Now that Insomniac has found success with both the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises, you might expect them to simply sequel the IP as long as the checks come in, staggering each title's two-year development cycle to release one game a year. But Insomniac's president Ted Price explained that such a schedule ping ponging Ratchet and Resistance wasn't the plan. Instead they intend to, "continue to produce new IP, there's no question about that."
So a new IP is coming from Insomniac in the semi far to far future? Sounds good to us.

Huzzah! Very interested to see what they will make.
Yeah new ip's are great, I think I'd rather have a Captain Quark game on PSN though.
I hope it's an RPG. I'd love to see where they can take the genre.
Bring it on, they have my $$$ on anything they care to develop.
I bet they could make a game about wishing on stars that I would simply fall in love with. One of the best developers out there in my opinion.
Yes!, Insomniac makes nothing but great games
Wow, count me interested. Sony's secret E3 game?
Can't wait to see the new Ratchet sequel this holiday season. Keep belchin' em' out guys!
That's refreshing. There are already way too many over-milked gaming franchises. It's much more exciting to me to see new games, instead of Halo 3, Super Duper Mario Universe and Resident Evil Regenerated-or-the-Umpteenth Time.
I am looking towards the next R&C installment as the last had an "Empire Strikes Back" sort of ending.
What's with the pic, I saw that and thought, "Wow! They are bringing back Blasto!?!?!"
best devs out there. this is good news.
Ratchet and Clank is pretty ace. They can crank out all they want to of that series and I'll get it.
As long as they don't throw Ratchet to the wolves like they did with poor Spyro!
Great news foe PS3 owners. Insomniac has really done a bang up job in learning the technology and using it to its potential. Far better than the 'high quality' developers like EA
Insomniac the number 1 console gaming company in my eyes.
I'm up for anything Insomniac can throw at me!
@Buttah: I agree with that statement wholeheartedly. Every genre they've touched has been great. Even a new platformer would be alright in my book.
I do hope they try something new though.
I like the idea of new. No more sequels damn't.
Can't wait! Been very happy with Ratchet & Clank on the PS2 and 3 as well as Resistance on the PS3. These guys make top quality games for sure.
@FrigidAir44: agreed. It's sad that more devs aren't taking the opportunity to walk the path of the new IP :(
Insomniac's had one of the best developer track records out there. I can only think that whatever they put out next will have the same pedigree of polish and entertainment that Resistance and Ratchet have had so far.
NEw IP: Resistance: Fall of Clank. Its gold!
From a recent LA Times profile of Insomniac (the article has mysteriously has disappeared from the LA Times site, so I had to resort to caches):
"When asked what's next, Brian Hastings, now chief creative officer, hinted at a new franchise for which Insomniac, and not Sony, would own the intellectual property."
Ratchet & Clank is not Insomniac's 09 title.
As long as they produce quality-top-notched titles, I'll continue to financially support their muffin purchasing habits!
More new IPS is great news I can't wait to see what new games they can make.
The most recent Ratchet and Clank was the best in the series so far, and not just because the graphics were great on the PS3 versus the PS2.
Best Playstation 3 developer by far, true pioneers of the system.
Still can't believe RandC didn't sell more.
I've only played one Insomniac game in my lifetime, and that was Ratchet and Clank (Didn't play it much due to getting headaches from it... argh!). I'm liking what I'm hearing though. Insomniac reminds me of Judd Apatow and gang for some odd reason.
I found Going Commando for 10$. Might give it a go, hopefully I don't have any problems.
@MaoChan:
That's captain quark...
Insomniac is great. They can make whatever and I will most likely buy it. They pump out Triple A games every year...you think it would set an example to other developers (1 Final Fantasy every 3 years, 1 Metal Gear Solid game every 2-3 years, Halo every 3 years). I don't see why other developers can't follow suit.
@Wolfers: Actully they didnt own spyro it was sierras property.
They only done the original trilogy, after that Sierra handed spyro to their own in house developer, which craped all over it.
@Richggs: Eurocom taking the largest metaphorical crap on poor Spyro.
As long as they keep making Ratchet and Clank games. Im playing through Tools of Destruction right now and after like 5 games, the shit still isnt old.
I havnt played Resistance yet except for the demo, but it seems great fun. This is one of my favorite developers. Everything they touch turns to gold
@Wolfers: Woah woah, I mis-spoke. Equinox/Check Six were responsible for Enter the Dragonfly.
This is great and all... but when are we going to get a sequel to Disrupter?
And I'm not joking. I seriously want a current-gen Disrupter title.
Somewhat out of context, but...
Insomniac
Naughty Dog
Sucker Punch
Don't they make the perfect trifecta for Sony? I haven't been dissapointed with them at all. Granted, Jak 2 & 3 were a bit on the annoying side due to it's difficulty, but they were good games overall.
Insomniac are an awesome developer. I'm glad they're not going to sit back on their laurels and simply churn out sequels. Original, exciting products can only help the gaming industry grow further.
I appove.
p.s. I am really looking forward to Resistance 2 though - LOL
@FIRST!!!: I'd switch Sucker Punch with Incognito.
Excellent, I hope they stop with Ratchet now, it's getting old. A new IP is very welcome from me.
Well since Insomniac has yet to really come out with a bad IP then I see this as a good thing lol. As long as they don't hang series like Ratchet or Resistance out to dry like they did with Spyro, which immediately went into the tank after they left it. Similar situation goes to Naughty Dog with Crash Bandicoot.
An RPG would be nice, with some of Insomniac's humor. lol love the two con-er- "robots" in Tools of Destruction.
Bring back Spyro!
I think Insomniac is going to take the lead to become Sony's premiere developer. That's great news!
@goldwings: Wow! Can you imagine an RPG from Insomniac. It could be potentially incredible and very easy on the eyes.
@sascha23: Exactly my friend. Hopefully they go along the lines of a "Kingdom Hearts" Style (Action RPG was it?) of style rather than turn based, but that's just me.
@njhardcoreguy: I like Warhawk and the Twisted Metal Franchise. But Sucker Punch with Sly Cooper and their new IP, InFamous, look more promising.
And all three of 'em have delivered really good games. You can't say that with Incognito. The Twisted Metal games got stale at some point. The only game I wish they bring back, is War of the Monsters.
@FIRST!!!:
war of the monsters was cool. on this current gen of hardware it would probably look and feel way better too.
the other IP i'd like to see too is Jet Moto... with better controls, and more fleshed out level design, and more of that burn-out type speed.. and i guess a total revamping, that series could be fucking SWEEEET.
as far as insomniac goes, however... i just hope they go more of the platforming side of things, rather than the FPS side of things, considering im a bigger fan of ratchet than i am of resistance.
i wonder if their 3rd IP will start with an "R" too.
Not surprised, they are awesome.
@FIRST!!!: Three of my favorites, without a doubt.
Insomniac and Naughty Dog are the only reasons that a PS3 purchase will happen sometime in my future.
@FIRST!!!: i love sucker punch. I never played Rocket:Robot on Wheels (is was it sprocket?) fo rthe N64, but i was the only person i knew who played Sly Cooper. And i enjoyed the hell out of those. It was probably my favorite platforming series on the PS2, even though i loved Ratchet and Clank as well.
But im really looking forward to Sucker Punches new game. I think it's odd that all 3 of them seem to make a more realistic PS3 game for their debut on the system
erm... excuse my ignorance but... What's IP?
phew...atleast there's no silly Miyamoto comment in this interview
@Gambare: Intellectual Property - it's the cold business way of referring to new characters, worlds and stories.
And of course no matter what they pump out, I'm sure I'll be buying. That's the power reputation of a developer such as Insomniac.
