One week ago today, a gamer named Nathaniel told the internet his story of an Xbox 360 repair gone awry. After sending in his console that was adorned with artwork and autographs for repair, it came back from Microsoft scrubbed clean. But Bungie heard the cries of a downed Halo fanboy and offered to make things right. Here's the big gift they sent Nathaniel's way—a Legendary Edition helmet signed by the Bungie staff.

I commend Bungie, but they were never the problem. They're just a damn fine studio. MS customer service is the issue and at this time nothing has changed.
Devotion can bring rewards. That's all I can say.

I want the marty o'donnell signed soundtrack, a visit to his studio, an interview, and hands on work with the man who created some amazing sounds with Halo.

Way to go Bungie! It's nice to see companies treating the fans well. That goodwill (and caring about their audience) will serve them a lot more in the long run than just the cost of the stuff they sent out.

But does Bungie giving someone free stuff really make up for the douche-baggery of Microsoft in this case? Think about it - this wasn't a simple error - someone working under Microsoft (either an MS employee or someone working for a company hired by MS to do repairs) had to work really hard to scrub the signatures off this guy's 360. This guy needs to be held accountable... another company sending free stuff (no matter how cool that stuff is) comes no where near to making up for what this guy did.
If it were an accident, that'd be one thing - but I don't see any situation where this could have been done without malicious intent.

Think this story's bad? It's nothing! I was given a signed xbox 360 as a present from my parents - I open the box and there was nothing but t-shirts in there!
