Now that Activision has confirmed Aerosmith is getting its own Guitar Hero release, with a rumored Van Halen version in the works, where to next? Perhaps the Beatles? If the music publishing company that has the rights to the Fab Four's catalog has their way, it just might happen.
According to a report from the LA Times, Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Marty Bandier says that Guitar Hero: The Beatles is "something we have talked about and something I'd like to pursue." Whether that "we" was "me and Activision" or "me and my closest yes-men" wasn't specified, but I would think that, given the right arrangement, Bobby Kotick would agree to such a deal. Maybe we'll get a sitar controller after all.
Beatles tunes might make it to Guitar Hero [LA Times]

Comments
I can't wait 'till Guitar Hero: Daft Punk comes out, since they seem to be wanting every freakin' band in the world.
It's official.. The Guitar Hero series is the new Madden. Rehashes that add nothing to the series, that do little other than line the developer's wallets.
Its something we've talked about then realized how much that would cost
I would buy it immediately. Without question.
DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a bad move.
aerosmith- grudgingly understandable
van halen- completely understandable
but the beatles? there is absolutely nothing shred-ful about the beatles.
Love em, but their music is more suited to Rock Band.
I can only think of a handful of songs with something that would keep most people interested as far as guitar alone goes.
Ugh, come on Harmonix, step up to the plate.
The Beatles are the Fab Four for a reason.
The Beatles would be so much better on Rock Band it boggles the mind.
No. The Beatles should be on Rock Band, not Guitar Hero.
Talk to EA, fools! FOOLISH FOOLS!
Rock Band is the better direction.
I will concur with the aforementioned "ZOMG THEY SHOULD BE ON ROCKBAND INSTEAD" sentiment.
Agreed. Rock Band Beatles would be far superior to GH Beatles.
Bring the Fab Four to Rock Band, not Guitar Hero!
The Beatles on GH would suck without Ringo and George.
Best band ever. Maybe not best possible choice for their own Guitar Hero (if only because GH's "target audience is probably under 3).
Anyone ever heard of Metallica (probably 3rd best band ever)? They're money-hungry and they have a huge back catalog of recognizable and enjoyable songs.
I had completely pulled myself out of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band lines since it's too much money a year but if this comes to fruition then I will at least buy this one.
*under 30 (not 3)
@MegaDethKlok: I meant "under 30", not 3.
Acoustic Guitar Hero is where they should be going. Acoustic Guitar Hero!
the animations gunna look like shit in these versions?
There is no way in hell they are gonna get the rights to those songs. Aerosmith is one thing, getting the rights to the beatles catalog is another, have you ever heard a beatles song in a film that wasn't a cover? How about a commercial? No, because the lisense is sky-high price wise. Not happening.
@Crosswayboy: But if it does I agree with this guy.
Activision is gonna have to spend a fortune.
has anyone mentioned this would be better in rock band yet?
NO NO NO! Leave my precious Beatles alone, gaming world!
It's been said but I'd much rather have Rock Band. Seems unlikely though and I could imagine that this type of business model is way more attractive than having songs released online as DLC since this gives a shitload more money because of how many songs they get to sell at once.
I thought Michael Jackson still owned the Beatles tracks...
Guitar Hero? ROCK BAND DAMMIT!
Aerosmith GH is gonna tank
It'd be worth the price. Trust me.
@tralfaz23:
I second that. Would be way cooler a la Rock Band.
*sigh* Although this is exciting, I am deeply saddened by the fact that there are still no plans for a Dora the Explorer Theme Song DLC........
I guess I'm with everyone else. Bring out Metallica, and send the Beatles over to Rock Band.
I'd MAYBE go buy GH if they had a Metallica version. Maybe. Love the music, just not so sure on the game.
@Nesagwa: Exactly! They were a group that was only REALLY good together... They deserve to be all together with all the instruments together.
Besides, I'd love to play some of Ringo's stuff!
Ha, no I'm kidding. Sorry Ringo!
McWhertor, don't you play like, ten thousand games a day? You must be really hardcore if you found the time to get far enough into The Simpsons Game to come up with that reference. All hail the 1337 king.
@MegaDethKlok: "Anyone ever heard of Metallica (probably 3rd best band ever)? "
Must... suppress... music... elitism... must... not... laugh... at... that... statement....
@2NinjasTapedTogether: I'd love to be, under the sea, in an octopus's garden, in the shade :P I would love that song on Rock Band
@2NinjasTapedTogether: Ringo on Rain is quite possibily the best drumming in the history of rock.
Whoa, I think I would definitely invest in this installment ... the other ones don't make me that excited ...
I'm going to add, not quite sure if most share the share the same sentiment, but uh, Rock Band. For goodness sakes, that makes way too much sense.
WTF can't they just give us download-able content?
So does this mean there will be a 12 string Guitar Hero controller coming out before release?
@ emag: "She Said She Said" is also right up there with "Rain" for mucho Ringo goodness.
As noted ad nauseum, better suited to Rock Band.
I don't care much for artist-specific stuff. I'd rather have a mix, the wider the better. Except Johnny Cash. I'd buy an entire console just for his music, to be honest.
@MegaDethKlok: well if metallica's your 3rd. here's my top 10
1) The Beatles
2) Led Zeppelin
3) The Rolling Stones
4) Black Sabbath
5) Aerosmith
6) Queen
7) Guns N' Roses
8) Motley Crue
9) Metallica
10)Slayer
ANYTHING with The Beatles on it is a MUST BUY for me.
Not a fan of one-band themed games. Why don't they just adopt the Rock Band model and released DLC every week and rake in the money that way? That would leave them time to make a real sequel to GH3 instead of these cash-in Rock the 80's style games.
I am waiting for Hip-Hop Hero: The Roots
If Rock Band 2 comes with Led Zeppelin....Guitar hero is really over...
No franchise can ever just die. It has to have the life and integrity choked from it's body until it lies in a broken heap as a pale, hollow shadow of its former self.
I can't wait for Guitar Hero: American Idol Edition, you soulless bastards.
@Nside:
Yes Michael Jackson still owns the rights to the Beatles catalog of songs, however his creditors are in control of it as an asset.
Interesting MJ question:
would you prefer a Michael Jackson Guitar Hero?
guitar hero with only one band's songs:
terrible, self-serving, fun-killing idea.
whether it's a great band or an awful one.
they only see profits, with fanboys and die-hards as guaranteed purchases.
the only reason i won't boycott the rest of the series
is that they've suckered me into buying their guitar,
and i have to buy more guitar hero games to play with it.
I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'd hate to see the Beatles catalog whored out for a video game that's already been released several times. On the other hand, despite having no interest at all in GH, I'd probably buy this. >.<
@emag: If there's a Beatles' joke, I'll make Ringo the butt of it!!!
I love his drumming, but he's such an easy target!
You guys are right, Rockband Beatles would be awesome. I wanna be Paul!
And it would be pretty cool to play the sitar parts of Within You and Without You.
