Stones all the way.
The Beatles. They weren't all that good, but at least they quit while they were ahead without embarrassing themselves.
Gotta go with the Beatles...sorry Stone fans.
Beatles, crack head.
i don't really care for either but i would have to say Beatles. because everyone after was apparently inspired by them. plus the Stones are too repetitive.
The Beatles.
Easily the Beatles, and yes, I AM the walrus.
The Beatles.
:)
Without all the histery of course.
Why must I choose?
They two bands rarely (if ever?) even overlapped in genre.
The Beatles, Mate..
Stones, their older songs have aged really well. I was just listening to some this morning while eating breakfast after watching after watching Yahtzee review of Devil May Cry. I had to listen to Sympathy for the Devil.
The Beatles. Mick Jaggers mouth is to big.
Both are incredible bands. The Stones have a certain rawness to them, while the Beatles (especially their earlier work) are extremely polished. I'd pit Revolver up against any other album as one of the greatest examples of pop music. I'm going to have to say the Beatles, just for the fact that they never wen disco.
Both amazing groups, but I have to go with The Beatles.
uh... beatles?
What are the rolling stones? some kind of inertia experiment?
Do I really need to answer this? One is the greatest band of all time and the other one had some hits but many misses.
Beatles. Come on, they essentially invited the concept album and ADT was invited for the Beatles. Stones have some good tracks, but overall Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts turns the Stones into Pebbles.
Meh, I'm for the Beatles. The Stones had maybe 3 good songs. If that. The Beatles had five that I liked. Though, I don't like either one much. Jagger doesn't do a thing for me, and I prefer Lennon and McCartney in their solo stuff.
Beatles. No Beatles=No Stones.
@baked ham: OK, I guess I didn't need to add the "if ever?" but I stand by the rarely. When I think of a Beatles song, the sounds that pop into my head are nothing like the sounds that pop in when I think of a Rolling Stones song.
@iamspoo:
My sentiments exactly.
Stones.
I like and respect the stones, but the Beatles reinvented pop and rock. You don't have to like them, but you'd be a fool to claim that they aren't the most influential band of all time. There simply is no debate. The body of work they released in only roughly 7 years is unmatched in its diversity and composition.
Beatles. The Stones are very hit 'n' miss for me.
The Beatles.
I never was much of a Stones fan but I do really enjoy a few of their songs such as Paint it Black.
The Ruttles
Man I would love to say the Stones but I can't. Have to go with the Beatles.
I'm a Beatles guy.
The Beatles... But the Stones have been hurt by not knowing when to quit. You kind of have to wonder what would have been if John was alive or Yoko never entered the picture. The mystique of the Beatles would have probably faded a little after their 12th reunion tour.
I agree with the notion that there isn't much overlap. Whereas am a big fan of the Stones' early work, not so much of their later stuff, I have enjoyed the Beatles' whole catalogue, start to finish.
So! my vote is for the Beatles.
Paint it black is an awesome song, but I would have to say The Beatles. The Revolver-album especially.
beatles
Rolling Stones. Beatles were/are pretentious bastards.@sxp151, the happy-headed nose: Uhm.. they died, they didn't 'quit'.
The only song I know from these two groups is Paint It Black, which I like a lot (almost my fav song in GHIII...).
So far, 21 votes for the Beatles, 3 for the Stones, and 1 for the Ruttles.
Spinal Tap! But yes I agree with the majority here, The Beatles made music to what it is today.
Both bands are very hit and miss imho, but personal tastes ... the stones. Not really a huge fan of either though...
Beatles...no contest.
Gotta be the Beatles...
The Beatles have much better songs.
Beatles ftw.
Beatles. Hands Down.
@MJDeviant:
I almost forgot about The Rutles.
+ Watch video
I like the fact that the comparison USED to be Beatles vs. Elvis... And now the Stones are in the mix. Why not go whole hog and ask Beatles vs. Nirvana?
Beatles. I do love the Stones, but I think they owe a lot of their early success to the Willie Dixons of the world, whereas the Beatles maybe jumped out of the originality gate a little earlier.
The Velvet Underground.
I'm going with The Rolling Stones too. The Beatles aren't in my era.
Bjork or 2 pac?
@bOOmStiCK83: so i have the beatles to blame for reggaeton? i change my vote.
Beatles. They pretty much invented modern music.
Well since one changed the face of music and the other didn't do nearly as much, you can guess where my vote is...
I don't really like the Beatles at all. I like Paint it Black a lot. Guess that means I go for the Stones.
The Stones. I won't deny the influence the Beatles had on music, but I would rather listen to the Stones than listen to the Beatles. But they're really two different musical styles, so it's hard to make a direct comparison.
@supercrap:
nod
Stones. Still around. Still jammin.
Beatles are depressing. Down to two. No new music. Stingy on iTunes release.
I prefer Rush (older stuff).
I'm going to take the invisible third option and say They Might Be Giants for the win.
Seriously. I just went to their most recent concert in Dallas, TX, and... Holy freakin' crap, BEST CONCERT EVAR, PERIOD! I'm entirely serious, and not exaggerating at all, too.
They played everything I wanted to hear... Birdhouse in your Soul, I'm Impressed, Clap Your Hands, Ana Ng, Withered Hope, and so many more... It was a spiritual experience. It always is.
The Rolling Stones. The Beatles' name means more than their actual music now.
Without the Beatles there would be no Radiohead....Beatles.
The Beatles. It may seem like a tough choice but i wouldnt have been the same without the Beatles in my life. The Stones are great but not in the same catagory as far as Im concerned.
This question should've been Beatles or Elvis.
Beatles 100%. I'm actually on a serious Beatles kick right now too, mostly White Album and Abbey Road, but really everything from 65 - 70. I can't get over how timeless these songs are - helter skelter could be released tomorrow and sell a million.
I grew up listening to both and I have to say that you'd be amazed at how many songs today come from something the Beatles created. I have to go with the Beatles.
The Stooges.
Without the Beatles there would be no Radiohead.....Beatles ftw.
Going with the Beatles on this one. Sure, they're not still around and one (or more) of them were a bit off their rocker but they've done more for modern music than the stones. I love the Rolling Stones too, but damn, when do we get an ACTUAL farewell tour? I swear to god we should just hook them all up to ventilating machines and let them pass quietly. (Damn you! You shot the wrong beatle you bastard!)
Stones.
Because women AND men like the Stones.
Pearl Jam.
I gotta give it to the Stones, but only because the Hell's Angels assassination of Mic Jagger failed.
The Beatles that were not assassinated have given us nothing except dull news about divorcing a one legged broad and 'I've Got My Mind Set On You.'
The Stones are still touring despite being older than God, Keith Richards played a pirate, and he, along with cockroaches would be the only living creature to survive global nuclear war.
Paint it black for the Stones.
@MJDeviant:
Definitely the Rutles. Sergeant Rutter's Only Darts Club Band is a millstone in musical history.
