The first expansion pack for Xbox Live Arcade original Undertow hits tomorrow. Path of the Elect includes a five-level single-player and co-op campaign, four new multiplayer maps and introduces a new playable race called the Elect.
The Elect is a "fanatical alien race" with superior technology and fire power. The pack will sell for 400 Microsoft points, aka about $5. Hit the jump for some screens from the new pack.

I did receive undertow for free. I'll throw down for the expansion. it will motivate me to finally get 10,000 kills.
I got Undertow for free but really didnt like it. I dunno if theres something I'm just not getting but I got bored off my arse pretty quickly and havnt played it again since.
I still need to play the free full version I downloaded...
An expansion pack for a game nobody really cares about.
Well.. ok.. mostly only I didn't care about. Worst... free game.. EVAR
I need to try this game out. I downloaded it free after the Xbox Live issues over the holidays, but I've heard it's pretty mediocre at best.
And you thought they gave away Undertow for free as a gracious apology for the Live problems.. No no! Its because there werent any owners of the game to download the expansion apparently already in development at the time. Now thousands of people will buy the expansion based soley on the fact that they never had to pay for the original anyway, so they might as well upgrade it for a couple bucks.
I think it's a pretty underrated game and new content is always cool.
By the way, 400 MS points are exactly $5. The conversion works out to 80 = $1
But since you have to buy points in groups of 500 ($6.25), it's all bull anyway.
Seems like a great way for MS to pay back the company for giving the damn game away. I hope they at least waived the publishing fee...
@MrBionic: You didn't play Yaris, did you?
Not to be a downer but in all honesty I wouldn't download this if they were offering it for free again, I just deleted the full game from my hard drive after getting my free copy from MS because well, it kinda sucked.
It all makes sense now.
MS: Hey Chair Development (Undertow developer), can we give your game away for free?
CD: Um, no. It didn't sell well in the first place.
MS: Well, if you gave the game away you could ADD an expansion pack and then more people would have the OPTION to buy the pack for 400 points rather than the game for 800.
CD: Do you think we'll make it on the top 10 most played games of the week?
MS: Let's not get crazy now.
Heh, yeah it become more clear why they gave it away... ;)
@Erwin: Not only of its horrible quality. I haven't been able to unlock a single achievement :/
Reminds me of Gunstar Heros.
I felt like there was a solid idea there, but for some reason I could never really tell what was going on. Maybe it's because I'm terrible at the multiplayer and can never tell what's going on.
Ah, so here's why they gave it away for free.
even for free this game sucks.
@Lemming To The Sea: same here m8.
a shame people didn't like this one. I bought it back when it first came out, one of the better XBLA games I've played. And THEN I got reimbursed for my purchase from the holiday lag.
This wasn't some crappy game tossed out to make some cash, you can tell when playing it that a lot of love went into making it.
It makes me feel like i'm 11 years old playing with toy boats in the bathtub, just good old fun.
@Fyren: I was lucky enough to get ONE achievement in Yaris. I took my five points and happily never played it again. So tell me MS: Why the hell is crap like that on marketplace but distilled awesome like Dishwasher isn't out yet?
underwhelming game IMO, so I'll pass
Undertow isn't bad for what it is but it in no way warrents a $5 expansion pack, imo. MS is really pushing it with their DLC pricing scheme.
Boring game.
Man... Lots of Undertow hate going on in here...
I bought Undertow day one and have enjoyed it very much despite not spending a ton of time with it. will definitely take a look at the X-pack.
Oh, any word on if they add new achievements Crecente?
I think that the game looks OK, but you've got a severe mismatch of style (2D arena shooter) and gameplay mechanics (better suited to a FPS style game) that result in an end product that just isn't all that entertaining.
@Erwin: Oh.. oops. I stand corrected.
what is wrong with you people? Is it really that crazy for a game developer to try to make money off of their game? Or, is it beyond your understanding that it costs a lot of money to make a game like Undertow? You have people complaining about MS for the game gave for FREE and others complaining the developer is charging for an expansion pack.
I'm buying two copies - just to make up for the harrassment these companies have to put up with from these boards!
Did they use a Yak Back to record the voices and sound effects for this game?
@Korbei: Bingo! I was thinking the same thing. Really makes the whole "free game as an apology" seem kind of dirty now...
@The Cat With Two Heads: Whooo! Big nostalgia trip there. Head spinning so fast...
@GamerStuff:
Great for you then to be $10 poorer just to teach us a lesson, I think you may have to buy more copies since it takes a while for me to learn.
@GamerStuff: Based on that logic you must own 15 PS3's.
Its an amazing game, but there are far better shooters out there. Sorry.
This just pisses me off because it reminds me of the time I got to endure the Xbox Live outage but then had my 360 in for repairs while Undertow was free to download. An unfortunate sequence of events, because the game looks cool.
Meh. I got sick of it after I finished the first campaign. Even the multiplayer bores me to tears.
Ahh, so there is a reason that MS gave this specific game away for free. It's much easier to sell an expansion pack for a game thats not selling if people have it downloaded
@Korbei:
Yea that was my initial reaction. Also my lasting reaction.
$5? No thanks. I'd be happier WITH the money.
Undertow is decent when you're board. Not so much when you have other options.
If more people played online it will be alright, but there's only about 4 on at any given time. And that's not an exaggeration.
I had a lot of fun with Undertow. I will probably get this eventually.
I have 200/200....so Ill be saving my 400 points for the Mass Effect DLC.
I'll just wait till there's more Live problems and MS give this away for free.
@Korbei: @DaiMacculate:
QFT...
How annoyingly Microsoft-like of Microsoft...
Good god, you guys are mean. I've had a blast with the thing. Not sure if I'm getting the expansion, but it's still a fun game.
Why so much hate for this game? I had no idea there were so many negative people around here.
The game is no Mona Lisa, but it's fun and has some good multiplayer going for it, especially co-op.
Seriously you guys, it was free.
@Ken Hikari:
There was nothing but love for the game until Microsoft decided to chuck it at people for free. I guess when MS devalued the game, the opinions of gamers dropped with the price?
Anyway, the game is fun for a freebie, but there's no chance in hell I'm plonking down cash on the expansion. Hell, this is the same price as the Mass Effect DLC.
"superior technology and fire power"
Will this new race be more powerful than the others?
Does this mean the game will no longer be balanced?
I hope they didn't ruin the game.
Honestly, I don't car about Undertow, I mean yeah I played it. But GIVE ME ADVENT RISING 2!!!!

Undertow for free was a rip-off, why would I pay for an expansion?
