Europe's delay in getting Smash Bros Brawl is causing great amounts of distress. So it's good to know that amidst all the wailing and teeth-gnashing, somebody can see the funny side of it all. Above is a shot of the game's product page from the online store of British supermarket chain Tesco. Obviously not a release date that's come from Nintendo themselves, but hey, the way things are going it may not end up being too far off the mark!

Not funny. :(
Hilarious.
Well, at least it's coming. I suppose.
Lol, hey we get MK a few days before US... that should compensate for the 9 month delay on Brawl... not!!!
The political system makes me want to live in Europe, but the release date system makes me proud to be an American.
I stay here. Yes, my priorities are straight.
oh, so they pushed it forward?
Wow, they've moved it forward!
@Manny: Ah curses...beaten to the joke...
XD
I'm pretty sure many hearts from our European brethren skipped a few beats upon seeing this ad. Seriously though, they get screwed over far too much with game releases.
Ahhhhh Tesco.... always the optimist!!
If it eases anyone's pain, that wasn't done deliberately by whomever at Tesco put the product listing up. I've seen new product listings with that date several times before so it would seem it is in actual fact just a place holder, not someone having a laugh.
I lold but on the inside I am crying.
@The Amazing Exploding-Man:
The US political system is far superior to the EU's - I think what you mean is, you want the American people to vote more like Europeans do... unlike the system which is 2 steps removed from actual democracy for the EU.
Go Switzerland!
I would actually be surprised if Tesco supplied this, every time I go in there, the Wii titles are one's I've never heard of, bar Mario & Sonic at the Beijing Olympics.
Go Tibet!
Maybe by then the Wii online matchmaking will actually work.
Nah, I'm dreaming.
@Chadders: I don't even care if we change the current division of powers in the U.S., one thing I like about most EU countries is they have multi-party elections where 2 or more parties are forced to form coalition goverments after a contentious election. I would prefer that, with its inherent complications, to the current system in the U.S. where for a few weeks after one party crushes the other they pretend there might be some cooperation on vital issues...right up until one of those issues comes up and they start bickering like small children again.
I think maybe there needs to be an update letting people know that Datel's Freeloader basically works an absolute treat!
Freeloader+NTSC import=Success.
I've got SSBB booted right now, and there hasn't been a single issue. Been able to selective update for the Dual layer stuff, no Nintendo intervention as of yet, not a single (additional to the common) glitch.
When it's released they'll wonder why it didn't sell very well. Then they'll think again "Gah, it's not worth it releasing games in Europe, we've even made the dojo and they didn't care."
We cared, we imported it long ago.
Same old song, anyway.
@AllOfUsAreLost:
How is the online Brawling working out?
Bah! I am going to be paying a larger sum of money to import Smash Bros with Freeloader to be able to play the game. And as someone else said Nintendo will wonder why the sales for Europe for Smash Bros are (will) be way be low set expectations.
seeing as how we still haven't got Rock Band over here yet I for one am not surprised that another publisher has the reaction of "PAL who?" when it comes to game releases
Do they really think it will sell that well? by 2020 they will have some stock pile.
I'm playing it right now thanks to freeloader, so FUCK YOU, NoE
@Chadders: It's not. You can connect to WFC and are assigned a friend code but you never make it to play an actual match, even as a spectator. I expected that though - seems it's not even running smooth in released territories, certainyl didn't expect it to work here. Will trade my NTSC copy for PAL once it finally arrives but I'll get plenty of playtime in before then.
do you think the saves will carry over though?
@The Amazing Exploding-Man: @Chadders: @DaiMacculate: ah brawl, bringing politics to the masses.
I figured there's a publisher wide conspiracy trying to deny europe games. It's revenge for all those British Empire days.
@Jekht: I don't see why not. I don't think saves are region specific
@wizardofoz85: I was trying to be nice and just not talk about how much everybody in the States is enjoying Brawl already...DAMN! See look what you made me do!
:P
Some EU country should take the lead and do what Canada has done, ridiculous tax breaks for game devs. A few more homegrown/based devs over there might help.
Not with Nintendo, of course. They hate you guys more than us, for some reason ;)
@Josh*: I live in London UK and have SSBB US version. Online random matches work fine(sometimes laggy) I have to play after around 9pm when the Americans are on. I have also added many European people from a forum who have also imported-and the friends matches are great, totally lag free.
Only problem is no way of communicating,even with friends. Feels very strange having a great match, and having to remain silent...you do get 4 pre-typed messages as taunts tho... :(
Nintendo is an awful company to have such a long delay when they are seriously rich and have the resources to release it worldwide. They said we'd get mario kart last year too and now we're waiting on that. As I always say though Nintendo sucks, Sony sucks, MS sucks but Wii, 360 and PS3 rock.
@Arcadewolf:
Is that with a US-Wii or using Freeloader?
Funny and heartbreaking at the same time.
THat's hilarous. And true.
You Euros need to be more understanding, there is a lot of localization work which needs to be done when releasing a game in Europe and Nintendo has like one Eighty year old dude with a couple of dozen Japanese to whatever dictionaries working as hard as he can to get those games out to you. You should really be more appreciative or perhaps you should have just surrendered to the Germans like you were supposed to.
@susurrate:
lol whut?
I feel bad for you guys getting stuff late. I also feel bad for not feeling bad enough to tell game companies to do something about it.
@susurrate: ahahah....wait that wasn't funny at all
I lol'd, despite the tears in knowing it's probably true.
@The Amazing Exploding-Man: I'm bailing on this continent the day your continent lets me, primarily for sooner stuff and easily-acquired Mt Dew. I'm glad others have similar priorities!
@Manny: Aaaaaand I lol'd and cried again.
My US copy arrived today and im playing it with the freeloder. It runs absolutely perfect. Even the online works, although its really laggy.
@susurrate: That's a stupid remark, if they only have one then they should get more. If they can localize it to english why not german in the same time? Or why does the UK need to wait so long when it's been translated to english already? Seriously it's just a really bad system and we shouldn't be grateful for being ignored really.
Screw it, just bought the US version and freeloader, I'll be playing it within the next two weeks with luck :)
My gf bought a freeloader and US version but it comes up in black and white, she was told it was possibly cos of her joint scart lead or something. Should it be fixable with a normal scart lead?
@-Sigil
It sounds like your girlfriend's TV might not accept 60 fps or NTSC (we Europeans use PAL, but most new sets can handle both formats). Check the manual to the TV.
In my opinion, as long as all your Scart leads are fully pushed in to where they are supposed to go, they're unlikely to be the problem.
I think it was that it was an old 50hz tv, okay then thanks.
@Chadders: Using free loader on a UK launch day Wii
I laughed. xD
I thought making unknown release dates as 1-1-2020 and 1-1-2012 was a common practice. I've seen some sites do that.
Typical British humour.
thanks for the laugh, but i bet Freeloader is laughing hard, laughing all the way to the bank too.
NoE you don't like cross region compatibility, thus you make money for third parties, for that. Thank you, thank you for letting us spank you silly. :)
XD This is friggin' hilarious!
*goes and plays Brawl*
I was just playing SSBB with a few friends last night.....fuck i can't get enough of it! If I was european and found out about this release date, i'd shit some bricks lol....thank god its not true.
Thank god i bought a US copy and a freeloader, should be brawling by tomorrow :D
I bet it will come out then
LOL-Post of the Day! Could it be that the typesetter or editor of this ad is a UK gamer who's constantly frustrated with the delays in releases for PAL
