Is it me? Have we been unnervingly short on Mario Kart Wii media or am I just getting antsy? The thing is launching next month and gameplay video has been, well, a bit scarce in my opinion. Maybe I've just been living under a thwomp, but finally seeing Princess Peach in her biker outfit doing trick-splits is like a breath of fresh air! Honestly, it looks like they're phoning this one in just a tad, tossing in bikes and tricks to keep us happy, but that may be all it takes. I just hope the online play is up to snuff!

This game better god damn well not be late :(
Not too keen on those Gamecube-like graphics but I'll be getting it anyway as the playability will no doubt be up to scratch.
even if it is crap, it will still sell like...
well...
like a mario game on a nintedo system
I'm actually happy that Nintendo didn't go full out with Mario Kart Wii media. After the info / spoiler fest that was Brawl, it's always nice to have a game that you know is going to be great or, at the least, enjoyable one way or the other, but you don't know absolutely everything about it. It makes the game's release all the more exciting.
Graphics are, of course, not the best but I like what I see. Nice framerate, gameplay is more or less the same but what's wrong with updating a franchise if each addition is fun?
After Super Mario Galaxy I expect more from the Wii graphics wise. Add in the Miis and that stupid wheel and this has to be the least excited I've ever been for a Mario Kart game.
This really looks like a lot of fun.
@Michael: Can you post any links to an HD version of the video?
I spent the whole video looking at lap times for each of the tracks shown. The thing I hated the most about Double Dash, besides the lack of a hop button, was the ridiculously short tracks. One good thing I noticed about Mario Kart Wii was there was at least one track that takes more than a minute to complete a lap. I really hope there are more than a few long courses in Mario Kart Wii.
"finally"?
Peach doing those jumps on a bike seemed dirty, not MAximum risky dirty like her up skirt shots, just dirty like closet pervet dirty
I was not looking forward to this game at all to be honest, but I think this video has changed my mind... and it has nothing to do with peach doing mid-air splits on a bike...
Nice! Have to admit it looks really fun and also FAST! Much faster than previous incarnation's.
@okenny :): Sorry, no HD version at GameTrailers. There are two other clips, though!

With all the racers i've played lately (Dirt, motorstorm, PGR....) This seems really dull and boring. Not to mention I played the same series how many times?
Maybe Nintendo should... oh wait I shouldn't say it.... ah hell why not.... make something new?
Peach...doing splits...mmmmm.
I uhh, need to get this game....for the wheel, you know?
I think the only update it really needed was better online play support. Double Dash was fun the few times I played online, but there were only like 1 or 2 other people on besides myself and my brother. I wish they would have gotten rid of snaking though.
I don't want to sound like a troll but man. The game kind of looks like crap and I'm not just talking about the graphics. It just looks a little....generic. That and I keep getting that vibe of a cheap 3rd party Mario Kart rip-off Like it's actually HudsonSoft Racer with Nintendo skins.
I don't know. Maybe some battle mode vids would change my mind.
The only thing I really enjoyed is the Balloon battle. 4 vs. 4 baby!
Everything else is a big MEGH From me. and what's up with the Mii ads?!
@silentbobfan:
I'm with you. I'm a huge Mario Kart fan, but this just looks a lot less frantic than Double Dash, almost like a step backwards. I'll still probably end up getting it for online play (granted it's more stable than Brawl's), but right now it just looks boring and mediocre. I'm not feeling any excitement.
Bowser flipping out on a bike is always a good time.
@Spartan1308: snaking is one of the best things in Mario Kart.
well, i guess i'm buying this XD :)
Mario Kart 64 actually felt like a racing game.
Double Dash felt like some strange happy land that you kind of roam around in and not race in.
There is so much this game could be. Why not give it the same edge and graphic appeal as the recent Smash Bros. game? It could be a great racing game but then again isn't everything better when we imagine...
Looks fun... too bad it's coming out around GTA... that means I probably won't be buying it. They should "Rethink" their release date like with all of the other Wii game.
I'm a huge fan of Nintendo games and the Mario Kart series in general, but whats with these graphics? They don't even look up to Double Dash level, or at least the characters don't. I don't understand why this happens when games like Brawl and Galaxy look so good.
Hooray for Peach shamelessly spreading her legs on every jump!
Oh, wait, that's not happiness, that's internal organ failure! I'm dying of broken promises and crushed dreams.
IGN's the one that's been posting loads of crap to their site about the game. I think that they have it in-house so they're just writing it up a lot.
@Guitaratomik: I completely agree with you, yet ... I'll probably still buy it. My gf and her daughter would probably have fun with it, so that would make it worthwhile.
Still, so far, it doesn't look impressive.
What's the point of the bikes? It doesn't look like it changes gameplay at all? Although I still think Super Mario Kart is the best, and never played DD on Cube.
I feel like the courses don't quite have that mario kart feel to them. They seem kind of empty and too open. It's hard to articulate what's wrong but I'm not digging it.
Peach on a motorbike, in motorcycle tights, doing the splits...a bit suggestive...
Either way, very looking forward to racing on motorcycle! And online! (if it works)
I'm pretty sure I've played this already
@YouAteMyCheeto:
Yeah. I think that's part of the problem. The tracks are humongously wide. HUMONGOUSLY!
Boo, I want another Double Dash!
@okenny :): @Michael: Can you post any links to an HD version of the video?
Is there such a thing as a HD video of a Wii game?
@fragdurarsh & Guitaratomik: I totally agree.
I was totally underwhelmed by that video. I was hoping (with all the hype I'd heard) that it'd be a great game for the Wii. It still might be a great game, but I've seen nothing that would give me more than 10 minutes of entertainment.
It might have a lot more legs if they got the online right, but everyone knows that's not going to happen.
Excitebike + Mario Kart = Mario Kart Wii
I've stopped caring about Mario Kart since Mario Kart 64, the best version, which also laid down the groundwork for every following release.
So Peach's sole trick is to spread her legs? Who would have guessed?
It reminds me a lot of Mario Kart DS, which is a good thing as I loved it. I do spy a Baby Peach in there, I wonder what other characters will make appearances. Also love the use of the Miis in some of the stages like on posters and driving cars as obstacles.
i didn't play Double Dash as much as I should've.
I need to go and pick up a copy >.>
DS version is better than N64 version in my opinion.
and the SNES version i love dearly.
but If i had to pick my favorite.
i might have to say DS...
at the moment..
i didn't even mention Super Circuit.
i did play through that too..
that one was solid.
Just me or does it look like they went overboard with the bloom? O_o
@Guitaratomik: Well not trying to be a troll but many ps3 and 360 games looks like cr@p compared with some pc games...
From what i saw in the video, it meets all the expectations of a mk game, it looks fun, all the basic stuff is right there, as a mk fan i like it even if it doesnt had the most shiny graphics...
Looks like a good old fashioned high fiving, laugh riot. I'll take two.
Releasing 3 top tier games within the space of 3 months..What is nintendo's strategy here?
Also, is Mario Kart Wii by a Nintendo B-team ?
Lets hope the online works a little better than it does currently in brawl. Which it wont.
I don't mind I pay money for Xbox Live. It seems to work much better. Not to say its perfect, just better.
I think the PSN probably works pretty good too, even if it has a weaker interface.
Is it just me? or are the roads way more wider than previous installments. Maybe it's the 16:9, hopefully it's the 16:9.
@TOCATL:
Besides the fact that I mostly disagree with you on your first point (I'll let that slide as that's not the issue), I still have to say it doesn't look good graphically OR gameplay wise.
I expect more from a 1st party Nintendo game ESPECIALLY after Super Mario Galaxy. This barely looks as good as Double Dash if that.
More importantly though, the gameplay just looks kind of...dull. Granted, I've slowly gotten tired of MK after the 64 version but I still enjoyed DD. This just looks sort of boring for a MK game. Like their phoning it in.
Sorry if that touches a nerve.
It certainly has a faster feel than the others. That was the main problem with Mario Kart with me, it just felt like I was crawling along at 5mph, and there were shells.
It looks like a rehash to me. Colour me not impressed.
I need a Wii just for this and Brawl...If I can ever find the damn system in stores.
Well if some people are complaining that Super smash Brawl looks too much like meelee, well mario kart Wii isn't nothing new at all ! It looks like the same thing we've seen since Mario Kart 64, now there's bikes but what does it had ?
@Michael McWhertor: Cruel HD jokes aside (tee hee *pinky on lips*)... Even if these videos look like N64 graphics, if this games has decent classic control (no wheels) support, I can see playing this for months. I hope online isn't janked like in SSBB.
...
Thanks for the links :)
Notice how Wario was celebrating when he got 11th place! That guy is probably is so used to getting fucked over by virtually every character in the Mario universe that by this point he takes what he can get.
Yeah for some reason this video didn't excite me more for the game. Will I buy it? Yeah, but I hope they're showing us some older, boring, not as awesome footage.
