The still-yet-to-hit-newsstands issue of this week's Famitsu also unveils a new Soul Calibur IV female fighter named Scheherazade (bottom left). Plus! The SCIV version of nunchaku-swinging pirate Maxi is revealed as well. Couple these with the new Street Fighter IV fighter, and yes, this week's Famitsu is fighting game character all-you-can-announce smorgasbord! Or something.
Thanks, jayce!

For god's sake, Yoda?
Ok, wrong place. The new character looks kinda dull, but I'm glad to be able to see her face and not only her cleveage. It's a rare thing in fighters.
So... Her moves will consist of reading 30 minute stories to put her opponents to sleep?
I'd hit it.
*tries to hide his elf ear fetish*
*failure occurs*
*aesplodes*

Something about her just doesnt seem to "fit"? Still a new female character is always welcome! ;D
With the way the Soul Calibur series is going, we're going to see Sloth from Goonies as a fighter.
Which I have no complaints about.
Hmmm something tells me this could be a nice character. Might give her the first go
I'm still waiting for when they announce the Mech Warrior character.
DFC? Anyway, I'm just thankful that the new female character doesn't have her breasts spilling out of her battle costume.
She sounds like a sports energy drink...
Magic of Scheherazade = old NES game which featured action rpg elements.. pretty kewl
does anyone know if this is coming out for the Wii? soul cal legends sucked, and i'm a big fan of the SC series. oh and SE.
yay for putting an elf into a supposedly medevil world!
@targetpractice: Or perhaps just telling enough interesting stories to put off her pending deflowering and execution.
Either way, I'll be sticking with Nightmare.
Does anyone remember the Berserk anime? I think some of those characters would make good Soul Calibur fighters (Caska and Guts?)
@crapsh00t:
I think they are on to something here. They need to tap those arcane sources of characters that are "books" and "folklore".
Jason would make an awesome fighter. Every special move would involve an anime-styled Greek killing machine running out of nowhere and pummeling the target. You thought God of War was bloody? You ain't seen nothing yet.
There's a local jewelry store with that name, so I want be able to take that character seriouisly either.
She looks like she stepped out of the old G-Force cartoons.
Witzbold: "Something about her just doesnt seem to "fit"?"
Thats easy, her boobs arent big enough. =)
And did ash just say nunchuk wielding pirate?! You got chocolate in my peanut butter!!
@ everyone
I'm surprised nobody knows that Scheherazade is the name of a real life legendary character. The NES game was based on this:
[en.wikipedia.org]
... phillistines
Wow, she looks shit and nondescript. SC finally gets it's own Kunimitsu. She reminds me of those generic characters you had to deal with in SCIII's "confrontation interludes". Yawn.
@RPGr:
No, I got that, but IMO Richard Francis Burton would be a better character, this one looks like G-Force :)
@Thrillhaus: This could only mean one of two things:
a) She's a he, and we've been tricked yet again - Bridget, I'm looking at you!.
b) Her bio states that she's twelve years old or thereabouts.
@cheeses:
i loved stabbing the S#!T out of people with kunimitsu back in the day...
@Thrillhaus: The design kinda reminds me of Capcoms Star Gladiator more than Soul Calibur.
Her boobs are pretty big if she's only 12, though.
Wow, a new Soul Calibur character that doesn't have breasts large enough for their own zip codes. Brownie points, I guess.
@RPG
Fail.
@targetpractice:
LOL, perfect.
@-EDGE-
I completely agree with you. As soon as I saw the picture before reading the title of the post, I was like, "Gatchaman... in MY Kotaku?"
The entire suit, even the pose, seems to pay tribute to the series. C'mon, look at that.
Not sure how the design got past the Namco breast designer?
The new character looks like she's dressed up as a bird. Seriously, SC4 is looking horrible each time they announce a new character. Darth Vader, Yoda, Bird Woman from the 80's cartoon Silver Hawks.... I'm already looking forward to a "Star Wars" free SC5.
@targetpractice: oops, guessed I missed your referance. OK, everyone but targetpractice then
Actually she really looks like a .Hack charater. :x
Kratos for PS3!
If the gameplay on this game bombs, SC series is dead.
Namco's in a big hole after SC3, and they have to deliver big or epic fail. It really looks like they're on the line to do one or the other with this.
Actually technically the Katakana says "Sherazade" not Scheherazade. I remember playing the Tchaikovsky piece by the same name, it was nice.
As for her character it seems really...bland and generic for Anime terms. :/
I want Rumpelstiltskin, damnit!
It looks like they got the Yoda 3D model and modelled her on top of it just to have a new character before releasing the game! lol
Am I the only person that sees her name name is spelled She-ra-zaa-do?
Shayla Zard?
Sherazard?
I'm just glad it's not a bloody Star Wars character. %)*^ing Yoda!
Is she a darky? There needs to be a female darky in SC, dammit. I wanna cosplay as a Soul Calibur character...
T_T
Talim isn't quits dark enough for me...
My sister was like "Go as a female version of Zasalamel"
......
NO.
ANYWAYZ, I agree that she seems a lil' out-of-place.
But whatev', more chicks are welcome
@RPGr: What do you think I was talking about? Am I that detached from video games that I'm accidentally making a reference to a video game instead of the intentional one to the literary works of 1,001 Nights?
I get a Record of Lodoss War vibe myself. Despite the fact that that I am not really a fan of that, she looks awesome.
She reminds me of Sierra from the Suikoden series.
Well, I think she's cute. Her design isn't boring it's just that the other SC fighters' designs have become iconic to us over time, and each new design will take a game to imprint itself on us. I can't really say that Xianghua, for example, is a real bastion of iconic design, but she looks nice anyway. And hey, it seems like Xianghua and Talim will have another friend at the B-cup table. Ah, variety is truly the spice of life~
But for Scheherazade, I would've liked to see her pick up SC's classic trend of representing some world ethnic/regional fighting style. I mean, there's not even a weapon visible in that picture, so I have no clue. With the name, I think she could be a rad Persian fighter, though she's a bit light-skinned to be that. Actually, she kinda looks more like a Lineage II elf. I don't think those greaves will be protecting against any heavy hits. I'd be surprised if they even stood up to a stiff wind.
what?
no idolM@ster characters?
I was playing the original on the dreamcast the other day and it struck me just how much Soul Calibur has turned into DOA.
Wow, I like! Her costume doesn't make her look very Soul Calibur-y, but I'm not about to complain over -any- normal looking female after the absolute jokes the others have become.
Between her and Hilde, they're the only two I find attractive anymore.
umm i'm having a hard time trying to say her name well.
@crapsh00t: The guy 3 posts above yours did!
@Bluejuan85:
SHA-HAIR-RA-ZaaD
@Cola82: Fortunately DOA is my favorite fighting series, and I have really been getting more into fighting games in general lately.
Charizard?? No thanks, already have him in a fighting game at the moment...

Weapon = Rapier
Character design IS based on the main girl from Record of Lodoss War.
Originally she was gonna be an Futuristic Elf with designs and using the weapon based off of this anime:
+ Watch video
Then they realized a Futuristic Elf would not fit the story (WTF you got Star Wars!!). The article also said she was gonna use "蛇頭剣" from the above anime. I'm guessing it's what the robot was using... but that was Ivy's weapon to begin with!?!?! Anyway, she's a Rapier user now and not being able to copy the design from the main girl from Lodoss War due to copy right reasons, she's looking pretty ugly IMO.
@Revolutionary: Oh yeah. You have a point there. And funny you should mention that because her name sounds very similar to Sonya Shulen's floating fortress in Suikoden 1. If I had to guess, Shasarazade in Suikoden 1 was probably a typo/mistranslation.
@Yuki: DOA is also my favourite series. I simply find the controls approachable and the fighting itself immensely satisfying. I just feel that Soul Calibur lost sight of its strength, which was the fighting, and has since begun to focus more and more on the appearance of the women in the game. There are also more and more women, it seems, with every sequel, and they are obviously not there to draw women to the game. It's this proliferation of "eye-candy" and the inflation of the chests of the female characters in the game that disappoints me.
If it were enough to turn me off of fighting games, I probably wouldn't even notice or care. However, because I do play them, and because they do matter to me, I can't help but comment on them.
Soul Calibur is really just a fantasy version of earth anyways, so they can throw anything in that they wish to. I personally always wanted soul calibur to have more of a fantasy medieval bent.
Dammit! I was hoping it was Darth Maul. I think he would have been better as a playable charater than Vader, but since they did it to sell copies, Vader has a much larger iconic draw than Maul. Oh well... still buying it....
@Witzbold: Well, you aren't the only one.
First the wrestler from SFIV and now a new Soul Calibur character? There's something wrong here.
Does she have a move where you have a sub fight and the loser loses half their remaining health in the main fight?
Honestly, they introduce a character WITHOUT a massive rack and you complain the game's turning into DOA?
I will never understand you people.
THIS CHARACTER is very appealing to me cuz i've always complained that the SC character designs completely lack personality (except maybe Nightmare) Maybe that's why many are saying she doesn't fit in, cuz they actually put some work into the design!! the PS3 ver. wil be better cuz of vader. yoda is a dislexic chump.
@Witzbold: Mmm. She looks a lot like Atoli/Shino/Generic Harvest Cleric #6636.
CERVANTES OR BUST
She looks crap, just like that Hilde chick. I'm suprised Namco didn't give her some hefty titties. All of the other ladies got upgraded. I bet even Talim is workin' with giant sized grapefruits now.
Every time a new Soul Calibur (SoulCalibur?) is released, I'm puzzled by how Maxi is still alive. Didn't he die unnecessarily yet heartbreakingly at the end of his arcade mode in SC on the Dreamcast?
