A teenage boy kicked a nine-year-old English girl and then swiped her Playstation Portable in Great Hollands, Bracknell Monday.
The girl was walking with a friend when a man, aged 16 to 18, ran up and kicked her in the leg, before taking the portable. That's kinda crap.
Has the Playstation Portable become the candy of the 21st Century?

Only in Amer......oh wait.
"Having been thwarted in my earlier attempt at taking candy from a baby, I was now free to wallow in my own crapulance."
Oi what the fuck.
I hope they catch the bastard who did that.
Why would someone want to steal a PSP anyways? That would be the equivalent of stealing a dreamcast on release day. Full of potential but not a single great game.
"The man...was wearing a white Reebok hooded top with dark blue lining, dark blue Reebok jogging bottoms and white Reebok trainers."
Easy. Find the nearest Reebok outlet and go through the receipts. There's your culprit.
He was the eggman, he was the walrus.
That guy must have been very bored to resort to stealing a freaking PSP.
Heres a better question.
Why are so many Sony-followers mean spirited, unfriendly people? Ever since launch, people have been getting shot, robbed, beaten etc over psps and ps3s...
Then theres Microsoft, in second, with owners killing children over video games, kids beating each other with baseball bats for xboxes... and then theres xbox live.
I don't care what people say about Nintendo, or Nintendo fanboys. They've got a much more socially adjusted userbase than the other two. And with a larger userbase, there must be some sort of magic there. Theres been some stolen Nintendo products, but nothing where I've seen people getting hurt over it.
Maybe the fact that DS/Wii is so 'uncool' is damn fine thing.
@Neocorey: Back under your bridge, sir.
@Witzbold:
Nah, man I hope the Father catches whoever did it ;)
Ahh, those wacky soccer hooligans.
If they catch him she deserves a free crotch shot at him.
I bet he did it just because he can.
OMG WTF seriously it was a lil girl why the hell would you HAVE to kick her just to grab the psp. I hope they find him and kick him in the nuts just before they throw him in the slammer to be bubba's bitch.
Damn i mean i love Patapon too but that is just to much. LOL
I hope that fucking coward gets caught and they deal with him just like the middle-eastern people deal with others who steal in their country by cutting off their fingers.
Joke's on him when he tries to find more than 3 games worth playing on it.
Sorry, but I just had to go there.
@Komrade_Kayce:
People have gotten killed over the N64. This was family killing btw. Just as the rest of the world, there are bad seeds in everything.
I think this story sums up England in a nut shell. Particulary the attire that said mugger was wearing. Perfecto. We call them chavs here. Moronic, uneducated fools who would quite literally steal sweets from a baby.
I think a better question is (devil's advocate here) why did the parents give the girl a $200 toy and have her walk around with it without a parent or some way of protecting it? Think about when you were nine years old. Did you ever walk around with something that remotely expensive?
@Robotube: lol. I hope they catch the guy who did this. that was just sick and wrong on so many levels.
Part of the story no one knows is that the girl had a Nintendo DS in her back pocket, she'll be alright people.
I guess some one really wanted a PSP for Christmas. Really though why the need to kick the little girl? I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to just take it and run, if they catch this guy I hope they slap him twice in the knees with a 2x4. 1) for being a dick and 2) just because...
@Komrade_Kayce: That's a retarded thing to say. Criminals are criminals no matter what. Plenty of DSes and Wiis have been stolen too.
Crime is non-discriminatory.
@Komrade_Kayce: Now that set of statements is totally full of BS. I suppose people who own PCs are nothing but a bunch of scandalous NAMBLA child molesters stalking myspace and yahoo! chat groups.
Hey wait a minute... don't you own a PC?
GASP!
@kaitousai:
Oh, theres bad seeds everywhere.
But doesn't there seem to be predominantly *more* with the PS3/360?
(for everyone who thinks Im just rah rah nintendo, a quick scan of my past comments will reveal I havent played the wii much in the six months since getting my 360)
Small electronics are easy to pawn for drug money.
What a perfect world we live in. Not that I expect better from petty criminals but seriously a 9 year old girl?
@Moonchilde: @Spoony Bard:
I didnt say it was ALL of em, guys. Just the ratio. I'd put down 100 dollars on the fact that Kotaku has reported more PS3/360 related theft/harm (excluding flying wiimotes, harr) than Nintendo stuff.
I'll even do the readwork and go through all the old pages if you really want it.
@NitrousO: lol totally
He's probably going to sell it, Although God of war for psp is out now so theres one good game. I just hope the find the bastard.
@Komrade_Kayce:
Errr... Sony/Microsoft
It just means Sony needs to do a price cut. That's why you never hear a story about DS and Violence together unless it's people neglecting their Petz.
I lol'd. Sure, I'm going to hell, but I got a hilarious mental image.
Damn funny. Damn shame, but damn funny.
@Komrade_Kayce: Cause sony plays to the "gangsta" crowd. Someone needs to give that guy a beat down.
@Komrade_Kayce: So? What on earth would be your reaction about PC users in general if a news source posted up every single time a child molester used the internet to get molest a kid or get caught by an undercover detective posing as a 12 year old kid?
How can you really with yourself after this? You stole a PSP from a little girl. You're some kind of bad ass for sure.
Prick.
I feel bad for the little girl.
@Nissan288: Somebody had to say it, and it was you. When I hear that kids get PSPs or Ipods stolen from them, I don't think, that's a shame (it is), I think, why do children have such expensive electronic equipment. The world is not as sympathetic as you think.
@Neocorey: Are you not familiar with Soul Calibur?
What a wuss.. and yet you call that 18 yr old, a Man?
@Nissan288: Yes, it was called a GameBoy and while it was $90 that was almost 20 years ago when $90 was worth a lot more.
@Neocorey: That's no longer funny. With the new God of War game and the Crisis Core later this month, the system is getting full of good games. Not to mention games like the GTA, Lumines, Disgaea, Final Fantasy Tactics, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and other games that have been out for a while now.
Even if it didn't have these great games, homebrew enough is fun enough to want to own one.
@Moonchilde:
Even if you did the research and it does indeed show more media reports of crimes related to Sony product over Nintendo products, it still doesn't prove your hypothesis.
Correlation does not equal causation, your accusations of "Nintendo fanboys being more stable" is insulting because I doubt the people behind these crimes are typically Microsoft or Sony fanboys.
On the contrary it seems most of the time they are just regular people or perhaps even casual gamers who do these crimes. They'd steal an Ipod or nice television if they could.
So no, the Nintendo fanbase isn't any better then the Sony/Microsoft fanbase. Fans typically wait until they have the money to buy their systems.
@Komrade_Kayce: This is not:
Most Sony Fanboi's are violent jerks.
This is:
Some jerk saw a 9 year old walking around with a $200 toy and decided to steal it.
Would you have had the same reaction if the guy stole an iPod from the kid? People are mugged for their iPods all the time, but you don't hear folks talking about the violent Apple crowd.
Besides, all the Apple fanbois are busy hanging out in Starbucks. ;-)
That's horrible. That's just wrong.
@Korade_Kayce:
Here's my guess- Sony and MSoft products have a tendency to cost more. Even though the prices are rather close, people see Nintendo as the "cheap" consoles. Violent criminals are likely to risk less for that which they consider cheap.
You never hear about this sort of nonsense with the DS. Is it because of the lower price point, or because of the audience of each system?
@Komrade_Kayce: I think [xkcd.com] sums it up...
asshole :(.
Here guys. Now shut your damn faces saying I made a retarded comment.
Heres up to January of 07, reported from Kotaku, with the 'Crime' tag.
Sony:
(three thefts all with personal harm/death, two 'harm'-less thefts, one armed robbert)

As soon as I saw this story I knew it was from the UK. Kinda makes me sad that my country is full of dickless wonders like this guys. I read this just after I read this story aswell:
[news.bbc.co.uk]
We're all doomed.
@Ryadic: It may not be funny anymore, but I have yet find the need to own a PSP and none of the stuff you listed is changing my mind. Just saying.
Dude, get your own
"Why would someone want to steal a PSP anyways? "
Patapon just came out in the UK.
@Collapse The Control: Well your rabid fanboyism glasses really make things hard to see.
@Doomstalk: Who would bother mugging a girl over her DS, doesn't everyone have two by now? Besides it would probably be pink.
Guys... please stop this crappy "MS this, Sony that Nintendo hug" comments
I guess the thief sold the PSP and bought some drugs...
@Komrade_Kayce:
People umm criminals tend to steal the things that sell for more money!
I think that explains everything :/
@Nissan288: yes. it was called a Game Gear.
@Moonchilde:
My reaction would be PC's are not gaming consoles. They are PC's. They are tools primarily, toys second. Gaming consoles are the opposite. They are in different classes.
@Komrade_Kayce: The only magic there is watching your Wii mote go flying out of your hands and smashing into your brand new lcd display. And the magic of that experience carries over and implores you to visit Disney Land to encounter even more magic!
I realize that most Wii owners don't sling their peripherals but the fact that it has happened before is Intriguing nonetheless.
@Komrade_Kayce: Sigh...this is what we get pissed about with bad reporting and how they love to jump to an erroneous conclusion.
You're drawing a completely WRONG conclusion from the evidence at hand. It has nothing to do with the fact that it is a Sony product or Microsoft product.
Do a google search and you'll find PLENTY of cases of Nintendo products being stolen. You see it with Sonys & Xboxes more because they COST more, so they are WORTH more on the black market.
Really...it has NOTHING to do with the fact it's a PSP and not a DS, whether you can see that or not.
@Kyle81: I wear contacts now that some Sony fannyboy stole my glasses.
@Norellicus: Indeed.
@Moonchilde: PCs aren't game machines.@NateN: He didn't say most.
Somebody else here got some of it right. 2 previously mentioned issues:
1* Last generation, SONY built themselves an image to appeal to the 'gangsta' crowd.
2* XBOX/SONY are seen as more expensive so they are better targets for theft.
And finally - my own observation:
3* We are lying to ourselves if we don't admit that "hardcore" gamers are more prone to be socially m
