The NPD group have released the American PC sales charts for the week Feb 24 - March 1, which is awful nice of them, since weekly sales data for the US market is a rare and precious thing. The weekly frequency of these charts is about the only surprise you're going to get, however, as half the chart's taken up by Sims and World of Warcraft titles.
1) The Sims 2 FreeTime Expansion Pack
2) Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
3) Sins Of A Solar Empire
4) Frontlines: Fuel of War
5) World Of Warcraft
6) World Of Warcraft: Battle Chest
7) The Sims 2 Deluxe
8) World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack
9) Lost: Via Domus
10) Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate
While it's a shame to see a game as awful as Lost do so well, it's the anti-shame to see Sins of a Solar Empire do so well!

This isn't surprising. They don't track online sales.
Almost looks like a PAL region console list...heh.
The fact that Sins of a Solar Empire is that high up makes me quite happy. It's like consumers are finally being smart or something.
Until this starts to track digital sales, this list is worthless.
I just bought Sins of a Solar Empire yesterday. I am going to be playing this game for years. Not just because the game itself is awesome, but because I bet their will be some pretty awesome mods too.
Now back to playing.
I'm amazed that after three years WoW is still *that* well represented on the sales charts.
(which I mean in a good way ;)
@NessD12: You know, I have a feeling it probably wouldn't matter.
As much as hardcore gamers have a tendency to use Steam, the casual market is just that much bigger.
That, and if you track online sales, it would probably consist entirely of PoPCap Games, not Steam DLC.
4) Frontlines: Fuel of War
I feel bad for PC players who bought this buggy game.
Yay Sins of a Solar Empire. Just finished a multiplayer game with a buddy.
Just an fyi, the reason WoW is still up there is because of gold farmers. They buy hundreds of new US copies since you have to buy a US copy to play on the US servers.
This is good to see. It makes me happy... a respectful kind of happy. I forgot what podcast I heard this on but when the head of PopCap games was being interviewed, he bragged about how the number one game platform is not the Sony, not the Xbox, not the PC but Flash.. that made me happy too. Respectfully happy?... not so much.
any weekly US sales chart is as rare as a Worldwide release for a highly anticipated multi-platform game
the guys at www.bethblog.com was trying to promote Sins Of A Solar Empire saying it's awesome so i guess some people heard about the game at least.
having Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate instead of another Sim's game is shocking
id love to see the numbers on steam and direct 2 drive and all the other digital distrubition things.
Jesus, the PC charts are worst then the console ones.
It would be nice to see numbers (in addition to their ranking and price) associated with these titles as well.
Sad to see the Sims on top of CoD4. Silly casual gamers.
And I still haven't gotten around to picking up LOST: Via Domus yet. I don't care if it sucks; it's LOST, brother!
Nice to see COD4 fighting it's way up there. One of the best PC titles all around since Bioshock.
Just bought Sins of a Solar Empire yesterday. Can't wait till I get my hands on it, been hearing nothing but good things
People bought 'Sins of a Solar Empire' thinking they were buying 'Sims of a Solar Empire'. Tragic indeed.
@fruitsofherwomb: haha, cold comfort for us console gamers.
"hey, our lists are slightly less shitty, guys!"
I took me two weeks to finish a Sins multiplayer game...
Not shitting you.
I'm a bit confused... The Lost PC edition came out before the console edition.
And the game isn't absolutely terrible. It's fine as a casual game. My biggest gripe with it is that it plays alot like the Lost ARG Find815.com ... Which we got for free and not 60 dollars.
@Black-Dog-Howls:
1000 planets spanning a 50 or so stars? :)
So how is Sins of a Solar Empire for those of you who have bought it?
Is it similar to homeworld or more complex?
Also I wonder if my PC will be able to run it. D: Somehow I doubt it seeing how homeworld 2 gives me some problems at times. :x
Woo, Sins of a Solar Empire at no.3!
It's absolutely great to see Sins of a Solar Empire in the top 3. It's horrible to see a fucking Lost game on that list instead of Crysis.
im surprised sins is that far up, honestly i'd expect more people to simply pirate it. though i guess if people are more interested in the multiplayer aspect (which considering there is no real campaign only skirmishes, i could see that being the case).
God sins of a solar empire is the bomb. who CARES if it made me push my mid term back to the last minute... It's just so HUGE... gah... LAN party at my place.. Fo sure.
MoeB , Dont, cos we`re having a blast in both single player and multi too, all at half the price of your average console game.
I havent noticed any game breaking bugs yet, a few niggles yeah but nothing major at all for me and all the others i meet online.
It looks pretty nice too on the unreal engine 3.
Everyone seems to speak highly about Civ? Does it run well at min specs? Usually Stardock games do, but I'm weary about this one since SD is just the publisher. Can anyone fill me in?
It's sad that most of my PC game support is now just two publishers. (stardock and paradox)
For me , hackers are the sole reason for me not getting into pc online gaming. Hackers just ruin the experience.
@Tyber_Zann: LOL, brotha!
@Witzbold: The game does not need a really powerful system to run well. If you meet the mininmum requirements which are quite reasonable, you should have no problems playing it. I can run it on my laptop, and it has a shitty Intel integrated video card.
You guys are so noob. Sins of Solar Empire is enjoying the initial spur of purchase by the hardcore gamers having been released recently.
The dominant buyers of PC gamers are casual and average gamers, which is why the chart is usually dominated by games that have socially active player-base, while games that do not have them will rise and fall then disappear.
@Witzbold:
Very slow and complex, with a completely useless tutorial. Compared to Homeworld, I think it's much easier to control and has an infinitely better interface (once you figure it out). It also takes place on a 2d-plane of 3d space, so you don't have to worry about all the different 3rd-dimension movement that sometimes (in my opinion) made Homeworld a bit of a chore to control and follow.
Games, even on a small map, will take hours and hours. Games on a large map could go on for weeks at a time. Homeworld had a much better story (as in, it had a story).
Overall, while I liked Homeworld, I really, really like Sins. It's probably in my top 5 or so RTSs of all-time, along with Company of Heroes, Age of Empires II, Black & White 2, and Empire Earth 1.
Also, it begs comparison to Supreme Commander because of the scale and the icons that represent different things because of how far you zoom out. One thing that really, really pissed me off about SC was that it had these really cool graphics, but you only saw the icons and a flat map most of the time because you couldn't control shit when the camera was close. Sins remedies this partly through scale (large capital ships, tiny squadrons of fighters/bombers), partly through scenery (cool planet/space/nebulous backgrounds), partly through interface (icons on a sidebar for your ships/structures as well as enemy ships in the planet's gravity well), and partly through the cool effects in-battle.
@RockstarLlama:
You're right, it runs and scales very well. I don't get slowdown until I get close to ship max with hundreds of ships. (My favorite thing: Getting 150+ bomber squads. You attack a capital ship, and it gets housed in one pass. All the bombs homing in looks just ridiculous, there are thousands in space at a time. Hilarious.)
