Sony Computer Entertainment and Evolution Studios have made official what we've known for a few weeks now—MotorStorm 2 is coming, bringing monster trucks and four player split-screen action with it. The PlayStation 3 racer is indeed moving from arid Monument Valley to a lush Pacific island, an island apparently known for its remote location and 16 "diverse multi-route tracks."
Instead of mud, rocks, dust and the occasional cliff, MotorStorm 2 will feature natural hazards like "tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools." Sounds just fantastic. The official release on the matter talks up an Autumn release, arriving with a "host of game modes and rewards." Now about those vehicle loading times...

Lava + Monster trucks?
NOW I'm interested! Where do I sign up?
I sent a tip for the video. It looks nice. Ign has it posted up. here's the link
Motorstorm Tease
Where's the trailer?
OMG foliage!
Whats with so many f*king Next-gen games dropping splitscreen. Nice to see its making a resurgence. I mean evern Burnout Paradise lacked basic splitscreen. Unforgivable.
Awesome, this is what the first Motorstorm should of been. 4 Player split screen, in fact any split screen is a must for todays driving sims. Now for some in game screenies please Sony....
4 player split screen!!!
Damn, I was waiting for some 'FIRST!1111" posts to ridicule.
Awesome news. Monster trucks + LOST island = scrumptious.
looks good. would have rather seen in game footage. monster trucks are always good. as long as i can knock over a tree and have i land on someone behind me, i'll be happy.
and now, here comes the "CGI bait and swich" portion of PS3 related posts.......
I gotta say I wasn't crazy about the first Motorstorm, so I'm not all that jazzed about this one, but it looks very nice. I like the new setting much more than the last, so I'll give this a try. Though, this time it won't come free with the Playstation.
Sad.
God I loved this game so fun this is going to be better ............man so many games for PS3 this year I'ma have a decent colection.
Im so tired of these pre-rendered "This is what we're shooting for" trailers. With the power that current gen consoles have its bigger news if youre game doesnt look good. Give us actual gameplay or dont show anything.
Yea... not even going to bother thinking that is in game after the shit they pulled last time.
"" Now about those vehicle loading times..."
I thought the 2d selection screen took care of that nicely.
@Tyber_Zann: I'm going to have to say that I'm quite glad there was no "first!" post to ridicule. We live in a better world without them.
Ok this will sound stupid, but I trust they mean "Up to four player split screen" right? Nowhere do they mention 2player split screen and that is what I am interested in. They just keep on saying 4way split screen.
If the trailer on IGN is in any way representative of what the gameplay is like that is a whole lotta win.
like the idea of the destructable scenery blocking off your opponents routes. that split screen would hand mario kart its ass on a lush green platter.
Loved the first one so I can't see how they can screw this up....

Well, Pendulum better make a damn song if they expect to be the theme in the second game.
@GPman: oh yea check out [www.threespeech.com] the splitscreen IS up to 4 players.
yes...the first one had a lot of potential
From seeing how the first Motorstorm was, I wouldn't worry too much on how In-game is going to look. I just hope they fix some things up like exploding in a fireball just for hitting a pebble for example, and a few minor things too.
What a shock, a sequel to a first party game? Insanity.
I'm just hoping it lives up to the promises left behind from the first game. There were far too few tracks and online options. Great fun while it lasted though.
Is this May 2005 all over again?
@Violater: I havne't played Motorstorm in a while but what are you talking about? Did they change the car selection for the game via update or something
Ossum. Glad I didn't buy Motorstorm 1.
This just in!
It'll be just as crappy as MotorStorm 1!
@Modus_Operandi: If the game looks exactly like last year, just with 16 new tracks, Monster Trucks, destrutible environments and 4-player split-screed, it's already a gem.
@randomletters: Thanks! Glad to know it is up to 4. :)
Plus it's a TEASER. Of course it's not in-game. In fact Motorstorm is one of those rare games trying to look like a TEASER and almost touching it. But of course it should get shit for it, it's a PS3 title...
16 tracks is great news.
Hasn't it been under a year? *is confuzzled*
But good for fans I guess :)
While I generally had a blast with Motorstorm, I had two big problems with it:
1) the single environment;
2) the shitty adaptative AI.
CPU opponents would let you win a race if you performed like crap 3/4 of the way but made a splendid last quarter, and yet you'd lose when you botched the last turn of an otherwise impeccable, utterly perfect race.
Ah, the wonderful feeling of finishing last despite thrashing your previous, race-winning record...
Apparently, I don't need to worry about repetitive environments (unless dirt-dirt-dirt has been replaced by jungle-jungle-jungle). But unless they fix the AI, I'm out.
First game was good, I will get this.
@slomo788: so basically, motorstorm 2 could have been released as a 20 dollar expansion downloaded via psn but they chose not to?
@KYLE_ELYK: I say they can keep the exploding pebbles as a secret weapon if they include these guys as hidden playable characters.
@Unquiet Slumbers: I heard many people complain about a lot of things, but this? Yes, the AI gets very challenging, almost frustrating at one point (I'm actually stuck in a racing game, how shameful), but to call it shitty? First it just makes it more realistic that every car can crash in the game and second, I just can't see how being adaptive makes it bad. Also, would you call PGR repetitive because it's circuit-circuit-circuit or Midnight Club for the street race-street race- street race? The problem was the limited number of tracks, not the setting. The laps were fairly long and I don't see how a track full of mud (is it Mud Pool?)could be repetitive after playing in the sand (Dust Devil?). This one has 16 tracks, so there.
I was sold at "four-player split screen".
@ManjiKengo: Well if one could fit all that in a download I'm all for it.
Am I the only person who genuinely didn't have a single moment of fun with Motorstorm, no matter how hard I tried? I wanted to like it - it was the first game I bought for PS3 and so I was willing to be more forgiving than usual for the sake of getting some use out of the new console at the time. But... it's utterly horrible to play. Does anyone really like it, or do you just switch it on to show your mates what awesome graphics the PS3 has?
@ManjiKengo: But again, couldn't Brawl or even Gears 2 be expansion packs?
@kiigan:
Looks like it. I've got a good doctor who can help you with your allergy to fun. I've been seeing him a lot for that problem since SSBB came out.
@kiigan: Motorstorm is an off-track racing game. If you didn't like the genre before, you won't like it by playing it either. The fun in it is competing with extremely challenging AI, in beautiful environments, where you need to choose your path every time and be careful in the mud because its shape changes everytime. The game had a lot of short-comings because of its lack of offline mp, limited number of tracks and short (while somewhat great) list of songs. If you didn't like the first one, I wouldn't advise the second one either. Different strokes for different folks.
@slomo788: Like I said, I had a blast with the game, but it was far from perfect.
If you never heard anyone complain about the AI, we mustn't read the same boards/websites, because that is one complaint I've seen raised more times than I can remember. And I definitely remember reviews not too excited about the elastic AI.
If the AI is inconsistent, it is, in my book, deeply unsatisfying (but you're right, "shitty" was excessive - I typed that remembering the occasional near-controller-smashing levels of frustration ^_^').
The CPU's skills should ramp up with the difficulty of the class/race, not spike and plummet like it sometimes did.
Idk, I just felt the game wasn't quite as enjoyable as it could have been. When I beat the harder races, I didn't get the same "yes, I finally nailed it!" satisfaction that I get from, say, WipeOut.
(Oh, and I don't like PGR, Gotham Racing and the like, so I really couldn't comment on them... I'm not a big fan of racing games, Motorstorm being one of the few that I really enjoy - despite its flaws.)
@Unquiet Slumbers: I did read (and experienced) how the AI can sometimes make you wonder if you have a very large penis in your ass. Makes the lack of split-screen even more painful. And it can also be very dumb, so I guess the inconsistency can really be annoying when you can't even make fun of it. But I brought up other racing games because they tend to follow a theme and most of them tend to evolve around this theme. So I think that your rant about the track variety was unfair. If we're talking about the number of tracks itself, I'm the first in line to moan about it...
@1981suede: If any split screen will do, in that case Motorstorm 1 has 1 player split screen :).
They fixed those vehicle loading times for multiplayer you know.
Second the load times. First game was great but everytime I got amped up, load timed killed it. I just wanted to switch pain on my atv!!!
Motorstorm is still the closest thing to a next gen road rash... multiplayer cycle only races, hell yes please.
@thegreatseal: this just in.
trollers get banned with ease. go back into your hole... fanboy
wow , im glad i will be getting Mario Kart Wii to hold me off until then. the concept looks sick.
wow, didn't know about LAVA!
@slomo788: it'd be a good idea but i suppose not everyone has internets at home.
I'm not even a racing game fan , but some how this game was so good and beautiful I had to buy it.
Woot!
