Smuggled off the set of the upcoming adaptation, and I must say, there's a pretty good likeness going on here! Not only is the movie's snow machine set to OVERKILL, but Mark Wahlberg's even sporting Max Payne's trademark "constipated" pinched face. Only niggle? I don't remember Max Payne's face being that...well, portly.
First Look At Mark Wahlberg As Max Payne [DarkZero, thanks Rav!]

And here we see Mark Wahlberg cosplaying as Mark Wahlberg
he looks like he's... doing... the car.
Cosplaying as Mark Wahlberg. Is it that time of the year already?
Looks more like Rain, buddy.
@mescalineeyes:
Lawl, it does look he was just caught in the act of having sex with the car!
Meh, looks like Mark Wahlberg getting into a car... with NY plates... in the rain.
doesn't look very Max-Paynish to me.
I just hope he's wearing a funky Aloha shirt under that leather jacket!
Doesn't matter. I'm more worried if the movie's gonna be good.
Needs more bullet-time.
Needs moar bullet-time.
Is it possible that this might be the first good movie based off a Videogame? Go Marky Marky Mark!
@splines: Dammit.
This movie would have seriously benefitted from a sin city-esque comic book overlay.
First game was great, never played the second. Hope this movie turns out good too. Maybe they'll leave out the creepy baby crying/blood all over the place parts too. M Wahlberg isn't a bad actor either.
I think he'll do well. Could be a good film and at least the love interest is looking up - Mila Kunis :)

Love this actor. Almost all his movies are good or not boring ones.
Also, in the interests of fairness his tag should be Marky Mark.
Does look a bit portly, but it seems like they are taking the movie seriously which is a good sign. Not sure how well the bullet time will be implemented.
Actually a game movie that could work!
Still think his brother, Donnie is a better actor.
Uh... so this is a photo from the Max Payne set, right? So who's the chubby guy?
@Adam: i agree
@chumpyman: Donnie is a better actor in some cases but I think that Mark has better range. Donnie is a great character actor but only within a few characters
This might sound odd, But I think if they are going for looks then Johnny knoxville would be perfect! then again people would take the movie serious
he doesn't look chubby to me, it just looks like its the angle they took this picture from
I dunno, but i'm sure glad Michael Bay isn't making the movie. Him and uwle bowel should get together.

he looks more confuse rather than Max Payne's trademarked "I seriously need to take a dump"-expression.
Massive fan of both the MP games. If they follow the plot of the original game they could really be onto a winner. I loved all the norse mythology references that underpinned the first game and if they are carried over well it could be well worth seeing.
I'm not quite gonna buy this until I confirm that Sammi "Sam Lake" Jarvi's credited with the storywriting.
Ahhh, the Winter Storm Warning Fiasco here in Toronto sets the perfect mood for Max Payne (too say the least they are shooting in Toronto), but here's the thing, why is it at day?? All Max Payne games happens at night!!!
Pretty spot on casting, for my money. Ol' Marky's done some good work... though it couldn't have hurt to work on the chisled look a little harder. Considering Max Payne was basically a movie anyway, this stands more chance than most ever will.
I don't see Mark Wahlberg as a witty, always angry, uncorruptible, police.
I wonder why they fattened him up like that.
That wasn't a snow machine. They're filming in Toronto and we just had a mammoth 36-hour snowstorm. I actually bumped into a crew filming the movie downtown at night last Wednesday. They were trying to keep it quiet, but the "Max Payne Lunch Tent" sign leading to a small corridor in a quiet mini-mall gave them away. I would have Kotaku Stalkued, but had no camera.
@Frank: Is this good enough for you?

Mark's films seem to turn out pretty well especially "The Departed". Seems like he has good connections in the industry. I'm looking forward to this one and I'm even not a fan of the game.
i'll watch anything with marky mark in it!
he's perfect as max. good casting? in a game based movie?
what the fuck
I wonder if this means a Max Payne 3 is planned.
Actually looking forward to this one. For a video game movie it actually has potential to be good.
@kingme: It's often easier to shoot day for night and apply filters in post.
@Agies: Really? Can you give me an example? Which movie?
Max Payne was an awesome game. They really set up the absolute feeling of desolation the snow can bring about. Just thinking about it is making me cold. The only game since to make me feel that way was Indigo Prophecy.
Leather jacket? Check.
Inclement weather? Check.
Mile Kunis as Mona Sax? Sounds good.
Hopefully this will be a pretty good film.
Marky Mark as Max Panye? This is either gonna be a great movie or it's going to flop terribly.
@Snappywave: [en.wikipedia.org] Apparently it's not as popular as it once was, but it was done for Jaws and I personally saw it being done for Wonder Boys. Keep in mind that this could still be being shot as dusk with filters on the camera. The picture we have is just a quick snapshot and not a production still.
@HamThePharoah: They'll probably make a "Max Payne: The Movie" game instead.
@tei: Then I guess you didn't see "The Departed."
They should have used that guy from the first RE movie, the dude who was looking for his sister or whatever. Since he looked more like max payne than MW does.
@peAr_nectAr: The Departed was such a bad ass movie, one of the few were decrapio actually didnt look like a wuss.
@peAr_nectAr: I was just about to say that. MW's best performance ever. Nuff said.
They were filming this the other day at Bay subway station in Toronto, i saw the crew when i was going to work
@Witzbold: Meh Witzy Wahlberg's a pretty good actor though... I'd rather have a guy who can really sell the role than some guy who just happens to look like the video game character did.
@Acunia: You won't find anyone who looks more like Max Payne than Wahlberg. Observe:

@peAr_nectAr:
Mark's work in The Departed actually gives this some hope.
But really, it depends a lot not just on the actors, but the script and director.
