Pre-Order Street Fighter IV, Now Just $2590

DRAGON PUNCHIf you don't need the bells and whistles of a fully networked arcade set up for Street Fighter IV and you're willing to settle for a bit of local one-on-one, importer NCSX has you covered. They're soliciting SFIV hardware for pre-order starting today, due to ship at the end of August. It'll only set you back about $2590 (with an $880 deposit required), which is reasonable enough. More reasonable that $23,000 for the whole kit and the kaboodle. Oh, it's completely beyond my personal means, but if you've already got the arcade cabinet up and know how to install a Taito Type X2 PCB, this might be for you.

The full package comes with panel artwork, Street Fighter IV network ID cards and a Versus Communication Kit—you could technically take your fights online—and, of course, the game itself. Let us know if you plan on picking one up.

*sells car* DOwn Payment here i come. *if you people knew me i don't have a car*

  • That's one expensive paperweight.

Is there an arcade left in the U.S. that could still make enough in quarters/tokens to pay off $2,590 -- much less $23,000? Yikes! No wonder the arcade business died off here.

  • no

  • // walk in room to see this posted//

umm how about no? seriously, if i was loaded i still wouldnt pay for an arcade that won't even have the complete roster of fighters. this is absurd.

// slams door on the way out//

  • Off to go play Tekken 6, forget this noise!

  • succubus wanted $250th and i said no. but i told him i wouldn't give him any, he kep begging. hint south park.

  • Arcades now just cater to the hard core. They usually have a dedicated band of regulars who play in them and host tournaments and the like.

    The ones that are left.

On the positive side, they are usually very clean and the machines extremely functional. They'll probably get a copy of this game at the arcade I go to in Southern California.

  • alternative haunted ms. pac-man worth less and you get a ghostly image.

@dexterr: It was the Loch Ness monster that wanted $3.50 or "Tree-fitty".

    U = Fail

  • Hmm, I would love to drop this into my MvsC cabinet. But then again I dont have any where near 2.5k to spare.

Damn, here's hoping for emulation to pick up my slack

  • maybe if it has DLC.

  • Heh, don't count on a new Taito board to be emulated anytime soon. This is the same hardware running KOF XII, the new SamSho, BlazBlue, Battle Fantasia, etc.

This would've been sweet to put in my old Neo Geo sitdown cab, but there's no point in buying a Japanese PCB when an all-English version is sure to arrive stateside a little later, at a more attractive price.

  • i hope dave and busters picks up this game. that's certainly the only place i know that is left that would have arcade video games.

  • If I win the lottery I will totally hit this up.

  • That's an offer I cannot refuse! Oh wait, I'm poor :(

  • I'm sure they will have this at Golfland in Milpitas, CA. *checks Google Maps* Yay only 79.7 miles away. Worth it.

  • And I just dropped twice that on an engagement ring! even though she is a gamer too, I doubt she would understand. Here's waiting until it comes out console-side.

  • That cabinet costs as much as my car! If it could drive me to work I might consider it.

  • These prices are about par for the course on new arcade game kits these days. I suspect a number of places around here will get these, if for no other reason than the relative lack of new arcade releases around here.

  • Don't you wish you were rich? One of my dreams is to have a huge arcade room in a huge mansion.

  • I am so pre-ordering that. Not even joking. I have the money in my pocket right now.

  • I'm getting this, 100% confirmed.

I was so close to buying Tekken 6 at around $12,000... but opted not to... It was a very hard decision for me.

This one is a no brainer...

  • I'd rather blow the $2600 on a tricked out rig than the guts for one arcade game. You could get quad-core, SLI, etc. for that price.

  • Shweet. Pre-order confirmed.

Tekken 6 is fun, but getting a 220v cab running in your north american basement is a pain...

I'll pass on that nonsense for a second time.

  • You guys are thinking from the "let me put some witty comment down" perspective. Tisk tisk.

After reading the headline I thought, damn I could buy one of these and potentially flip it. Now I don't know squat about arcade games, but I'm sure that $2600 for an arcade game is CHEAP. Then I read the fine print and realized that it was only the hardware. Eek.

I don't even have a place for a damn arcade machine in my apartment (its 550 square feet) but if it was $2,600 I sure as sh*t would have pre-ordered it.

  • @reddevil3: If you were rich it probably means that to obtain your wealth you would have learned what it means to earn money as well as what it means to lose money.

The electricity costs alone to run a room of arcade machines would probably deter you from ever going through with it.

Just get a MAME compatible joystick and play it on your computer. Its not the same, but it's less of a headache... plus its something you can do RIGHT NOW!

  • I got excited for a second until I realized it wasn't for the whole thing. At first I was thinking there is no way that can be right; just the Namco or Nintendo triple game cabinets alone are worth around $2500 (and totally awesome).

    Ah well. :)

  • @Strangelove: True, but with a real arcade cabinet you can get the best controls for those kinds of games. A friend of mine owns several arcade machines and while I can buy most of those games on XBLA online for a few bucks, the control and feel just isn't the same thing.

Plus they look awesome in a game room. :)

  • @KoolAidMan:

Yeah, but you could buy an arcade joystick peripheral for a fraction of the price ...

I actually prefer a d-pad to a joystick for fighting games, myself. I find it more precise and easier to double-tap (i.e. to sidestep in Soul Calibur).

I'm sure people have varying tastes, and one of my dreams is to put together a MAME cabinet for Marvel Vs. Capcom/etc., but I couldn't justify spending $2600 for a single game. (Although, admittedly, I spend like $700 at launch for the original XBox just to play Halo.)

Another cabinet I would love to buy: The old-school vector-graphics Star Wars. Believe it or not, an antique store in my hometown had an original Star Wars cabinet for sale at $100 in the mid-90s. Alas, I was a teenager and didn't have that kind of money. Today, I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat.

  • I would buy a kit if they were not sold out.

  • Ahh man my wife would kill me, but I'd love to see it up and running on the candy cab in my game room.

  • there won't be emulation for the taito x2 for at least 10-15 years. The fact that the board is the equivalent to a top end PC now makes the idea of emulation laughable. I'll be waiting for the console release and those hoping for a free solution can seriously forget it. I shudder to think of a taito x2 burning out due to someone trying to dump it.

  • @Strangelove: Sometimes price is not a factor. Frivolous purchases are fine if you can really afford it and you want to treat yourself. :)

There is something about a real arcade cabinet for some games, and while the good old Nintendo d-pad is one of the greatest things ever created (I don't like the the ones on the 360 and PS controllers), there is a lot to be said for a solid arcade stick. Heck, I own an X-Arcade stick, and while it is an excellent piece of hardware I still can't deny the whole cabinet package.

Yeah, I'll probably be buying either a MAME cabinet or something like the Ms. Pacman/Galaga/Pacman cabinet when I build a house. BTW, great call on the Star Wars arcade machine, those things are classic.

  • @DasKonstruct: (disclaimer: this is from memory and i'm incredibly tired right now so if there is something slightly wrong...mea culpa) the taito type x2 is just a pc, yes, which means that emulating it will be easier because it doesn't have to be emulated. type x2 games are essentially a hard-drive and a security key and the system itself is windows. therefore so long as the security key is hacked the game can conceivably be played on any windows pc with enough power. case in point- recent iidx releases. with a dump of the iidx harddrive for any release past 9th style and a hacked executable it can be run on a standard windows pc.
so i'm definitely not saying its going to be easy or happen tomorrow, but it won't take 10-15 years.

  • @Sloopydrew: Yes, considering they are $1.00/play now. In the mall hallway or a small center both, or at the movies, bowling alley or skating rink. I can see those getting enough traffic.

Oh shit I must buy one.

Although no room for an arcade cabinet currently in my place of residence. D:

  • pre-orders been closed, They cant not sale these items and gave out bad info. Sucks
    Update: March 14, 2008 at 10:30PM EST
After a receiving a slew of inquiries concerning the Street Fighter IV kit, we called our Japanese distributor to make sure they had the pricing correct. Unfortunately, there was an error in their offer. Please note that Japanese distributors are only allowed to sell the entire network kit which consists of four complete Type-X2 + HDD sets, the VS Communication Kit, four control panels, and 100 Network I.D. cards. Our supplier assumed they would be able to split the kits up and parcel them out one-by-one. Due to the change in terms, we have closed this preorder offer for the time being. If a true single-user kit is made available for preorder, we'll update accordingly. Thanks.

  • there not running the pre-order any more. They were given bad info and can not sale the singles like they had thought

  • @FrigidAir44:

let me guess, ffc i wouldnt doubt it @ all as third strike players are there all the time. I play often but not enough to be hardcore but still good enough to be in tournys so no worries.

  • I wonder if this game will run on a standard arcade monitor or if I would need to buy and HD monitor for my arcade cabinet? Anyone know?

  • Image of Mr.SithNinja Mr.SithNinja at 11:36 AM on 03/17/08 *

@Witzbold: Isn't an arcade cabinet the typical size of an apartment in Japan? ;)
