We know SFII HD was causing problems for the development team at Capcom. They've got all these lovely HD textures and sprites they want to use, you see, but Xbox Live Arcade's file-size limit means squeezing these into the 360 version has been a big hurdle to clear. Note I say big. Not insurmountable. Capcom's Seth Killian:
I can officially say that the filesize will not be an issue. With great help from the guys at Microsoft, we will be able to offer the same features on both platforms to the same quality as each other. To use the term I've been reading on the forums, neither console version will be "gimped" due to any kind of limitation.Breathe easy, 360 owners. Unless you've still got concerns over the 360 controller's suitability for this game, that is. In which case, continue breathing frantically.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix: State of the Union [Capcom]

now there's only the useless D-pad to worry about
How many hand drawn frames per secund there are on this HD version?
The last time I´ve seen the game preview video they were the exact same frames as their old lowres original counterpart.
True. 360 directional pad BLOWS. On the other hand, everything else is just gravy, even versus Dreamast controllers!
Just curious, I know there are devices to use 360 controllers on a PS3, but is there anything that lets you use a PS2 controller on the 360? I love using my PS2 SNK NEO-GEO replica pads and sticks for fighters.
This is all fine and dandy, just a release date would be phenomenal. I believe the last Quarterman rumors said the game is "trying" to make a summer release. Sigh......
360 it is, I was heading towards the ps3 side until this tidbit showed up, I thought they were going to have to use lower res polys like they did to bionic commando.
There is no problem with controls. Just buy yourself that nice Hori stick like I did. It is well worth the money if you enjoy fighting games. On a side note though, I am getting tired of hearing about these file size limits. It seems stupid to me.
Between this and SF4 I'm gonna have to buy an arcade stick for my PS3.
@thinkfreemind: yea you'd think MS would let it slide every now and then for a game that's clearly worth it
@thinkfreemind:
It is stupid I can't believe Microsoft caters to the idiots that bought the arcade/core bundle how could they not think they wouldn't need a hard drive.
Well can Microsoft also make sure that Bionic Comando Rearmed also gets taken care of the same way. I mean I don't want that to be gimped either.
@VanFinale: Indeed I will have to do the same thing for my PS3 and invest in an Arcade Stick, preferably a VF Pro Stick
Are there any wireless third party pads yet with a decent d-pad for the 360? I'll not bother buying this game until there is, SF2 Turbo was unplayable! Every time I wanted to do a Sonic Boom I ended up jumping forward into the opponent's fists! I don't really like arcade sticks so that's not an option for me sadly...
So they had to completely redo all the artwork huh? Guess that explains why there are barely any HD remix updates other than the character balancing ones whereas there are almost weekly SF4 updates.
@Wyld: Since the remixed mode will be arcade perfect they are just redrawing every frame from the original ST.
@everyone talking about the dpad. You could always get an arcade stick. HRAP3 for the PS3 (not sure about sticks for the 360) but you could get either a custom stick made or one for another console and use a controller adapter.
could this "quality reduction" on the sprites has something to do with the live restrictions, i mean just look at this screens. [blog.capcom.com]
now it doesn't look too HD for me.
@VanFinale:
Help cater to the lowest common denominator, AND help gimp your competitors version, win win for MSoft, makes things messy for Devs and consumers, Captain Obvious also told me the sky is blue just the other day.... again.
Thank god for this news.
And time to invest in an arcade stick too!
@photoboy: I thought a fighting pad came out when Virtua Fighter 5 came out on 360. I just checked Gamestops website, I cant find it. Maybe it wasnt released.
@IIGrayFoxII: I'd assume that you'll know about the release date a week before it comes out.
Time to get back to work soldering wires to my 360 controller's PCB and hooking it up to some HAPP competition push buttons and 8 way.
Xbox non responsive D pad might be a bigger issue then the hd textures...so ps3 version will be the one ill get
@photoboy: Sorry didn't see your message before posting. IMO the best dpad out there is the Dual Shock. Don't bother with PC pads, the ones I've tried are pretty bad. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any adapters out currently that can convert a Dual Shock 2 to 360 lagfree. I guess getting the game for PS3 is out of the question too?
@UmeShoryu: Oh hell no, best D pad = J Sega Saturn controller. ;D
@nolifedopestar (PSN: noliferuin): For a game that uses mostly half-circle motions, why the hell are you(or anyone) using the d-pad for moves instead of the analog stick like a mini-joystick? I kick ass with the analog stick on SFII, after I realized the d-pad was not an option. Now, if this were Tekken or MK(with moves like ->,->,punch), then I would understand the need for a d-pad. But SF has always been about the half-circle.
If you like beatemups and have a 360, I heartily recommend one of these: [xbox.about.com] (Hori EX2)
@AlKusanagi: Can you post a link or something to these 360>PS3 devices? I'm interested.
@kryo: If you search for "360 controller on PS3" there are a number of hacks to add drivers for the 360 controller to be played through the USB slots. Or if you're handy yourself, good ol' Benheck actually stuffed the guts of a PS3 controller into the body of a 360 controller. [benheck.com]
I'm just a bit lost, why does this still matter when there will be SFV very soon?
Are the Hori arcade sticks really that hard to find for the 360?
I was able to find a DoA4 one at a local Gamestop about a year and a half ago, and a VF Pro stick just a few months back.
ok so, when the fuck is this game coming? i think we all need o know that next :D
@Witzbold: I agree with Witzbold on this one. Also the D-Pad on the Neo Geo CD system was awesome as well.
Hey Luke I think that quote was not from Seth but from Rey Jimenez.
Hori sticks click. We need something that doesn't...
I envy PS3 owners, who have a High Grade Virtua Stick and Hori Arcade Pro to stab at wounds already delt...
I'm still gonna get the ps3 version, the dpad is better and I prefer the payment system on psn.
I've never liked using arcade sticks so thats not really an option and I've been pretty handy with a dpad ever since my old snes sf2 days.
@AkumaX: Oh yeah I remember that! Too bad the loading times on that thing made baby jesus cry. :x
I blame the juggling monkey for that one.
It's times like this that I'm glad I have both a PS3 and a 360, so I won't be forced to play this with the worst d-pad in history.
Now if only I had friends who had a PS3...
D-pads suck for fighting games, period. Who cares if one sucks a little more than another?
@Rectangle: It's a matter of personal preference. Personally, I only like using a stick when I'm actually standing at an arcade machine. I've never found a stick to be comfortable or better to use at home compared to a d-pad, and as such, I can use both with no issues. You may not like d-pads for fighting games, but that doesn't mean they suck.
@Witzbold: SNK puts out exact replicas of the NeoCD controller for the PS2. One came with KoF94 Re-Bout, and I think you can order them seperately. I love the feel of the d-pad on it. Smooth!
@Rectangle: Hmm because this is a CONSOLE game? and I also grew up with street fighter and kof on consoles so they don't necessarily suck
You know all this means is that MS bitched and whined about the bad press so they are just going to gimp the PSN version to match the Live version so no one looks gimped.
In the article, they show before/after shots of the changes they've made. Its insane... they've MOVED HIM FORWARD 3 INCHES!!! Amazing the technical advances they've accomplished!
(...yes, i know, they changed his look as well, i'm must being a jackass.)
Mmm... can't wait for this one.
Now they just need to mention a Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 port, and i'd have a constant rock-hard erection until its release.
@nolifedopestar (PSN: noliferuin): They did relax filesize limits for Castlevania.
The key phrase here is "with help from the MS guys" - the fix was simply better/more knowledgeable programmers, not larger file sizes. Considering how much people complain about bloatware (and bandwidth considerations too), surely it's better to have tough size limits to encourage efficient programming & clever compression than to allow lazy/rushed software and rampant *cough*MGS4* space wastage.
If it *really* needs to be big, MS have and will allow it, but the better solution for everyone is to just squeeze harder.
Sorry, I have yet to see an arcade stick that is better than the actual arcade hardware. I have one that I picked up for my original xbox, when I was running emulators on it. It's a multi-tap, so it works with GC/Wii, and PS2 as well, and was made with actual arcade hardware. Sometimes you are lucky and find one at GameStop still for about $6.
Had a heck of a time googling this - but is there an inexpensive, but yet good, converter for original to 360 controllers?
They probably just gimped them both so you couldn't look at one and say it was better.
@UmeShoryu: Yeah the PS3 is out because I don't have one... yet. Soon though, soon it will be mine! :)
Maybe I'll wait and get SFHD when I get a PS3. It's such a shame MS ballsed the 360's d-pad up, I'm sure the controller-S on Xbox 1 had a decent d-pad...
you dont have to take my word for this but logitech makes dpads that rival sega saturn controller. their cordless freedom for ps3 and other ps2 clones have the most amazing dpads i have personally used. better off using left stick on 360 controller instead of dpad. wooosh
@Witzbold: I loved the juggling monkey though.
@I_Hate_This_Place: controlling digital movements with an analogue stick is slower. with 2D fighters you need to have split second movement and an analogue stick just doesn't cut it for me.
@AlKusanagi: as far as i'm aware that can only be done in linux. post a link if i'm wrong, i'd be interested to try that.
@Bluvox: They are out there...you just never seen an arcade stick that uses actual arcade hardware then. lol I have some custom ones with arcade parts. Its the best way to go man.
@Karoshi:
I think the Hori sticks are available on Amazon, and definitely on ebay. My wife bought me one for Xmas off some weird site for 40 bucks. It's fantastic, and I recommend it to fighting game fans and for Pacman CE. I also use it for Alien Hominid.
o man, commando 3 looooook soooo sweet...
o the memories of the arcade game..
