While those who still haven't played Bioshock probably aren't F5ing Kotaku all day to find out where they can score the game on the cheap, know that Bioshock is now just $29.95 on Steam. That's a damn fine deal. I myself will be making time for a replay after attending 2K's presentation on the game's incredible audio design. You know, if I ever catch up with everything on my to-play list (which will absolutely never happen, unfortunately).

Sadly, the game was just too damn memorable to have any replay value. I tried it and it just didn't work. Using different plasmid combos etc doesn't really make the experience feel fresh at all.
Wow, that's a good deal. If my PC could've handled it ... I would've bought it on Steam. I ended up buy a used copy last Saturday at EB Games, $40.
I loved my first run the 360. I tried this once on my computer and it had graphical issues with giant lines in the background. Anyone know if that has been fixed with patches or new drivers?
Did they get rid of the limited installs, yet? I remember some company rep said they would get rid of it eventually.
I F5 Kotaku, and I don't have bioshock. I pressed F5 two times trying to type F5. Really.
I'll pick it up.
Amazing how fast games hit the b list.. 6-7 months?
Wow only $30? That's a shock...a Bioshock...
@ErskinPig: Too right. It's like its awesomeness actually got in the way of replayability. Nearly every significant bit of the game was so well crafted that the second time around actually became a bit bleargh.
F5ing...?
Oh, wow, the page refreshed! NeatO!
@BLiNk: It's almost like a shock... to the system...
cool now if only the 360 version was 30$ and if only i didn't have RROD
I still feel proud of myself for scoring Bioshock for $25 at Best Buy on Black Friday. Of course, given my backlog and other various time-crunches, I still haven't played it, but when I do, I'm sure my enjoyment will be at least moderately increased by knowing I saved money.
I'd like to start the game with the DLC pack that gives new plasmids and such, so I can play around with that stuff right from the beginning.
Nice. If I didn't already have it, I would get it definately now. :o
@ErskinPig & Fishballs:
on replay value; having a new TV DEFINITELY makes a difference. I recently got a widescreen HDTV and holy crap Rapture has never looked so good. I'm antsy to play through it again so I can actually SEE everything that's there.
and to "tenken" the DLC won't really change the experience any. The only main change is the ability to disable the revita chambers and get an achievement by beating it on difficult without dying, which I'm going to go for on a replay.
With it's current security bloat ware, thats still $30 to much IMHO.
<-Proudly plays his 360 copy.
@ExistentialEgg: Not if you're already playing it on a HDTV. Although I do agree that there is quite a difference in the graphics between SD and HDTVs.
Shame about the lack of replayability, but I doubt the initial experience would have been as intense if it weren't designed as it was.
Whats the mod scene for Bioshock on PC, if any? I haven't bought it yet and have been weighing pros and cons on whether to get it for 360 or PC when I finally do.
@BLiNk: @CyN1caL:
hey! i see what you did there...
I paid 30$ for Bioshock on Boxing Day. Damn validation key doesn't work.
I seriously "just" finished it this weekend because I had too many other games in the queue. Played it through twice for 1000 ap. And yeah...it is too memorable to play again.
Now if only I could get a decent graphics card for $30 to play it with.
Gamestop/EB is selling the boxed retail version for 29.99 as well
I couldn't get past the Medical Pavillion.
The damn thing is too scary.
I get these chills that are unsettling.
I know that's the point, but I don't like it.
Brilliant timing on my part ... I just bought it this weekend on Steam. Oh well.
i kinda wish i waited even longer than i did to play bioshock.. i'm not sure if it was worth the 60 dollars i payed, but for 30? you can't go wrong.
@Quilt:
This is what I have, and it plays it well. High detail at 1024 x 768. But it's $67 not $30.
[www.newegg.com]
@Quilt: A Geforce 8600GT is about 60 to 80 bucks on newegg after rebate. Close enough?
And another reason for me to never own an xbox 360 appears.
Now I just need a better video card. = \
@ExistentialEgg: I played it on PC on a high def projector. Do I win?
I may get this.
Its 20 bucks at your local FYE B&M for the xbox360 version.
I picked it up last week but havn't had the time to open the shrink wrap yet.
Pretty much my favorite game ever. I played it on the PC, but now I have an Xbox and want to play it again on my new HDTV. It's still $59 for the Xbox version, though. Aargh!
I haven't bought it yet knowing full well I won't play it on my current PC. So I'll save the money until I build a new one and it'll be cheaper too.
Have they removed the ridiculous DRM yet? I've been able to find nothing definitive stating whether or not the Steam version has the same DRM as the retail box version. If it does in fact still have any DRM other than Steam's own authentication, include me out.
@Fyren: Not to be a dick but did you mean FRY's? I used to work at F.Y.E., and they never sold PC games, especially at their physical retail locations.
@DaiMacculate: F.Y.E. Sells PC games in Orlando at Florida Mall. An odd assortment of them too. From Orange Box to Bible Black PC.
@Mezodon: Same here.
I'll be interested when my PC can play it at a frame rate somewhere above "migraine inducing".
Maybe I'll pick it up and OH WAIT I CAN'T. My computer's 18 months old, and I can't play anything made in the last half-year. FANTASTIC. I guess I'll pick it up in 2 years when I get a new computer.
Sorry about that ... I think it's great that it's that cheap, but I'm an old-school kind of guy that likes to have physical copies of things I own. I still have and play old computer games, published by companies long-since deceased.
no love in Norway, $55 USD.
maybe for the best, think the old video card is giving up the ghost.
@lostpuppies: Really? PC games weren't even in the system when I was there, and nearly all but the big mall anchor in Durham (I'm in NC) has dropped ALL gaming since GameStop just routinely kicks their ass on everything from pricing to selection.
Correction noted, my apologies for ignorant posting :)
**Wow and Bible Black PC? Is that just in the PC bin or under the adult/anime stuff somewhere? That is Hentai, right? I'm only passingly familiar with it from when I worked there.
Perfect timing! I have 2 week vacation coming up and Bioshock was one of the games I was planning on playing.
Lies! For Europe, it still appears as $54.95.
I Got my copy of Bioshock for the Xbox 360 for $27.NEW
