Getting a gamer to sit down and play Halo 3 is easy. Getting them to throw in $10 for a tournament may, under any other circumstances, be slightly more difficult. But when it's for a good call, like raising money to help a fellow gamer afford a much-needed kidney transplant, I'm sure many of us wouldn't give it a second thought.
On March 22, the Femme Fatales will be holding a tournament to help their fellow clan member, Beenie (aka RagingJellyBean), raise money for a much-needed kidney transplant. For $10, you can enter in either a 4x4 or Free For All Tournament, and compete for a cause. Or, those not wishing to play can make a donation directly to the RJB Charity Paypal account.
According to a friend of Beenie's, there are two things you should know about her:
1) She is not sick. She has some medical issues, but she'll never let you call her sick.
2) She is a hard core Halo player.

Oh and who's selling her a kidney?
@nxp3: Figured we would hunt down the first poster on the topic, and have him make a "donation."
Umm...i'm hosting this tourney...it's going to cost you $20 to enter..all the money is uh, going to....the, uh, Make Sure I Can Get MGS4+PS3 Fund.
What?
I don't doubt somebody trying to defraud this process someday.
Doctor: This is going to knock you out while we work on you, okay?
RagingJellyBean: Wake me... when you need me.
Good luck to you.
As long as the hospital owners and the doctors make millions, i'll keep funding these transplants.
If Bungie thinks they can get good publicity from signing a MasterChief helmet and sending it off to a (seemingly rather daft) Xbox player, then surely they'd get a lot more by ponying up some cash to chip in on this kidney transplant bill.
@Erwin: In this scenario, the doctor is tiny and purple.
maybe they should have tourney where the losing team has to give up their kidney!!
4 times more fun....4 times more risks!!!
@Erwin: I see what you did there!
@panfriedcharlie: I understand where you're coming from, but it's not Bungie's job to pay the bills. The swag was a good-faith replacement for Microsoft's blunder.
In this case, Halo is simply the tool. If Bungie shelled out the big bucks every time a hardcore Halo fan needed a new body part, they would be out of business.
@Machete_Bear: Right and if Bungie shelled out the big bucks every time a gamer got screwed over, they would be... oh, nevermind.
Additionally, I think this post should have had the tag; High Charity
@Machete_Bear: Indeed! I seem to notice a lot of Halo fans seem to be in need of a brain transplant. :D
@Machete_Bear: How many Halo fans really need this kind of treatment? I mean, the elderly, despite the Wii's inroads, still don't teabag. Unless it's in real life, and they're sagging.
The uncomfortable thing about these situations is always the question of what happens to the people who can't afford it, who don't have the friends to set up the tournament, and so on and so forth.
Bungie *could* put together a halo related fundraiser where they promise to match up to a certain amoutn or something, and create a charity to help fund organ transplants. Or stemcell research so that we can just grow the things and not worry about having to find it off someone else.
Plus, frankly, it's a little grim to associate something fun with unvarnished reality. There was a moderator presence in the donate-games-to-the-troops post, because the idea was 'hey, life sucks, but lets forget that right now', whereas this is the opposite. I don't have an opinion, necessarily, on whether that's ok or not, but it's a gear change.
@Guizzy: That is evident everytime I play on XBL and forget to mute my headset.
Wow, 2 halo stories today that were positive and didn't bring out the snarling halo haters. I'm amazed.
@deathbunny: would that fundraiser be annual and what limit would they raise to ??? i'm sure they'd have decent funds to be able to do it, but charity in any case is still a good thing
I think that it is a million times more meaningful that Bungie is NOT the one footing the bill. This is about the gaming community coming together to help one of their own. It is not about corporate sponsorship and Bungie saying "Look at us we are saving lives". I for one, am all for it the way it is and I am looking forward to signing up for the tourney. (even tho I haven't played H3 since the map pack dropped) I got some practice time to put in....
@InEffectMode: How would I know? I'm just responding to the other guy acting like they'd go bankrupt. They don't necessarily have to break the bank to set up a recurring charity for more than just this one girl.
I think that even a brain wouldn't stop most halo players from playing.
nice move
see JT? gamers arent just killing machines, they are a strong bonded comunity...
damn,forgot about halo 3 voice chat...ignore the above
Best of wishes!. I sincerely hope that a Kidney transplant will be in order soon. Frag away my friend!!.
I hope this has a good outcome.
@Gray665: *snarls*
She needs a new kidney but she's not sick?
Jesus, if you go to her myspace page I think sick doesn't even begin to cover it. That's a harsh life.
@ deathbunny: i know, just adding more to the thought is all
@meandering_drivel:
you LOLed my face!
I signed up.
Anyone else?
Beanie prefers to NOT be told she is sick or to ACT like it. That is what that statement means. If you would like to know more about her check the forum at gaming4others.org
Im one of the directors of Gaming4Others where this tourney is being organized. Donations and prizes are coming in and many have signed up to play. It's going to be great! And yes, Bungie is aware of it. =]
Everyone sign up
Gamer chick needs a kidney
Please help her respawn
<pedantic>
I know it's their clan and they could use any name they want, but the plural of "femme fatale" is "femmes fatales." There is some contention that "fatale" does not gain an "s," but in both cases, "femme" does gain an "s."

Why am I not donating $10 yet?!
@kftgr: Wow...THAT'S what you have to say about this article? BANHAMMER, please rain your particular brand of violence down on this creepazoid.
@marissa_melee: Agree. Can we get multiple crushing blows of banhammer fury on this dolt?
