse worlds are filled with supernatural challenges, so move your soul bubble gracefully, collecting star dust along the way to allow the light from your protected spirits to shine.
Soul Bubbles features eight divine worlds with over 40 challenging levels that offer a rejuvenating new take on the puzzle genre.
Developed by Mekensleep and designed to charm both hardcore and casual gamers alike — Soul Bubbles is set for release on Nintendo DS(TM) in summer 2008.

Wow, it does look like it has potential ... I love the variety in the shots. I'll have to keep my eye on this one.
I get the feeling that I am going to love this game. What a seemingly heartwarming little world they've made.
I love the background art. Looks like one to watch, though I kinda dread the idea of blowing into the ds more than a couple times in a game.
@Grumps: That's probably the only thing that bothers me (Specially how idiotic I'm going to look playing this on a plane, yay!) but the art direction is top notch.
The microphone mention on one circulating screenshot is very misleading since the game only requires you to use the microphone A SINGLE TIME during the introduction.
I love its look mixing 2-d with 3-d with style! awesome!
Looks pretty neat. Beautifully drawn, if nothing else, no doubt puzzles involving preventing bubbles getting popped could be fun...
@Grumps: I hate blowing into the microphone as a core gameplay mechanic (it's fine every once in a while). That would pretty much break the game for me if it was a core mechanic.
I love the idea behind this game but once again the graphics are not doing it for me.I have been playing my PSP too long i guess.
@notalkjustrock: Ive got to agree. Its like they forget two things when developing games for the DS with this mechanic.
1. Its a handheld which means youre usually out in public on a train or something, screaming or blowing something into this crappy mic like some savage Tourette's suffering hobo.
2. Alot of people own a DS (duh) and theyre not all 10 yrs old and under. Its hard to make an arguement that games are for adults also when you have me blowing imaginary bubbles on the train during rush hour.
And even if you are a kid its not understandable. Who wants to be sitting next that kids who's spastically calling out tricks while playing Nintendogs?
Going just on screenshots and this press release, I'd guess... Loco Roco + Exit?
I'm hoping that this article is right, another one suggested that the game would be out next year.
The game is very beautiful and it's been in production for a long time now. Frédérick Raynal (Creator of Alone in the Dark, Little Big Adventure, Toy Commander) helped out as a consultant! It looks like it will be a fantastic puzzle game.

anybody here thinking of Getting PES for the Wii??
Finally a game with the "unique bubble physics" I've been yearning for...
@Maximoisgood: I'll be grabbing myself a copy of PES, I'm mildly curious what that has to do with this story though?
@Grumps, @zoesch, @notalkjustrock and @Modus_Operandi :
From the press release:
"Using your Stylus, manipulate these mystical bubbles by deflating or expanding them in order to transport your spirits to safety."
There's no mention whatsoever of blowing in the Microphone for manipulating the bubbles.
From the press release, it seems like there will be no need to blow the microphone in order to manipulate the bubbles:
"Using your Stylus, manipulate these mystical bubbles by deflating or expanding them in order to transport your spirits to safety."
is this the sequel to bubble ghost or somthing? i loved bubble ghost on pc's very long ago.
Bubble Ghost was hardcore :)
It's not a sequel, although in some way it could be compared since you're also blowing on a bubble from the outside.
