New Requiem: Bloodymare Screens. Now More Bloodier.

Much like McWhertor, when I first heard about Requiem: Bloodymare, I had pretty high hopes. A bloody, gory MMO sounded awesome but as more and more screens come in I'm left feeling a little let down. They just don't quite cut it for me somehow. Of course, I will reserve my final judgment until I actually play the game, but for now it sort of just strikes me as Warcraft with lots of blood.

  • Ninja Gaiden eat your heart out!! Then stomp on it causing loads of blood to spurt everywhere

  • Bloodymare?

    ...

    Seriously?

  • "just strikes me as Warcraft with lots of blood."

you say that like it's a bad thing.

  • ...it sort of just strikes me as Warcraft with lots of blood.

i'm confused. what's the problem again?

  • Gallons of Jam! Everywhere!

Ever since WoW went all spaceships and sci-fi, I've missed dungeon crawling through my MMO's. Might take a look at either this or Conan.

I'm pretty sure you mean "Now More BloodyMare-ier."

    Right? XD

  • See, this is the thing about gory/horror type games. It's such a fine line between genuinely scary/engrossing and completely banal and corny.

And it's a line that games often just completely obliterate with their super-subtle "add more tentacles and skulls, and turn up the blood levels to 100" design decisions.

    @frank0127: Well, blood sure isn't.

  • This doesn't resemble WoW at all, I would say Diablo more kinda.

  • Game sucks, unless you love asian grindfests,me i like a point however trivial to my gameplay. These fields of a mindless drones that are oblivious to you untill you hit them in asian mmo's just throw me right off.

  • Looks lame and kinda generic

  • needs more blood

  • I've played it (beta's been out for a few weeks); highly disappointing game with a case of WoWnis Envy and almost nothing that could be categorized as "nightmarish". After the initial "pit of agony" tutorial segment, it opens up into traditional fantasy environs with all the trimmings we've seen time and time again since the dawn of time.

The gore seems to consist mainly of mobs dying with great bloody smears and constant decapitations, but I just don't find it very interesting when all's said and done.

Though it was fun watching the players freak out in the noob zones when they saw the character models...one class has great hulking Amazonian female bodybuilders, another quite possibly the most effete male elf-types I've seen, all wearing thongs, Frazetta tops, and "magic package" trousers...

  • Don't worry everyone, it's just ketchup. Good ol' movie magic. Er, game magic. Whichever.

    MORE BLOOD PLZ.

  • This game by far has the worst title Ive heard in awhile. It makes me think of some flash game for some tampon company.

  • @Dukeman330: and skulls! There are never enough of either in any game!

  • Is Dethklok's hit song BLOODTROCUTED going to be in the soundtrack?

  • @Putter5: @Modus_Operandi: It's that bloody 'y'. It just looks so goofy.

  • Ive played the beta, its wow with more blood, if you want something good, wait for conan.

    I WANTS THAT GIANT SWORDS.

  • that looks delicious ^__^

  • The more the (Bloody)merrier...?

You know what would be *AWESOME* if those artists got to work on a *REAL* game like painkiller or condemned, or any of the 4.2 billion other real games that have visceral viscera escaping the bonds of their bowels. I'm not saying blood = great, or that painkiller and condemned are the apex of human achievement, but there's no greater crime than remaking Everquest 1, *YET AGAIN* with another skin. It wasn't a game the first time, it's not going to be a game *this* time. It is a chat program that squeezes your face in between its horrendously acne studded buttocks.

    New plan for MMOs.

Step one, come up with premise for an actual game, for instance something based on asteroids, space sims, action games, fighting games, a tactical RTS, or a tactical squad based strategy game. Hint: Check out planetside.

Step two, balance that basic game so it's something people would play for fun even without loot or levels. Hint: Call of Duty 4.

Step three, add lewt and levels. Hint: Warcraft or just figure out a way to stimulate dopamine release directly.

Step four, add chat program, and avoid destroying everything you've worked to create. Hint: *don't* look at planetside.

  • Ahh, the old glowing runes at feet. That, combined with the other generic fantasy stuff makes this about as interesting as milled flour.

  • Appealing to teenager world wide with its adult rating. Now that's a plan.

  • @ErskinPig: Milled flour!?! Where?! Where?!?

  • Rambo Online, people make it happen! that'd be bloody!

Conan does look good though, this looks lame.

  • Sorry, but nowadays, blood has become a gimmick. I don't think cutting somebody with a sword will cause a colossal wave of blood to drown everyone.

  • @SlowDeath420:
yep you hit the nail right on the head!

  • @Maniclysane: Maybe not but if you cut Oprah there would be a colossal wave of pasta sauce that could drown everyone. This is assuming you could cut through Oprah's tough outer hide which we all know is theoritically impossible. But I digress...

  • @Maniclysane: Red is the new brown.

  • Somewhere amidst all those fountains of blood and gore I'd love to have seen an exposed nipple covered by an NSFW decal. ;)

  • This probably qualifies as breaking the NDA, but god, I am NOT going to keep my mouth shut about a game that's just another MMOG clone.

Flynn, I got into the closed beta. It's utter shit. It's just another asianware MMO. Think Lineage 2 with three different races invented in place of the Dark Elves, Humans, and the Orcs.

There are minor changes to the gameplay such as the DNA-transformation stuff, but that's just a reduxed transformation spell for your own character.

It's garbage. The code is crap, and it is poorly recoded for the Western audience. This is a game that was clearly developed with the asian market in mind, not the Western market - and the aspects of it are just clearly copies of what's already been covered in other MMO's.

Bloodymare is just another clone of a clone of a clone.

The only thing it has going for itself is the "mature" themed crap that is actually watered down.

  • @Vau: Conan is a serious MMO. They're not trying to compete or get a slice of the pie. That's why I'm seriously looking at Age of Conan by Funcom.

  • So... take the winning formula that Blizzard already refined, and add lots of blood and gore so kids and most female gamers won't try it, and then set it in a bland, depressing universe?

Yikes, I have one phrase for whoever decided to fund this project: focus groups.

  • @geekgrrl: Are you stupid? Think about it. World of Warcraft is like your average MMO with a lot more easier mechanics. I think he made a bad comparison though - BloodyMare is more like a dumber version of Lineage II with horrible asian design elements.

  • I've been in the beta for a while and my personal thought was "Ragnarok Online for adults" (which makes sense cuz it's the same team). At first you start off as a "novice" and at level 10 you choose your class. Level 40 or 50 you get your 2nd class.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fine game but it will get it's members for the free to play feature. Quests are "meh" so it's basically just grind, grind, grind.

  • @Odie20XX: I agree here.
The quests are average (kill # of X monsters)
The world is actually kinda nice for a free MMO.
You don't get enough skill points to learn EVERY skill you have available to your class, so you need to specialize and plan, thus making your character build unique.
The quests are well written, and do a good job in guiding you to new areas in a good time frame as you level up.
The only time you should be grinding is if you've run out of quests, which wont happen incredibly often, bit will from time to time.
If your grinding and ignoring quest, and then call it a Grindfest, thats your fault, not the game's.

The itemization is also interesting. Items seem to get a random group of stats rolled to them, so finding new stuff is always a treat.

I haven't played it much yet, since my group keeps flaking out on me. but I've been pleased with it so far.
(For a free MMO. I wouldn't pay for it)

  • @HappyWulf: Kill X number of monsters as a quest is still grinding...

  • @HappyWulf: Killing X number of monsters for a quest is still grinding. If you're doing the quests, which are generally grinding quests, then it isn't unfair to call it a grindfest. I don't enjoy killing 20 raptors when they stole some town's silver any more than I enjoy killing 20 raptors. A quest shouldn't just be a shiny wrapping to make grinding more palatable.

  • More like lineage with lots of blood.

I'd like to see this on a Mac.
