With BioShock 2 in the hands of 2K Marin, and no longer at 2K Boston and 2K Australia, many of us were left wondering if designer and BioShock face Ken Levine would be working on the title. It would appear that he will be, in some capacity, at least, according to Take-Two CEO Ben Feder. He said today that Levine is "a terrific asset to the company and a brilliant game developer" and confirmed, in a roundabout way, that he'd be involved.
While most of the development duties sound like they'll be undertaken by the Marin studio, Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick echoed Feder's praise, saying that Levine is "critical to BioShock." 2K Boston is said to be working on a separate intellectual property for 2K Games, but hopefully Ken will be at the very least creatively consulting on BioShock 2.

He looks like what David Duchovny would look like if David Duchovny was handsome.
Does anyone else think Ken kinda looks like David Duchovny in this pic?
Oh wow, guess not.
I mean, guess so.
Awesome! I wonder who the new higher ups are for the new project however? I think the idea for a prequel was a really good idea (partly that Bioshock prequel art that was posted on Kotaku awhile ago got my blood pumping for a good prequel). :D Too bad it's not definite, but it would be nice to see the project heading in that direction.
That's actually really good to hear. That erases one of my major concerns about this game.
He looks like if David Duchovny and Steve Carell had a baby.
i don't care if that dude's the biggest ass on the planet if he keeps dropping things like Thief and the *shock series. In terms of bringing the medium forwards, he's among the upper elite
Yay
whats with the superhero pose
Ugh! I hate when a franchise switches studios. Hey you X number of people made a fantastic game. So good in fact we're making another. Isn't that great news? Yeah oh yeah you won't be working on it. Instead you'll be working on a brand new IP so it better do as well as Bio Shock, no pressure though....
Who cares about Levine being involved in Bioshock 2... I WANT TO KNOW IF HE'S INVOLVED IN BIOSHOCK CELLPHONE EDITION (or whatever that monster is called)
this means that theirishninja will also be involved, at least from a purchasing standpoint.
Hmmm, creative consultant = ignorable.
I guess that really was a rumor I posted on the annoucment.
Its good to hear Ken is still a part of it; but what about the others? I'd prefer my prequels/sequels to be handled by the same crew behind the original. I mean sure the last portion of BioShock was a bit of a disappointment but it is still by far one of the best games I've ever played.
Ken Levine looks like Steve Carell.
@JKilla77: A lot of people that worked on BioShock moved to California to form 2K Marin. So in a lot of ways, it still is the same team.
Oh thank you Kotaku, thank you. That picture is simply glorious.
Great!
I wonder which game he's going to re-skin and overhype this time.
@r1nce: Agree with you there, man. System Shock 2 it ain't.
@pylon_trooper: I didn't really see all that much hype for Bioshock (in comparison to truly hyped games) until people played the demo and realized how awesome the game really was.
And regardless, EA owns the System Shock franchise.... but we don't want them to buy up the company that employs the people behind the "great" System Shock games (quotes because I've never played them) because that would be simply evil of them.
Mr. Levine is in downtown Chicago, looks like.
Let's hope that the game isn't rushed out the door.
I hope they don't rush this game just for a quick buck, the fact that Ken is involved with the game gives me hope.
@pastepunkjames:
Could be Boston, although I don't recognize much.
Was there a doubt? HE IS BIOSHOCK.
@JKilla77: Agreed. I fear for Silent Hill 5.
@benjaminby:
I always thought he looked more like Charlie from "It's always sunny in Philadelphia"
[www.imdb.com]
I have a bad feeling that Bioshock 2 is going to suck. I hope I'm wrong.
@brianewing:
Yeah, glad you pointed that out, is that 2K Marin is effectively the people from 2K Boston that were a little tired of working on the East Coast and/or with Ken. So a lot of the people who made Bioshock will be making the sequel.
System Shock 2 was the game that really put Ken on the map (Levine didn't work on the first one, the first was Doug Church), so who knows, maybe Bioshock 2 will bring forth "the next Ken Levine" or something.
Again with the epic pictar.
Not really game-related, but Levine's head is shaped like an equilateral triangle.
@romBox: He's way too big to be Charlie Day. Although Dee does say Charlie is built like a small chunky person...
I really do not want them to make this sequel. It was perfect the way it was!
Here's hoping that Bioshock 2 doesn't end up a Deus Ex: Invisible War.
Man, this whole "2K Boston and Australia" thing is retarded. Why didn't Take Two just leave them Irrational Games?
If he wasnt involved with 2 I sure as hell would not be buying it, so this is very good news indeed!
No Levine, no buy.
Glad he's (sort of) on board.
@mind in rewind: Shhh dont say (sort of) or morale will drop faster than Governor Spizer`s pants infront of a hooker.

I do hope that this time they grant him more time to finish the project in a proper manner. Since I do recall him saying that he was a bit unhappy with the end part of Bioshock due to time constraingts.
With the advancements Epic has made with Unreal Engine 3 and water, Bioshock 2 should be stunning :)
Having Ken Levine involved in Bioshock 2 can only make it better and eases some of my fears that the sequel will be complete rubbish.
