You're all so quick to tell us which games you'd love to see made, but how about unmade? Huh? Yeeeaa-aaahhh. Not so easy. If you had the chance to go back in time and unmake one game, which would it be? Warhammer Online dev Paul Barnett's asking the question over on his blog, and boy, it's a doozey. Do you pick one for the shitty genre it spawned? For spoiling a franchise you once held dear? For plain old major suckage? Me, I'm going for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (Shenmue, you came second by *this* much, with Wing Commander Arena coming in third).
What game would you unmake? [Paul's blog, via MMOG Nation]

How man games are on the Ps3 now?
Lost Planet. I was hyped about that game, but when it came out? Absoloute shit. I wish they had never made it :(
Hey You Pikachu!
more like shut up!
Rainbow Six: Lockdown. That game was nothing short of pure shit. It's mere existence has already thrown this world asunder.
Suikoden IV. Way to be a giant nasty blemish on an otherwise gorgeous series.
Does this only apply to released games? If not, my vote is for Duke Nukem Forever.
Breath of Fire; V Dragon Quarter.
What the fuck were you doing Capcom?
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
What a piece of shit.
Deathtrap Dungeon. Ugh.
...
Why, the fuck...did I ever buy Deathtrap damn Dungeon!? Whenever I look at it I fail hard in the inside...
all movie based games, and fable.fable pushed me over the edge to buy an xbox 180(get it?!?) then it was delayed a year then i beat it in 12hrs....oh and it was missing a ton of what was promised it was such a huge personal letdown.like the day you find out theres no easter bunny or santa.
/cry
Gears of War and hear me out, please! Maybe the next Red Faction is ruining my sight, but I see a ridiculous spawn of crappy run and cover third-person shooters coming from the success of that game. Also, I don't want anymore FPS franchises to be changed.
Brain Age also comes close and I'm tempted to say Madden just because I'm curious to see what sports gaming would be like without it.
Mario Party. Actually, i'd unmake the franchise that is Mario Party. Ugh.
how about 50 Cent Bulletproof....not taht i played it, I just wish it never fell in the hands of over a million people.
@Magic Emperor Anima: Haha, I actually enjoyed that game for an hour or so. It was absolutely ridiculous, but the concept kept me entertained for a little while. Granted, I bought it used for about $3, so I don't have much to complain about.
final fantasy tactics advance. gag me with a fucking spoon, man.
Ultima 8 and 9. Follow up some of the greatest games of all time with absolute garbage.
FFVII. I don't like the direction games have largely taken since that game changed almost everything.
Although I'd also gladly undo Halo for similar yet more specific reasons.
Hey You Pikachu
ET for the Atari
Halo for the Ds... nvm
@bangbangblah: You're against progression of shooter gameplay?
I'd unmake World of Warcraft. Without it, I believe there'd be more, or faster, evolution in the MMO genre. Then again maybe I'd unmake Starcraft. Same thing.
err....i take that back. brute force for xbox. worst thing i ever spent 50 bucks on.
Superman 64. So much potential.
First level with the rings needs to self destruct.
And the multiplayer...ughhh *shudders*
That's hard... Really hard.
As fun as it was, I would have to say FF7. While we had silly FMV games in the Sega CD era take up multiple discs, this was really the first high-profile game to do so, and in doing so set the entire Japanese gaming industry into a grotesque orgy of irresponsible use of FMV. There are way too many games that don't last any longer than a good western game, but are on multiple discs for no other reason than the irrational need to fill the game with silly FMV when real-time graphics would have done just as well (I'm looking at you, Lost Odyssey.)
Superman for the N64.
I mean WTF...
Batman: Dark Tomorrow....nuff said
Halo , i was expecting it like the next best thing...and all i had was a average fps...
PS2's Castlevanias...especially the second one, luckily i got the portable games ( GBA,DS and PSP )
Devil May Cry 2 , even if the design for dante was amazing in that game...
Sonic 3 , man....that game was the most boring and easy game i ever played
playing wise would have to be Kane and Lynch. I didn't se the problem everyone has with the game until about halfway, when u have to save ur daugther...and the craptacular ending.
Xenosaga Episode II Jenseits von Gut und Bose
God i hate it, I want to finish it so i can go ahead and play episode 3 but damn Episode 2 sucks so hard!
Batman: Dark Tomorrow
@Garro: Not really. I think third-person games are great. My favorite series of all time is MGS, but it's more the success of Gears that I'm talking about, because I envision a lot of successful FPS franchises trying to make a third-person game like Gears and absolutely failing. Reminds me of when the next Bond game after Goldeneye was Tomorrow Never Dies. I know it's different, but still.
Friday the 13th NES
@Nobuyuki: I almost went with that one, too. But if I had one choice it'd be World of Warcraft. Not because it's bad per say, but because it's ate up so much of my life. Heck, I'm flying from Stormwind to Stranglethorn as I type this.
I am gonna say halo but yu-gi-oh is also on my list of games that need to be undone.
@bangbangblah: Ah. Except for the gameplay itself and multiplayer, Gears was aaaall Cliffy B running his mouth. I see what you mean.
Kingdom Hearts, no other game even comes close.
I'm going to go a little bit further and unmake Dungeons & Dragons, or whatever was the the first Role-Playing_game...
Not that I hate all RPGs, but D&D launched the horrible "turn based battle system" ... The SAME sort of system that JRPGs use to this day... I do hate turn-based battles...
I would unmake the last five to seven Sonic games on conseles he can not be played well in any type of 3d game ever.
Kingdom Hearts 2.
Unmake Shenmue? How dare you! Far from a bad game, just ahead of its time.
Either that God-awful excuse of a Deus Ex sequel, because it pretty much screwed over Deus Ex fans. And Halo, because it's made it so many people say "Freedom Fighters?", "Stalkers?", "and "Orange Box?" Just think of all the good games that didn't get a chance thanks to that crap just steamrollering its way over them.
Or maybe Final Fantasy: It's almost like people ignore good rpgs like Oblivion because of it.
Mega Man X6, Mega Man Battle Network and Mario Superstar Tennis.
Also, don't flame me, but I thought Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door had absolutely zero redeeming qualities to it. I might as well throw that on my list also.
@Crash McCloud: Great comment! Glad you got first.
Nintendogs, Ephimeral Phantasia, Halo 2, TabulaRasa
Shadowrun (the fps) !!! That piece of garbage destroyed all hopes of getting a proper cyberpunk rpg. When it was first leaked that FASA was working on a Shadowrun game I had no clue they were about to butcher the IP.
@bangbangblah: I paid full price. I was young, dumb, and an asshole for buying that damn game. No questions asked.
@Jim Reilly: Hmm, I liked Dragon Quarter. Yes, it was the oddball of the series, but that's why it has it's own following. We just need a new one to get back on track.
halo 2
@Blind_Evil: @Furious_Liver: Really?? I mean, I'd hate to have to waste this basket of perfectly good-to-throw rotten vegetables..
That makes me want to cry a little..
@ph15h: ET? Aw man, that'd be rewriting history as we know it. For all the damage it caused the industry at the time it really allowed other developers (specifically Nintendo) to breathe new life into the hobby. Heck, if not for ET we may have been waiting this weekend for Super Atari Brothers Brawl.
Any 3D platformer (including Mario). Sorry I just don't like the genre. Imo it should have never taken the jump to 3D.
Superman 64, is there even any competition for this spot?
CounterStrike.
I hate just about everything that game has influenced/caused/destroyed.
@bangbangblah: Then instead of wishing Gears was never made, how about using that wish on the shitty clones? That's like wishing Super Mario 64 was unmade so that we wouldn't get games like Bubsy 3D.
@Jmontilla2786:
The part where you're in the ditch and you have to shoot at the bulldozer?
The best I can think of is Star Wars Galaxies. I want a Star Wars MMO, dammit, but I'm not going to get one as long as that pile of ass is still standing.
@Crash McCloud:
Ooooh, burn...
Just looked over the posts and am surprised nobody said the game that begins with d and the rest is never said due to the shame it brings by saying it.
I agree with the WoW vote. I think its success has completely overshadowed and overwhelmed the competition, making a the genre more stagnant than it should have been. Hopefully, though, things will be changing soon...
I feel a bit awkward since I love many of the games being hated here... (Even Brute Force, actually especially Brute Force).
I'd say Two Worlds which was the most disappointing game for me. Anyone who's played it would probably know why.
E.T. no question. Why? Just to see how differently things would play out.
I'd unmake the abacus.
I would unmake:
House of the Dead
Alone in the Dark
Bloodrayne
See where I'm going with this?
Postal and
FarCry.
Perhaps then, nobody would know the name Uwe Boll.
Turning Point... Such a great idea only to be done like crap. This game could have been amazing but no... horrible aiming system only followed up by AI that is no smarter then Mike Tyson after a Bong hit. It could have been so good.
Team Buddies.
See, you all want to unmake a game because it was shitty or it spawned a horrible genre/game mechanic.
But I, I chose Team Buddies because of the endless hours I spent with that game. The endless hours I could of been doing something more productive. Team Buddies absolutely blew my mind when I first played it. It was a fabulous sleeper hit that didn't get the praise it deserved.
Ok, I was 8 at the time and there may of not have been something more productive, get off my back.
Brute Force
Superman 64...actually any Superman game period
Drake of the 99 Dragons
Manhunt 2
@kojirodensetsu:
And the video gaming industry would never recover from 1985, I give platforming games some respect, but that's jsut me.
Anyways, I say DMC 2 and BoF V. Capcom really dropped the bomb on those 2
Everything Sonic after they went third party
Actually I'm gonna go ahead and say Bioshock and wait to be verbally murdered.
I got it!
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
when you can find used copies the day a game comes out, it means we have a problem on our hands.
