If you want to play God of War: Chains of Olympus, you're going to have to do it on a PSP, because a PlayStation 2 port ain't happenin'. That's what Ready At Dawn says, smashing rumors that it would follow the PSP-to-PS2 precedent set by games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Silent Hill Origins. Seriously, get a PSP already!
The RAD team also says that after a short, post game launching break, they'll be working on new projects that aren't for the PSP, with Chains of Olympus being their "last PSP game." What's next? "Other projects and other ideas on other consoles" is all they'll say. Who wants to make some guesses?

"Extra Twisted Edition".
Nice one. :)
Extra twisted edition made me lol.
They are probably just saying that so people buy the psp game. Then about 3 months later say Oh we were just joking about that.
Heh. I'll have to pick this up soon. Not yet though...
Damn it. I was looking forward to playing it on my new HDTV and not looking like crap.
:(
Best of luck on whatever they decide to do... they are a top notch developer.
@JustJake: Doubt it. Daxter been out for a while and hasn't been ported, and they just said they like them as PSP Exclusives. So yeah...enjoy it on the platform it was made for!
I just beat it 8 minutes ago, it is just as epic as its older brother counter parts.
Well, clearly Wii is in the cards, what with them being behind the Okami port, although it remains to be seen if they'll stick with the Wii after that.
As long as it's not on PSP and it's a good game I'll probably play it. I lost my PSP Charger many moons ago and haven't yet had the urge to find it or buy a new one.
More Wii, some PS3, no 360. That's the way I see these guys going.
Just b/c RAD isn't porting it, doesn't mean it isn't being ported. I'm sure the cost for Sony to get one of their studios to do this is far less than what they could make off the game going to PS2.
I'm guessing they'll try something on Wii.
With so many consoles out there, it'd be a no brainer for a company whose produced a bunch of stellar titles so far. Their games are sure to stand out from the rest of the shovel-ware on that platform.
As for the PSP? I snatched up a slim with 2 games and 2 memory cards for AU$240 off ebay yesterday. Should have it in time for GoW to be released here. GoW and Patapon put me across the line.
its only a matter of time.. it'll come to the PS2
I'm a 360 fanboy, but my bets on Wii. But I have a Wii, so I'll be happpy. Ready at Dawn are good devs, whatever they do they'll pump out the good stuff.
Innuendo not intended.
So is that company not owned by Sony?
The devs are saying specifically "there will NOT be a PS2 port" and you guys are saying "yes there will be." Some real funny people around here... ;)
Something original finally? Now that they've established themselves as top-notch developers and have a little cash in tow, they can finally create something new - probably on the Wii because of low dev costs.
they own themselves. sony was just their publisher.
It's nice to see so much quality in such a new developer. Just started God of War but damn impressive so far. I missed Okami the first time around, but for sure will be getting the wii version.
Hopefully they'll make a new IP instead of taking other poeples properties
"Other projects and other ideas on other consoles"
Clearly, I am not the only person excited about the development of a new Gizmondo.
Some of you seem to have short memories. Or maybe I'm just on here too much?
They said this before awhile back and the headline read "RAD sick of the PSP". No one knows what the're doing at this point. They might be making something for the Wii,PSN, PS3, 360, XBL, and there's really no evidence to suggest anything specific at this point.
so they will be making a ps3 game then
Good news, RAD is a great developer, excited to see what they'll do next
@ArmyofJuan: I hope that's the case.
@bellini: Is it up to them or SCEA? That's the real question.
Wii please!
They must hate money. I'd do the nickel and dime port to the console with a 130 million or some odd users in a heart beat.
They're right. God of War 2 used the PS2's entire potential. It'd take a MASSIVE overhaul to get Chains of Olympus to look the same, no matter how good it looks on a PSP. And they can't just release a gimped game.
So, wait, RAD isn't the original developer of GoD? I know that Jaffe was involved in the first one. But which dev team is behind the real franchise that should be in the works for the PS3 now?
And this is an entirely different team, yes? Then, my money's on....the Wii. I said it.
@bellini: I only read the Kotaku article, not the original.
they already said its coming.
@Candlejack: That would be Sony's Santa Monica studio.
@Aflack: Likes slushies: Ah, I thought it was internal. Cheers :)
Damn, my dumbass passed up COO for $35 thinking it would be out on PS2. Gonna have to get it on PSP now.
They're just saying this to get people to buy PSPs. When that doesn't work, expect it to be on the PS2, at some point.
@Communist_Gamer: oops. too late... innuendo realized. it is a mcwhertor post after all.
on topic: my psp will miss RAD but promises to make sweet, sweet love to it's final progeny.
I hope they make God of Wii, but I'll settle for God of War 3.
@pronounconnoun: The raw power of Kratos baddassedness would melt the Wii into a puddle of goo. (yes even the PSP version would do that)
@pronounconnoun: Hey dumb-ass, God of War is a SONY Computer Entertainment property. There's no way in hell it will every appear on Wii.
Eh, I don't know about that. Ready At Dawn may be telling the truth - they won't port the game to PS2. But that doesn't mean a PS2 port won't happen in the future. GoW is an established PS2 franchise, with literally millions of fans. Most of whom don't own a PSP. This could easily be Sony pulling some strings behind the scenes, to get people like me, who are holding out on buying a PSP for this game, to budge. I call bullshit. :)
After my time with GoW:CoO R@D can do just about anything and I'll buy it. There is some crazy ass talent in that dev house!
RAD licenses their engine, which means that they own the technology used to make their games, which means that Sony would have to rewrite the whole game from scratch just to port it to PS2, which is a ridiculous proposition. On their web site RAD says "GoW on PS2 is NOT going to happen," that sounds pretty definitive to me. Again, Sony might own the franchise and the game, but they obviously don't own the code.
Its probably the wii
I mean, no offence but PS3/360 is kinda for the big boys/girls unless its PSN/Live
Resident Evil 5 Wii Version...please?
Wonder if R@D is the company that Sony is rumored to acquire? They would be a solid acquisition.
Even if it doesn't happen - Chains still isn't enough to get me to buy a PSP. I'd rather just replay GoW2 and wait for the PS3 incarnation.
They invested so much in their PSP engine, you would think they will make a couple more PSP games especially that they managed to make it look darn good.
Chains is awesome. Almost done with the hades challenge.
@jinpei05: waitwaitwaitwaitwait.
You were looking forward to playing a PSP to PS2 port on your HD TV and it NOT looking like crap?
Next you'll tell me your Wii outputs 2160P resolution, at 120 frames per second.
You know, most devs have HIGHER-RES versions of geometry and textures of the games that they create. I don't think Ready At Dawn is any exception.
For example, a 256 texture was originally created at 512x512 or even 1024x1024 as sources.
I don't see with a some dev time why they couldn't do it on the PS2.
