Capcom (may) have, via leaked mag scans, had the wraps taken off Lost Planet Colonies, the successor to snowy bug-killing simulator Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. What's new? There's a new playable character (that girl in snow gear) and in online play you'll get the option of playing as the bugs against the humans. That online play will feature cross-platform play between PCs and 360s. There's more weapons and more monsters to fight (including their eggs), and it'll be out in Japan on May 29. Oh, and no word of a PS3 release as of yet. Bear in mind: all this info comes courtesy of a leaked magazine scan that's been...modified to include super-awesome Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui, so until we get some more concrete info, take it all with a grain of salt.

I have been hyperlinked to "love sticks" and sensual groin massage. j/k Thank you! :)
Is this Lost Planet 2? It's a little confusing when they order sequels by subtitles, but I like it.
Mr. Plunkett your placement of Mr. Sensui is just brilliant! (If that was you of who did the dirty deed.) :D
I enjoyed the first LP so will be looking foward to this one.
why is there an announcer riding an multi-tentacle raping biolisk? never mind I think I've been answered already.
@Witzbold:
Nah, that was some Japanese internet dude that did that!
@Witzbold: No, not me. I'd have included his Candy House.
@Brian Ashcraft: Yeah I just saw. D::: My heart is broken.
@Luke Plunkett: Now that would have been some good shit!
He did look ever so happy in that candy house eh?
Also would need to throw in the panda riding fellow for good measure.

I hope from that picture alone its giving way to the possibility that the game will have co-op since you can see the other colonists fighting the huge bug.
Lost Planet 2:Space Bug Riders
Well maybe now we can have mechs to pilot and bugs to ride. Technology vs. Biology.
But if they made Lost Planet 2 or colonies or whatever, i hope they gear more towards online and less single player because that single player was pretty...lame. That or Capcom should just hire a professional writer because im tired of shitty basic stories that start off cool but end up just being stupid.
@ArmyofJuan: I thought the SP was excellant and the MP was lacking in some areas.
Like weapon balance and little annoyances like not being able to shoot while being shot at, or being unable to kill someone once they hit the ground or roll.
Co-Op would be a nice change since me and some friends love playing LP but it was overshadowed by big name FPS's at the time. If the American release is in Fall/Winter like I assume, then it has to compete with Gears of War 2 and (hopefully) Battlefield Bad Company.
@ArmyofJuan: Resident Evil 4 had a pretty good story if you look past the part where a town of hay farmers, with a sea monster, and a cave troll could kidnap the daughter of the president of the United States.
@ArmyofJuan:
Well, it's not really Capcom's fault. It's a shooter. Shooters always have terrible stories, with the exception of Bioshock, really. I mean, did Crysis or Gears or Halo really break any boundaries in storytelling?
That being said, cool. I like Lost Planet. I only hope there's a PS3 version of this one though, so I don't have to buy anything for my 360 anymore. I just want a Dead Rising 2 at this point.
Whoohoo yeah baby!! this is good news ... although its still not clear if its a full game and extension or a game download.. still very good news !!
today i already was a happy man playing Brawl but this made me even happier!!
@Pornosaur: You forgot with a minature Napoleon that looked a bit like Ross Perot.
@ArmyofJuan: I personally thought SP was rather well done except for the LAST FUCKING BOSS FIGHT. Seriously that shit was so poorly planned out. :x
Asides from that I had found the experience overall to have been rather enjoyable.
Still dont see what all the unwarrented hate comes from whenever lost planet is mentioned. This isnt directed at you btw, just basically most comments when LP is mentioned. Im sure you know what I mean.
IMHO If I want a good story I would go and buy a book, like I already do. Games are for entertainment and anyone who wants deep philosophy or psychologic thrillers in a game is missing the point of it which is the gameplay...
@SolDieR: @Pornosaur: @Archaotic: @Witzbold:
well from what i remember i dont think there was a big explanation on the planet itself or where the bugs came from. There may have been, im having a hard time remembering right now. The only thing i can remember is that towards in the end it got fucking weird and then some grass grew...
But as far as Capcom/shooters go, atleast a lot of the shooters out there have engaging stories. i was going to cite Half-Life, but thats a rare breed of which i can think no other. But LP's story just felt like it could have used more mmph.
@ArmyofJuan:
The ending wheres the grass grows was kinda the overall goal of the game, and the bugs were always on that planet.
I'd like to know how their going with the story in this, since in the end of the first game everything was resolved.
Re-reading the article, Bugs vs Humans. Will it be people controlling bugs or AI bugs vs humans?
I hope its for PS3 as well I had for 360 and trade it for a PS3 version I perfer it on PS3 because more content but I perfer it on PS3 contorl don't know why I know its a shooter but I just do.
@Ryosukekun21:
whoah dude, remember to breathe between sentences :)
@Ryosukekun21: Uh.. right.
The article states PC/360.
@Ryosukekun21: No more redbull for you son.
Lost Planet was great. I was kind of hoping for a 2D Side-scrolling shoot em' up for DS. :(
@Ryosukekun21:
Have you compared the PS3 and 360 versions of the original game?????
That said, im looking foward to the title. The first is my favorite shooter to date on any console.(360 version)Hopefully loads more goodies for this one.
@ArmyofJuan: I liked the single player and barely touched the multiplayer. I just hope you get to use the fully upgraded mech more throughout the game rather than just at the end.
Am I the only one that thought of this when Isaw the above picture?
Lost Planet (space) + Monster Hunter = WIN!
Come on Capcom, Lost Planet 2 before Dead Rising 2? Such a move is without honor.
@Grommell: Well I think the problem is that capcom Japan isnt dealing with DR2 if the rumors of them whoring it out to a foreign studio is true. While LP still seems to be taken care of by the J studio.
Bwahahaha! Look at Sensui riding that Akrid! Hahahaha!!!!!! Fucking brilliant!
Co-op would be awesome to see, but I'm not expecting it. Is that a female lead I see?! I'm surprised that no one has said anything about that yet. Really skinny hip girl with boobs? Check. Also, looks like she's left handed and shooting from the right side of the screen. That's a change.
@Ryosukekun21:
I know what you mean because I like that contorl and having a PS3 but I like Xbox 360 too because I like that contorl and shooters but I don't know why because PS3 has a contorl and shooters but Xbox 360 has that contorl and shooters too because I don't know why
Hey, according to this thread over at NeoGaf ...
[www.neogaf.com]
... and this picture from Xbox 360 fanboy ...
[www.xbox360fanboy.com]
In the article it says:
New Multiplayer modes, including Humans VS Akrid
4 New maps, 2 of which are possibly a city and a desert
New Female Playable Character
Ten New weapons
New Monsters
Trial Battle and Score Attack modes for the campaign bosses
360/PC Cross-platform play
So it looks like LP: Colonies is going to be a remake of LP:EC, much like Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a remake of Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox.
Anybody care to do more digging? My Japanese is shit.
And if it is a remake, I don't know if I want to spend $60 on that. Then again, my copy of Lost Planet was won from a contest here at Kotaku.
@dead_red_eyes:
Lame.
Sorry, but I'm just in a bad mood today or something. News like this just irritated me.
Ashcraft or Crecente should dig into this more.
Sweet I loved the original, still haven't been able to beat it because my new graphics card burnt out though
