Courtesy of Ubisoft, here's five new screens for upcoming PS3 shooter Haze, which have only been slightly (OK, more than slightly) touched-up by the company's make-up artists. Don't know why they bothered, thought the game looked fine on its own merits. Oh well. Anyone interested in picking the game up, playing the game to completion then getting some hefty in-store credit at GameStop should be made aware it's due to hit in May.

Looks good but slightly generic like haven't i seen this in another shooter?
What i just said and that 4x4 looks a bit like a warthog from afar.
I wonder if GAME here in england will do that trade in deal? Not that it matters because I'll keep it anyways, but its something I puzzle over. Vehicle to vehicle combat looks pretty fun, I hope they can work four players into one unstoppable tank machine.
@Cchrist: Looks more like a Puma...
(I love Red vs Blue)
This was a must buy for me but it does look pretty generic. I would have bought back in November, but I got COD4, and I really don't want to play any more FPS games that's why I bought a PS3, but it seems sony is not going there old ways . They need to get in there niche of unique and rpg games like they always been but whatever.
The trade-in credit deal is only at Canadian gamestops and ebgames. It does not apply to the US gamestops, and gamestop reiterated that yesterday in an email.
Love my FPS games...thats why I bought a 360 as well. Looking forward to Haze but there's alot of games coming out for PS3 soon. I'll be spoilt for choice!!!
It's been pretty hard to remain excited about this game....too many delays and now it just doesnt have that wow factor anymore.
@PaddyStardust:
Griff stop making up animals.
@Plunkett:
Why do you say "more than slightly" touched up? These look comparable to the anti-aliased Halo3 shots. To me this says "in-engine shots with AA" at worst. At best, they are representitive of in game visuals. Please explain? (to use a phrase coined by the dark queen)
What's the source?
@Ruffstik - Yeah!
WTF, I don't want screenshots, I want the F'ing game already.
@Plunkett: Looking at the screenshots, they appear to be "in-engine shots with anti-aliasing". They may be representative of actual gameplay. At worst they are Halo 3 style screenshots, at worst in-game. Please explain? (to use a phrase coined by the dark queen)
What's the source of these touch-ups?
Wow! HAZLO! a new ip.....
These look great, I hope they offer some sort of demo BEFORE they release the game. The PSN is getting better everyday, but I still cannot understand why they wait to release demos until after a game releases for most titles. (at least the US PSN)
@Scipher: Every big publishers always touch-up their screenshots, it something people in the industry just know. Whole groups of people jobs main responsibility is to edit the screenshots to make the color look more vibrant, remove a blur, add an effect, even add "perfect-looking" muzzle flash, like the ones in those screens.
@GameraTheGreat: Wow master chief new armor OMGFTW!!!1
err just rent it...so if you forget to bring it back you only pay like 3$ worth of extra time....and not 70$
Oh, no, space marines! What fevered mind would come up with a game about space marines? I imagine the dialogue is riveting:
"Damn I hate these [insert annoying small and agile alien species here]."
"Its quiet... too quiet"
Create your own!
I like the graphics but they just admitted it was touched up so you won't even get that. I have disliked the Haze game for a while now but I started to turn around to it when I saw some of the dialogue. Now I'm dissapointed again cos if they aren't happy enough to show it as is then something must be wrong.
man this was a must buy for me. But now the delays has hurt it. I will probably buy it after the price goes down on ebay or something. I'm just waiting on GTAIV and MGS4 now. Too bad they took to long b/c it was an exclusive, I always want to see exclusives do good but you can't delay a game like that. If you are having issues then just disappear and come back with mass marketing.
@WhiskeyJak: I agree, absolutely, but I always like to have official confirmation.
E3 2005. Remember.
*grin*
@Lokno: It appears to be set on Earth, in the future. No space marines, just mercs.
i dont care for this game. Resistance 2 will destroy this game. plus in the sea of games i will be playing,MGS4,GTA4,GT5 Prologue..... this game is not worth it, to me at least. i can wait for fall to get my FPS on, thank you.
@Lokno: Yeah all games have been derivative ripoffs since Doom, SiN, Blood, Heretic and Duke Nukem 3D came out.
/sarcasm.
Wonder why people don't say the same thing about Gears?
@zoesch: Because it had a chainsaw on a gun.
Ass called. They want their good name to stop being associated with HAZE.
@Scipher: Small comfort
@zoesch: I kid, I kid. I would rather games pick new and exciting settings, though.
Am I the only person on the planet who is, dare I say, excited about this game? I don't get what all the hate is about. The plot progression (at least, the twist part) looks unique, and also foreshadows the campaign's ability to stay fresh.
The whole nectar aspect (on both sides of the twist) look fun to play with as well. The need to not overdose as a Mantel troop and the ability to strap a nectar container to a grenade look like cool gameplay mechanics.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for shooters, or maybe I haven't forgotten the track record Radical has, but I'm looking forward to this game.
I will definitely pick this up if it ever comes out.
@ShirtGuyDom:
I WAS really excited about this game, back when it was supposed to come out in November...
Since then I've kinda lost interest. I'm by no means a hater, but I doubt I'll be getting it day one anymore.
@ShirtGuyDom: I'm also interested in this game, and I have been ever since I realized who was making it.
It sure looks like a generic shooter, but if it compares with GoldenEye and Timesplitters, I'm sure it'll be lots of fun.
I play UT3 with a bunch of hardcore shooter fans, and they all have it preordered. I guess they know their stuff. Maybe.
@ShirtGuyDom: hey, at least it has novelty appeal.
consider me genuinely excited for now.
I guess I am one of those who is interested in the story/perspective this game takes. However, I can't help but give a collective "meh" for yet another shooter. I will take the wait and see, and try to keep an open mind in the event that the story and other elements come together for this game.
@KirbyMorph: True that!
I think it looks great and all, but im losing faith that hitting a button to give yourself a boost is as revolutionary(read: fresh, new etc.) as they are trying to make it seem. Take away that feature and it's just another shooter with some good co-op features added on.
I haven't even seen what the multiplayer is like. Must not be too awesome if all they talk about is co-op, and nothing about DM or CTF or whatever they're doing.
@ShirtGuyDom: I'm somewhat excited too, don't get me wrong. But the fact that they ALREADY revealed to us what the twist is- the dude defects and joins the rebel faction, along with us seeing very little other than "oh noes, screen turns yellow and he shoots all the glowing people" along with the same clip of the buggy sequence, I fear they have little else to offer, and have already spilled all their beans.
Hope it turns out good. They spent extra time, and the Ubisoft people overseeing the development seemed pretty picky, so fingers crossed!
although it left my purchase list4now,the game can feel free to make me buy it...
One part Motorsrom, one part Warhawk, and one part mystery sauce. It's looking good. I'm sure it'll be fun. A lot of work was put into this game it seems between now and when they last released screens; it shows. It went through an "Army of Two"-like transformation. Not bad at all though I would love to see a video of game play as it is now.
I just didnt dig the stupid green flourescent marker colored gear / fishbowl the guys wear in the company faction.
I guess without that the game wouldnt really be haze.
@Cchrist
Yea! I'm not bashing it because it's a PS3 exclusive, but the art direction is a tad too spot on....Warthogs, giant "landcarriers"....Looks like PS3 fans get their own Halo-lite....I wonder if their hate for Halo 3 will vanish as many consume this near carbon copy...
I just pray for MASSIVE MP with use of all types of vehicles kinda like Warhawk.
Since Im diggin those V-22 looking troop carriers in the pictures. Would love to fly one of those around and drop off my mates onto the battlefield.
too much hate in this topic, it looks like a great game for the PS3, but the hate here is too much for me. No one can't say that this game didn't took elements from another games like many other FPS did but, it looks awesome, it will play awesome, and it will be an awesome game, but... why the hate? it's because is a PS3 exclusive?
@ShirtGuyDom: Well, for me it's a couple of factors: I don't get the "twist" - I understand it, and see what they were trying to do, but the whole "you've been lied to for about half the story" schtick is closing to the top of the tired cliché list and fast. The fact that it's been discussed and emphasised as much will only work to make it even more tired and unmoving - it's hard to have an emotional reaction when you know it's gonna happen. It'll be like going to a whodunit knowing that the butler did it with the chandelier in the kitchen.
Aside from that, nothing really sounds special about the game, except this "nectar" thing, which while cool in concept, I haven't seena video where the mechanic shines - and in more than one, it's been an annoyance.
reminds me of an assault map on ut2k4 ; still on the fence with this title, current gen sci-fi shooters have to do a LOT to set themselves apart :P
I cant believe we're still putting up with this "touched up " bullshit.
Getting it.
I must say, I like the Gamestop "play it for a week we give you retail in store credit back". My question on that deal though....does the Edge stack with that? Would I get $66 in credit instead of $60? If so, you would be gaining $6 in credit while essentially getting to rent a game for a week. Sounds pretty good to me.
Looks like PDZ only slightly better...wuts with the plastic look...or is it just me?
@Lokno: Space marines..? where?
I really liked the story, screenies look fine - might just rent for a while.
This game could be potentially very good.
However, the long delay and the fact that some other seriously good games have come out and are coming out to PS3 this year, have definitely put a damper on the excitement.
@Scipher: dont be stupid. everyone is touching up their games now.
cept for those shit ass wii games.
This isn't the first time Ubisoft's games have screenshots that are miles away from the actual game.
*Looking at Red Steel*
Landcarriers huh. My guess is you have to send in a contractor to the place you're invading a year in advance to build roads for them.
Nice warthog/pelican pics. Oh, wait.
@Gambare: It's because some think they are being cheated by the fact they got touched up images or something like that. I really don't see why this matters as they're screenshots after all plus can't developers promote their games however they want to. Too much bitching for no real reason these days.
One of only three PS3 games I'm interested in.
@okenny :): it doesnt bother me too much anymore,'cept it's deceptive for regular people.
so this is far cry 3, NICE!!!!
